Something I read comes to mind, you never see a fat North Korean, except their leader.

There's a Danish documentary called "The Red Chapel". It's about a film director from Denmark visiting North Korea with two NK-born Danish boys, one of whom is slightly mentally retarded and in a wheelchair, to enact a stupid slapstick scene in a theater. They have to jump through hoops, because nothing in that deliberately stupid scene sticks well enough with the important peoples of NK, so plenty hilarity ensues at the very start.

However, the most shocking and morbidly hilarious part of the movie happened when the three of them go to a traditional North Korean parade. The boy in the wheelchair is told that he has to pretend he's standing up - because officially there are no disabled people in North Korea, so they actually don't understand the fact that someone can't walk at all and has to be wheeled out. He can't do it, though, so they had to spin a story to the press that he was in such awe of the parade that he had to sit down.

It's so crazy it's amazing. Why look for aliens in space, when Kim Jong-Il and his posse gave as an alien civilization in our own world?

Also, I recommend the documentary itself, because it's pretty good - it doesn't have that condescending tone many Western works about North Korea have, instead deciding to let the madness comment on itself.

I kind respecto this culture, it's their way of living and they have their reasons. Unlike something like Egypt, the way they treat the women. It's horrible. I'm from Argentina, by the way.

Big thanks to Drew and the rest of the crew for this bit of content. I've had an interest in North Korea for a long while now, and since I might not have the courage to actually go there this is the closest I might get to being there. I liked how Drew was just completely honest about what he saw in the country, and there was not a mocking tone towards the North Koreans, which many other videos by Americans have. Their leadership might be rotten, but there are historical reasons for why things are the way they are now. Looking at the history of South Korea as backed up by the US, there have also been dodgy periods, such as Park Chung-hee's leadership. Hopefully North Korea will open up and eventually becomes a true democracy as well.

I enjoyed the photographs and the commentary, especially the night time view of the city. I very much welcome this kind of content. Video game related or not, this is some of the best stuff I've seen here.

I did my Politics dissertation on North Korea. Bringing back the memories!

Didn't have Virgin boy eggs (China), eggs soaked in supposedly young boy urine. That was in the news a short while ago. heard about KFC's. But I lived in Taiwan when I was young, some of the food was fantastic.

Yeah for sure, the Vice one was cool, but this was somehow funnier, but more serious and informative at the same time.

Really interesting video. A good sense of timing in my case too, I've been watching a lot of footage from North Korea recently. the people seem really friendly, it's just a shame about the regime.

That was super interesting! It's also kinda crazy to be getting this sort of content from GiantBomb, but crazy in a good way.
