Dante Steps Into the Demon World

I like Old DMC. And I am also interested in this one. That is all.

This is actually starting to look pretty good. New Dante has grown on me and I like the new interpretation of the DMC universe.

I just really keep getting the feeling it's going to be a prequel. I'm not up and up on the lore if anything was given in that trailer to signify this definitely past the prior games but to me both Virgil and Dante both look like young versions/sound like it too. Both Dante and Vergil seem like they're at the point where about to fight something and maybe this is when Vergil sides differently and Dante the opposite.

Really liking the characterization and tension.

Spoilers, Vergil is a double-agent of sorts; his objective isn't really to "destroy" the demons but to subjugate them and harness their power. This manifests in a moment of crisis; Dante is helpless and in dire peril and Vergil is his only hope, if it were not for the fact that Vergil's objective is the other way. Vergil attempts to convince Dante to embrace his "path of the demon" in exchange for his help but, disgusted by the demons he is harried by constantly, Dante refuses, prizing his "humanity." This close to the end of the game and causes an irreparable rift between Dante and Vergil that fuels a rivalry that will span DMC3 and 1.

Someone once accused me of writing "videogame-ass videogame" story predictions. It's not my fault Cliche is Cliche because it's fun to watch (if predictable).

Waaaaaaaait, wait, wait, you're telling me the narrative and characterization is in the GAME??? NOT across several volumes of extraneous manga and several episodes of anime?!?! This really IS a totally new Devil May Cry!

This seems more like the cliff notes for the entire plot than a trailer.

I really hope Virgil is played by Sam Witwer, It sounds like him.

It's a good thing this perverted crap is coming out early in the year. It should give Capcom enough time to make DMC 5 with a proper Dante and Virgil for the next generation of consoles and clean up the bad taste this game leaves from its poor sales. Plus it marks a month left until revengeance is released by P*.

Oh, and I'm just as interested as I ever was for this game. Which is to say, very.

I heart me some ninja theory. They do good things. Hope this turns out for them.

I don't mind this new direction at all.

Well, got to say, I'm more interested in DMC than I've ever been.

I'm now more interested in this DMC game than I've been with any of the past DMC games.

All will be forgiven if there are more lines like, "You got a jacked-up notion of fair play pal, and it's beginning to piss me off."

You take any game that has a very distinct feel and completely overhaul it to the point where it's barely identifiable and see how any community takes it. No lock on, two dodge buttons, stance options, a dedicated launcher button, new slightly weird floaty enemy juggle physics, ridiculously simplified, horribly long aerial combos along with a lot of animations (Especially Rain Storm and the new Eryx gauntlets) that are ugly as sin and cumbersome and a major tone shift that tries to be edgy but just comes off throwing expletives recklessly for it.

You may as well take Unreal Tournament and make it into a Call of Duty game for how much of a gameplay departure it's taking.

Just curious - how do you know this DmC reboot's combat is going to be so cumbersome and simplified? Have you actually played it? And I remember staying in the air a whole lot in DMC 3 and 4.

I do understand you concern, but to say it "is" rather than it "looks like it may be" means that you've already condemned a game that very few people have actually played. Shouldn't you give it a good chance first? At least make sure your suspicions are correct before announcing them as truth?

@featurepreacher: I don't think you understand why Capcom handed this off. DMC was tanking after 3. Essentially the only love Dante was getting was from the hardcore fans and like alot of their franchises that wasn't enough to keep them afloat. Let them try something new and hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised. And I'm sure when those combo video dudes get their hands on it it'll make you feel right at home. Besides, it can't be any worse than 4 where you hardly even played as Dante>.>

Looks like this game will be starring Tony Redgrave and Gilver, hmmm.

Dante looks very realistic. Virgil doesn't quite match that quality; he's got some uncanny valley thing going on. His eyes are too sparkly, or something. He kind of creeps me out. Good thing he's a half demon; this freaky-factor actually works in his favor ;)

DmC looks more awesome every time they show it! Every. Time. Cannot wait.

The sole reason I plan on buying this is because of Ninja Theory. Game looks interesting.

Augh. It saddens me to see what's become of Devil May Cry.

Devil May Cry 3 is one of my favorite games, so I’m kind of cold towards this reboot and the re-imagination of its characters.

Still looks cool. I'll give it a spin if it gets a PC .. port.
