Overview
Valhalla Game Studios is a development house located in Tokyo, Japan that was founded by ex- Tecmo employee Tomonobu Itagaki and a number of fellow ex- Team Ninja staff members on February 16, 2010. The company was initially organized as a start-up following Itagaki's heated departure from Tecmo. Prior to the announcement of the company's official name, Valhalla Game Studios was publicly known by the temporary, similarly Norse-themed name "Tokyo Viking."
Current Projects
Itagaki and the other employees of VGS are currently working on their first project, Devil's Third. The game was initially planned to be published by THQ on the Xbox 360 and PS3. However, on May 15, 2012, THQ announced during a investor's call that they were dropping the game as publisher due to financial difficulties. THQ was eventually declared bankrupt and its remaining assets were liquidated in early 2013.
After reclaiming the full rights to Devil's Third, Valhalla Game Studios was approached by Nintendo, and a new agreement was struck. Nintendo will serve as the publisher of Devil's Third, which is now a Wii U exclusive.
