"Now with more shit most people can't do!!!"

Seriously, the games a lot of fun for those people way into the timing stuff, but as for the rest of us this is just more stuff that just makes the game even more impenetrable. SF4 had so much potential to bring the fighting game franchise back in a way that made it accessible to a broader audience but they chose to go after the Pro crowd, and I can't fault them for that. I just wish Capcom Fighting games weren't becoming so impenetrable.

SFIV is impenetrable to you?! wow, then fighting games just aren't on your thing then. At a low level the game is accessible as hell.

Agreed, with the exception of charge characters.

I got WAY WAY into the fighting scene when MK came out, but completely lost interest in the fighting game scene after Evo. They really build it up to feel like nothing else matters other than Evo. I'll be there again for Evo, but I don't care about the middling tournies at all.

Hooray! Capcom has successfully made Street Fighter irrelevant once again! Just like when Street Fighter 3 came out! The series has come full circle...again.

I look forward to the reboot that Street Fighter V will inevitably have to be to get people back onboard. Then the 3 versions of SFV afterward that cater exclusively to the hardcore fans, and add in content that should've been in there in the first place!

Glad to see Capcom learns things!

A rebalancing patch has made Street Fighter irrelevant? What?

@projectino: Not really, not when compared to games like Mortal Kombat or Soul Calibur. Street Fighter is more welcoming now than it ever was, but it still puts up a lot resistance to people just starting out.

Even though I haven't played any fighting games in my life, before AE came out, I'm now hooked.

Props to Capcom for making this awesome video and the game!

As a Yuri player, comboing into that Ultra looks pretty exciting, because it seems easy to pull off and I'm not all that great. Maybe I'll play this some more when this patch is out. Bought the AE update for SSF4 but only played it like twice. Don't care for Yun/Yang or the evil dudes at all.

Yuri?

It was late and I was tired, leave me alone okay :(

Dude, I'm a mediocre player (and by that I mean that I get stomped any time I try to play online) and I still get what those balance changes mean. You really don't have to be THAT into fighting games to get what they're talking about.

That would require people to use some thought when it comes to fighting games.

Well, this site's quite good as far as non-fighting-game-specialized sites go. Not that I really visit any of those. In any case I think that might be Jeff's influence (and to a lesser degree Brad's and Vinny's).

Execution isn't really the be all and end all of fighting game skill, you can't just expect player skill to be based on the amount of combos they can reliably pull off, it's much deeper than that. This is the most accesible Street Fighter yet, they definitely aren't becoming MORE diffcult to play, that would make no sense.

Some moves have active frames where if attacked at the same time, the attack will go straight through. More invincibility means they have more active frames where it is impossible to be hit.

This trailer makes me sad, sfiv was once my favourite game of this gen, I stepped away for a year and now have no idea what is going on or how to play properly, I doubt I will ever have enough time to re-learn.

Execution is the main stumbling block for anyone who wants to get good at the game though. Fundamental techniques take hours of practice to etch into your muscle memory before you can even begin to worry about the deeper shit like when to try a particular technique.

SFII 1st edition was the most accessible because it was slow, didn't have many characters and you weren't expected to string together a bunch of stick motions and button presses in a second to maximise your damage. Not saying it was the best, just the easiest to get into.

Given all the Capcom apologists I keep seeing around I'm surprised "demands being answered" meant a free update.

Ah well, I already got burned by buying IV then Super, so I'll just wait until SSFIV AE2012 Turbo.

jaytee00 get's what I Was talking about (I think). Basically as this game get's faster and the amount of junk they want to you to do in fractions of a second get's more insane the game get's more impenatrable to anyone who hasn't been doing these games for a long time, or wants to sit in the trainer and read websites on how to actually do the focus cancels and then practice it forever. Older games didn't have as much twitch gameplay and that's what made them a bit more inviting. Granted the games do need to evolve but I just feel that the level most capcom games are at right now they are rather off-putting unless you have a solid group of friends locally that are at the same level as you. Going online is a nightmare as even at the lowest level you tend to run into people way too often that can pull off all the crazy stuff and leaves a bad taste in the mouths of people that just don't get it. When the Fighting game genera was going from the beginning to the more competative scene I did notice that arcades that held SF games went from having a lot of people trying it out, to a handfull of people hogging the game, and that's kind of what the online experience feels like now. I like the new characters, I like most of the combo's, but it's that extra level they stuck into this generation of games that make them just a step too far to really get into for people at the entry level in my opinion.

Demands being answered meant mostly making Yun and Yang relatively less better than everyone in the cast as their damage output, frame stats, combo capabilities and other aspects made their playstyle in regular Arcade Edition too effective. Price was never a priority 1 because it was irrelevant. Everyone voiced their opinion in various community sites and arcade location tests on what characters had to be improved.

It was all about having serious players up to date as soon as possible with Ver. 2012. Japan just got Ver. 2012 in the arcades this week and the rest of the world barely have arcades. With that, the console version is the next best thing for everyone who needs to practice before going to a tournament at their city or even at Vegas for Evolution. Pricing an update that's all stat changes is pretty dumb for any publisher to do.

True dat. As Capcom's shown you gotta add in a few broken characters to be able to charge for it. :p

Street Fighter is irrelevant?

Yes it is, if you ignore these facts: It's now watched by many people and enjoyed as an e-sport, and IV (even just standard IV) has sold way more than Street Fighter III could ever have dreamt to.

tldr: you're an incoherent idiot, but hey I guess you wanted to try and look smart and/or try and put down Capcom for some reason.

I don't want to buy AE, but there's like literally 20 people left playing vanilla Super, and they all got so tired of beating me that by the end I was getting kicked from lobbies.

I bought SSFIV when it came out, played four offline matches in the Easy story mode, and got stuck getting my ass whipped by the AI. Then I realized that of course I had made a horrible mistake in my $40 purchase because fighting games aren't made for humans with human reflexes and a human memory capacity. Haven't played since.
