E3 2011: Final Fantasy XIII-2 Trailer

Looks like the battle system is going to continue to disappoint me. Surprised Snow isn't in this trailer. Did everyone finally convince him that he can only be a hero by jumping off a cliff? Oh and I thought all of Snow's lackeys ended up dying in the opening sequence of XIII, or maybe I'm just not remembering right.
 
I'm going to hold off on FF until Versus hits. If it ever does.

I enjoyed XIII but I don't think I care enough about what happens after XIII to buy XIII-2...

Final Fantasy XIII was shit.  At least X was decent.

After the last game I don't trust FF as much. I'll wait for gameplay.

I hated and loved XIII... Still not sure which feeling won out in the end. 

People who say FF13 sucked are plain whiners. They all want things to be perfect and guess what; everything in this world is flawed. You want everything to suit you preference then go make your own game. Sure FF13 is far from the best but it's not all bad. I can name more than five FF titles that are absolutely below 13.
 
You want this then buy this. You want other things then stop trolling on FF. There are a lot of better games out there and use your time playing those games. You don't want this sequel then don't buy it. Simple as that. Haters should just shut up.

I hated FFXIII and could write a novella listing all my problems with it. I think people who really liked that game are seriously deluding themselves. And yet, I know I'll end up buying this anyway. I'm part of the problem.

I have washed my hands of Final Fantasy, the series that I once loved, and will never look back.

Those characters were annoying after a two minute trailer... and the game will probably be 80 hours long

Man I really fucking hate American VO on Japanese games why is it that every time the voices sound so bad? Also I have noticed what I would call maybe a small trend where we hear a game be developed for a really long time, and once that game comes out one or two years later they have the next installment.

Is FF13 Versus still happening? Where the fuck is that game? Y'know, the FF game that actually looks good?

The combat was pretty fun in XIII, so I'm glad that seems to be staying, but I liked absolutely nothing else about it so I can't say whether I'm interested in it until I see more. A lot more.

TBH, I didn't mind the battle system that much, I just hated the hand holding throughout the first half of the game. I actually preferred it to XII's system (enough to stick with it for a few hours longer at least) and I dug the sphere grid, since it was a system I enjoyed from X. Problem is, the story wasn't interesting enough to make me want to power through combat I just sort've wasn't totally annoyed by (if it had XII's story, I would've stuck with it, I think).

I probably won't bother giving it another try, though -- only slightly tempted ;D

I think it's about time I start admitting to myself that I'm really not a Square-Enix fan at all :/

@mutha3: Yeah, it was totally grueling and I felt like I spent more time than I probably should have. I kept waiting to really enjoy myself and just didn't.

The JRPG lover in me, though, has difficulty accepting the fact that I don't really like Final Fantasy very much, so I often get an odd hankering to put myself through it again :/

I loved FFXIII and with the exception of Noel and Serah and maybe the QTEs, this is only going to get better. It's really too bad people couldn't get into it because all the protagonists grow on you, the class/skill building was great and easy to use, it looked great and the combat system at it's best was awesome.

I loved Final Fantasy XIII - it was an amazing game for me, the music, the scenery and the animations were really impressive and I loved the ocmbat system (especially when serious hard enemies and bosses started croping up and you had to really use the entire system to beat them - no playing itself there because if you just auto-battled then you were owned) I also liked the levelling system although it was kinda contrived - totally pumped for this and doesn't matter hwat anyone says - reviewer nor gamer - I am going to play the shit out of this game.
 
Although it was nowhere-near my favourite Final Fantasy game but I did prefer it hugely to 12 or the little I played of 3 and 9.

I really liked it. It was my favorite since VIII, but I thought the ending was dumb. Other than that, I had a good time with it.

Oh man that FF hate in the comments is insane. Anyways, I'm still waiting for my local store to bring FF13 down to 20-ish bucks. Don't feel like going out of my way to find it for that price.

Loved the combat in 13, but this needs to be more open and varied. Literally all you did in that game was fight, fight, fight, cutscene, fight, fight, fight.

Great, they removed Yuna's boobs and gave her a man voice and made a game around it.

I thought FFXII was a great evolution of FF in a more mature direction. I loved the giant world and insane detail.

FFXIII took all the excess that I tolerated in previous FF games to a new level. I'm so sick of every character being a Japanese glam rock star. The characters were so repetitive and empty. Especially Snow. Being pretty isn't good enough for an RPG. FF has no heart anymore.

This game doesn't appear to fix any of FFXIII's problems. It just looks like more pretty flashing lights and trendy clothes/hair. All flash. Japanese games just get more pandery every year. No wonder they're dying off.

 It's clear that you didn't play this game to the end or didn't take time to really understand what was going on.  The characters were some of the most dynamic characters that I have experienced in a video game in a very long time.  All of them significantly change and mature throughout their journey.  Although Snow was the least dynamic individual he was not a static character.  I'm not sure what word would describe how you felt about the game, but lacking "heart" is totally not accurate.  If anything, the franchise has always and continues to have "heart" if nothing else.   I really disliked FF-7 but the story had a ton of "heart".  I absolutely hated FFXII but it had "heart" as well.  I would argue that the Final Fantasy franchise hasn't really changed at all, maybe you and your expectations have.

As somebody whose experience with Final Fantasy XIII veered wildly between love and hate, I'm anticipating the same thing here. I'll definitely buy it, but my relationship with JRPGs has become so fragile that I'll probably wait for a good few months post-release. The characters and story seem more annoying and contrived than FFXIII, though. Hopefully that will be balanced out with some genuine improvements in other areas of the game.

Looks sorta horrible.. And I'll get it on release.

Except default Shepard is modeled on an actual, physically real human. I fail to see the problem with trying to make a character visually relatable. Ridiculous anime hair only ever evokes the label "ridiculous anime person". Which is fine, but sure makes it much harder to take any seriously-presented emotion with the seriousness it may otherwise deserve.

Having recently played Yakuza 3, English dubbed voice seems hell of weird.now.

I hope the leveling system has been changed around and the difficulty fram start to end. XIII was way too easy to begin with, and the combat didn't really get interesting until the third disc...

Ugh. That doesn't make me want to play it at all.

Monsters look recycled and after days of farming and leveling in FF XIII-1 I am not sure if I want to see them again. In addition to that, the new male lead seems to be named "No"?! That's a stupid name and should be westernized.

After all I will buy it, because it's Final Fantasy, but I might be disappointed.
