Please don't suck! This was the game that made me want to support that game jam they did. Been dying for someone to do a space station management sim game justice.

I love management sims so much. It's been ages since a solid entry in the genre, so I'll be keeping a close eye on this.

nice, congrats to the dude that pitched this game, this one probably had the most potential out of all the games from that jam but it wasn't my favorite concept. I did enjoy seeing them all be made though!

I love Double Fine, and I most of their games mostly because I want to see them make more games (I haven't really finished nor like them all) but man, aren't they supposed to be a small studio ? How many games are they currently developing at this point ? Three ? I know it's small games, but still.

I hope these Double Fine games are good. Honestly, I feel like most of their work has been overrated.

This looks similar to some kickstarted space game that came out a bunch of months back (I forget what it was, but it was quicklooked), but this looks a whole lot more polished already. Count me in for more DoubleFine goodness.

Hey Double Fine, why don't you ship a game before you start announcing more? I'm all for more games, but if Double Fine Adventure comes out and is shitty, that will probably kill any enthusiasm for your other projects.

Isometric!

Even though its not that expensive to buy your way into the alpha, I'm still not impressed with this early access trend. I found buying a game that is still broken and incomplete either ruins my expectations for the game, or if it doesn't have enough content to keep me interested, I am bored even before the final is released.

The only way it is worth it is if I know we are getting it cheaper than the final price, and it's a game I'm pretty sure I might want anyway.

Hey anonymous person on the internet that doesn't pay attention to other games. Double Fine informed that it didn't require it's entire team to work on "Broken Age" which is the title of the game you think is going to be shitty. Which is why it is working on other games. That's like saying "Hey Apple, release one iPhone before releasing a new iPad,iPod Touch, and iPod." Kid's these days.

I think pretty much since Brutal Legend they've been a multi-game developer, there was Happy Action Theater, Stacking, Once Upon A Monster, Iron Brigade, Trenched ;), and then some people making The Cave while Kinect Party and Middle Manager of Justice was being made then the DFA rolled along too and Massive Chalice.

Problem is that Apple actually ships products, Doublefine have yet to ship Broken Age let alone Massive Chalice and are now crowd funding a THIRD game.

This was one of the game jam projects that felt the most compelling and I'm glad to see it being turned into a full game. This is certainly a game that can just grow and grow through development like we've seen with Prison Architect.

No the right comparison would be if Apple announced a new iPhone, iPad, and iPod all within a few months of each other and without releasing any of them.

And he never said he thought it was gonna suck, he said IF it sucks.

@j12088: But Stacking was awesome, if maybe a bit reading intensive. Double Fine always puts an extra level of care into atmosphere and characterization, and Stacking is the epitome of this ethos--plus Stacking comes stuffed with a huge number of diabolical, Tim-Shaferrific puzzles. The world may seem a little inert at first, but the further you travel and the deeper you climb into the game's countless puzzles (and puzzles-within-puzzles), the better you start to see it for the big brilliant thing it is. Really, seriously, a great and under-appreciated game. Double Fine still knows what they're doing, even if they're constantly, incessantly taking absurd creative risks.

this game will technically come out first though. It may not have as many features as it will as when it gets out of alpha or beta or whatever, but it's still a thing you get. I'd (and many others would too) agree if it were a kickstarter but eh.

and I don't know, the massive chalice team is like 10 people iirc.

Hey Double Fine, why don't you ship a game before you start announcing more? I'm all for more games, but if Double Fine Adventure comes out and is shitty, that will probably kill any enthusiasm for your other projects.

Double Fine has 65 employees. About a dozen work permanently on Broken Age. It just makes sense to have the other employees working on something else.

And that has always been how Double Fine made games since after they release Brutal Legend. They worked on several titles at the same time:

Costume Quest, Stacking, Iron Brigade, Sesame Street, Happy Action Theater. That's 5 games being developed at the same time.

Only that now, people like you complain about their announcements. The difference between now and then is that they didn't announce those games until they were almost ready to come out. Since their Kickstarter campaign for Broken Age, they adopted a more transparent stance on their game development process and started sharing way more information and way more ahead of the release date. Which I find very refreshing and very informative if you have any interest in any aspects of game making process.

For example, this SpaceBase game was part of their Humble Bundle Amnesia Fortnight package. More than a dozen prototype games were pitched to the Humble Bundle buyers. Those buyers got to vote on the games that they wanted to be made. For two weeks, they livestreamed the development of the prototypes, from coding, graphics, to music composition. SpaceBase was one of the higher voted games. And now one year later we get the announcement that they are making this game. That's pretty amazing. Which other company has done anything like that?

That's not in dispute, I just think it's wrong to keep asking for more money when they haven't even shipped their first crowd funded game.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. I'm sorry that I totally blanked on the name of Broken Age, but its not a game I really care that much about. With regards to this announcement, I think its rather odd that they would announce that they are working on a third game when they have already had to come hat-in-hand to the video game community and confess that Broken Age wasn't going to get finished on the outlined timeframe, in addition to generating controversy over crowdfunding a second game (Massive Chalice). I'm sure they have some kind of system over there with multiple people working on multiple projects, and maybe that works for them, but it doesn't really inspire public confidence when you are admitting that you are splitting your company's 65 or so employees between 3 high profile projects and a bunch of other smaller projects as well.

This game looks like it'll be awesome when it's finished, but it doesn't look like the kind of game I want to play in alpha.
