So they're going to hold back the SA2 battle content for extra money like they did with the SADX stuff for Sonic Adventure's re-release.

Fuck you in the ass, Sega.

So is the licensed music from Jet Grind Radio going to be cut? The Hideki Naganuma stuff is still good but it'd be cool to have all the licensed stuff in as well.

Sega put out a press release about a month or two ago saying they secured the rights to all of Jet Set Radio's music but like, one or two songs, and there's murmurs that the reason it missed its original June launch is because they went ahead and figured out a way to get those last two songs.

I've had good memories of these games when i first played them. However, JSR was a really short game if I remember correctly, I only wanted to race Chaos in SA2, and I think it is best to leave Nights into my dreams. If they made JSRF a downloadable title, I think i'd be game for that. That or just megamix the two games together.

I can't speak for JSR or Nights, but I remember liking SA2 back when I was younger. Though as bad as those treasure hunting levels were, I WILL say this in that segment's defense, you could beat up and break omichoas in those parts. There, I just gave you all the one decent thing about the treasure hunting levels. Oh and about Sega and Total War:

yeah but thats not really sega. Creative assembly gets the creds for that.

Its still published by Sega, so they deserve some credit for releasing it. And why do you think Sega has Total War as one of their 4 major IP's that they're focusing on? Sega knows that Total War is one of their few successful franchises left in them and they're still going to publish those games as long as CA is with them.

SEGA shouldnt be hated for re-relasesing these games as they make sense for newer games to re-release. now saying sega hasnt released any full games of note in the last year or so...yea i have no defense for that. Theyre just a different company now with different goals i guess

JSRF is pretty awesome, NiGHTS is okay, and SA2 is pretty bad. Oh well. It's too bad, since I had some good memories of SA1-2 when they came out, but returning to them now, they're pretty mediocre overall and the the non-speed levels in SA2 are very, very bad. Like those Tails/Eggman Walker levels? What the fuck were they thinking?

SEGA should just make a new Chao Garden game for PSN/Steam/XBLA and be done with it.

Soooo stoked for Nights.... up there as one of my favourite games of all time... a much misunderstood game - Most people completely missed the point that it was a side scrolling racing game, all about getting the best line through the course and doing as many laps as possible (and getting back to the pits) before the timer hit zero... such a buzz

I ADORED Sonic Adventure 2 Battle when it came out - I still can't believe that Sonic the Hedgehog ended up on Gamecube before Mario. Man; mind blowing. I'm relatively sure the game isn't technically any good though - those Sonic Adventure games have terrible engines. So many collision problems and camera issues. Sonic Team just built games badly, all the way up until Sonic 2006. Still SA2 is a fun, good-looking game in spite of technical problems... at least 2/3 of it. The Sonic/Shadow stages were always pretty good (although, compared to modern Sonic games like Generations, I'm certain they're not nearly as compelling), but also the Tails/Robotnik levels with the mechs and the Panzer Dragoon style lock-on mechanic. Good stuff. Dumb, simple... but fun. I'll probably pick it up again.

As for Jet Set, I'll buy it... but meh. I'd rather see a complete HD remake that combined Jet Set and Jet Set Future's content into one game. This first game innovated and did it first, but Future refined the formula so much it's hard to go back. For one thing, they got rid of that stupid stage timer. Like in Tony Hawk, when they added the manual and revert? It's why the HD Tony Hawk remake that came out recently added in the manual and included stages from Tony Hawk 2. Because I want to see Jet Set Radio Future HD, and a Jet Set 3, I'll support this.

And NiGHTS? Never played it. Played Journey of Dreams though, and enjoyed it despite a serious design flaw (the casing for the analog sticks on the Wii Controllers have those notches at 45 degrees, but the rings in the stages are not oriented at 45 degrees, so you're constantly correcting for it. It hurts your fingers). It was pretty, it was simple and fun, it sounded great, and it was different. Have been wanting to play the original for quite some time now... I almost bought a Saturn from a roommate in college to do so. I'm DEFINITELY picking this up on Steam.

Sega needs to make NEW games like this. Flashy, colorful, fun, easy to pick up and play - take that arcadey way of thinking and apply it to new digital games, Sega. I'm hoping Hell Yeah is the first game of that type from "The New Sega". The one who's focusing on digital games.

@ArbitraryWater: I'm with you on that. It's silly how people give Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 free rides while savaging every other 3D Sonic to come afterwards. They all had the same crappy cameras, controls and stupid friends. Were people just more forgiving in 1999-2001?

NiGHTS' draw distance still seems pretty crap, but let's see when it comes out. I wonder how this version was made, using some kind of special-cased emulation, or using the original source code with a compatibility layer?

NiGHTS is specifically designed to have a low draw distance - or at least, The Saturn version is. There was a fan out there trying to reverse engineer NiGHTS on PC four or five years ago and he showed what levels looked like with the draw distance cranked all the way up and it looked like cluttered, unintelligible nonsense. NiGHTS needs a low draw distance in order to look "correct", and it's not like the game is overly reliant on what you can see on the horizon.

My understanding is the version they're porting to XBLA is a port of the Japan-only Playstation 2 remake released in 2007. That version was not a port (since porting Saturn games is apparently really difficult), but a literal from-the-ground-up remake. As such, the controls in the PS2 version aren't quite right, among other things. They probably won't fix it for the XBLA release, either.

@msavo: I sometimes go back to SA2 to blast through some Sonic or Shadow levels. Some people find the controls and camera clunky, but once you master them you can really blast through levels.

Also, while it is a remix, I feel my current jam is appropriate.

Rolling around at the speed of sound,

Got places to go, gotta FOLLOW MY RAINBOW!

Must keep on movin' ahead,

No time for guessin', follow my path instead!

Trust in me no matter what you may see,

Take my lead, I'll set you free,

Follow me, set me free,

Trust me and we will escape from the city,

I'll make it through, follow,

Follow me, set me free,

Trust me and we will escape from the city,

I'll make it through from HERE TO YOOOOOOU

FOLLOW ME! OH, YEAH-HEAH!

Got enemies lurking around every turn,

Trust in your feelings, got to LIVE AND LEARN!

No time for messin', only one way through,

Got no other option, only one thing to do!

(Developer commentary seems interesting, but the only game I really care to play is JSR. I might get the others as I've never played Nights and SA2 is one of my more nostalgic titles. Pricing will be a major factor.)

Okay yeah, some of you did. But still you guys. Jet Set Radio and Sonic on Steam? We live in times that the 9 year old, little Game-Gear toting version of me would never believe.

SEGA have been releasing lots of ports and emulated versions of their old games on Steam: SEGA Genesis Collection 5 as well as Crazy Taxi and a bunch of Sonic games. Probably the same stuff they pumped out on PSN and Xbox Live a couple of years ago.

Well, these re-releases only cost 10 bucks each. If this was released as a collection I could see it costing something like 30 or 40 bucks if they'd put 4 games in, so this doesn't seem like a rip-off to me.

Word. The original Sonic Adventure was never good in my opinion but 2 was mind blowing. I mean it's the one Sonic game where I actually like playing as people other then Sonic. Also it has some of the best music in the series.
