"A gift to the fans..." that they have to pay $50-60 for. Cute.
$40, actually. Still not exactly a gift, but for a well realized nostalgia piece, not a bad deal.

@YukoAsho: Almost every Xbox game that features multiplayer supports system link.

Edited by Sooty

Not sure if it's the game or the video but the framerate seems awful.

If running the old engine alongside this is contributing to it then that is a retarded decision. Who the hell is going to play it with the old graphics. Really?

Yeah, this video is a little weirdly converted, watch the Gametrailers one instead.

But now onto it...Holy cow...I mean I play Halo 1 still regularly so I know how it looks like, but just the update graphics...Maaaaaaaan.

If I can't climb on top of this map I'm not buying it.

Posted by JJpenguin

I like it, it's not selling itself as anything other than fan service of a modern classic. the amount of times i've thought of going back to Halo:CE has been huge and i'll hold out till this comes out.

People that are complaining over stupid things or just whatever, who cares. This is a chance to relive Halo with buddies over xbox live. Buy it or don't. You know what it is, you know how its gonna be, and we all know how disappointed we are with the multiplayer aspect (that being Halo Reach multiplayer with classic Halo maps...). Go complain about your framerate elsewhere. Go drag out the old xbox with Halo and compare that framerate. At least it is not 60 bucks.

I don't know about you, but I love Reach's multiplayer. Not sure if you're saying that you wish that it had the classic MP, and if so I do kind of wish they'd include it. I don't care that much though, because if anyone wants to play Halo: CE multiplayer, there is Halo PC.

I wonder if this will play like the original?

I doubt it will play like that specific one, but it's nearly impossible to tell because all of the Halo games are so different from one another.
Microsoft stated when this was announced that this will play basically identically to Halo 1. It's literally all the old Halo 1 code with a new graphics engine laid on top of it. All the physics, all the controls, and apparently even all the level designs - everything about it is 1:1 with the original Halo 1.
I was joking, yo.

Never been a big fan of the Halo series, but what they were able to do with the tech for this game, is pretty damn awesome...

@Enigma777: Because of the visuals? Come on man. I bet you (just like me) have gone through the original Halo several times. How has this game become a must purchase when you most likely already have the first game? Save your $40 and buy something worth buying this holiday season. There's a ton of amazing games coming out and they shouldn't be wasted on picking up a pricey remake.
Posted by Tebbit

Not to be a big poopy pants, but this really underlines how little Halo has evolved.

It looks fantastic! Don't get me wrong. But without the context of history, this is a single-player Halo Reach map pack, with modified weapon attributes.

Posted by Hector

I rather play it with the old school graphics.

@Forkstik MultiPlayer is just Halo Reach
Edited by GrandMarshal

at the start this level lags just like the orginal, i dont know if thats a good or bad thing xD

Posted by Enigma777

@infestedandy:

Actually I don't own the original and I never did. I never had an Xbox so the only time I played it was at my friend's house.

Man, this is some good trolling.

Edited by EchoEcho

Time to drive, punch, grenade, and otherwise force my Warthog into places it was never supposed to go... now in beautiful, current-gen graphics!

Edit:
@infestedandy: You don't think maybe it's possible that playing through Halo: CE again with updated visuals and online co-op is worth $40 to some people? I don't think anyone's getting "suckered" here; everyone has the same information. Some just think this game is worth the money and others don't. It's a matter of opinion, nothing more or less.

360?  I don't remember that many 360 system-link games.  PD Zero maybe?

There are two games I want in the remainder of the year. That's because that's all I'm interested in playing, not because I'm tight for cash. I don't need to save my $40, and I do want to play this game.

Good memories. I'm picking this up for sure, can't wait to play some Hang Em High.

Posted by InfamousBIG

Well I mean it looks awesome, and as someone who hasn't played a Halo game since Halo 2, it brings back some good ass memories. But do I really want to spend 40 bucks on a old-ass game, that hasn't changed any since I played it the first time except graphics? No. 10 bucks, 15 bucks? Absolutely! These guys must be high off their ass with that asking price.

Which is unfortunate, since the interior level design in both Halo 1 and 2 sucked with all the identical rooms. I got lost quite often.

Yep, the 360. The option usually isn't blatant, but it's there. I played Reach, Halo 3, ODST and Halo Wars over system link quite regularly. I know both Saints Row games support it too and a lot of XBLA games. Again, pretty much any multiplayer game supports it.

I'm looking forward to this so much....

Assault on the Control Room is the level I'm dying to play the most. Me and my brother played that level countless times when we were younger and it's in essence, a level that defines what Halo is.

And anyone asking about seeing Blood Gulch in this... you won't see in this package essentially as it was in Halo:CE... all the multiplayer will be through Halo:Reach and 343 think that ForgeWorld's take on Blood Gulch is a pretty close representation of it.

Posted by andrewf87462

The original Halo is the sole reason I bought an Xbox. 10 years later and 1000's of hours of gaming later, i'm still playing an Xbox (....360). Really can't wait to get this, it's looking awesome! Definitely liking the button that swaps between the new graphics engine and the old one, and also the ability to jump in and out of Co Op games over Live.

Halo 2, 3 and Reach remakes are in line to be made too, right?

Posted by loopy_101

I'm worried about this one. If it uses the same code then that means we're going to have the same crappy team ai and the assault rifle will still be the most useless gun in the game. It looks beautiful but it needs to be updated, and not just visually, alot of the improvements made to Halo Reach and Halo 3 were really beneficial to how the game played. Besides, I WANT to use a spartan laser during the campaign - the new guns need to be added.

To everyone asking about a Halo 2 remake, why would you want that?

Water tech has come a long way.

This isn't Halo. This is Avatar with evil aliens and a super soldier.

they say it's for tjhe fans, like me . but the fans still have combat evolved and still play it every now and then . at least i do .....
so  what is the enticement for fans like me ? the graphical update is cool and all but get's old in about 5 minute's . i do hope 343 does have ton's of other stuff to please us fans !
but no matter how it turns out , i will get the game anyway !

They weakened the pistol, didn't they? THOSE JERKS.

Posted by TheHBK

Wow that switching is really impressive.  But I have to say the Halo 3 and Reach engines were just not that impressive.  A lot jaggies it seemed to me and just didnt seem to have the clean feel to it that other games have.  Just weird.  I mean, when Halo on the xbox came out, it was big, had large environments and looked better than anything else on the system while still being that big.  Halo 2 kinda didnt have those big environments and to me didn't look much better.  Halo 3 disappointed and seemed like a cleaner version of Halo 2, Halo Reach was better but didnt feel like it was the best looking game on the system. Halo 1 made me expect that.  Anyway, point being, I think they could have waited for more power or just done a better job with the Reach engine to do this remake with.

Posted by maddesthatter985

why is the frame rate so bad

Because Halo 2 was one of the most heavily-played games on the original Xbox?  Granted, I doubt MS would go through the effort to fully re-create Halo 2's multiplayer suite, but even re-creating the original single player (which, BTW, isn't available on Games on Demand) would be cool.@WinterSnowblind said:

Wow, I applaud your experimentation.  I'd never go through the effort of trying something that wasn't even mentioned in the instructions.  Bravo, says I.

That classic mode feature is a fantastic idea, surely this isn't the first time that's been done?

Posted by Colonel_Fury

Watching this just reminds of how epic playing Halo, particularly Silent Cartographer was 10 years ago. That is one of the best video game levels ever.

Posted by sungahymn

I think that the graphics overhaul doesn't look all that great but in comparison with the original...Man.

That is some lovely water. Also this is honestly I'm really looking forward to this one. Anything that preserves my nostalgia and keeps it kicking in the current generation is ace in my book.

I've already said it on several occasions to comment on that gameplay footage: I think I just came a little.

Funny, how when they started yelling "Oh what is going on?!?", the video timed out and went to the next.
