I have to admit some of that was pretty crazy. When the girl put the controller on the floor to show your Golf lie....that was nuts. Also the baseball part was neat and opens up some neat ideas. Imagine that for a Football game...you actually aim as the quarterback on the throws....or as a receiver aim to catch it etc.

Some sort of a Splinter Cell type game could have alot of neat mechanics with the controller as well. Interesting.

It's definitely interesting. That doesn't mean I care.

Same pattern is gonna repeat with Nintendo here. It'll be hot for the first year or two, but software that truly takes advantage of it will be limited to Nintendo developed titles only, and in 2013 when the new consoles start to hit, the Wii U will quickly fade out and just collect dust for most people.

And once again I say, who would buy this?
And once again, a ton of people will.
*sigh* I hate what Nintendo has become...

You know last night I was thinking about a new Nintendo console and I was almost ready to buy into it. Seeing what this thing actually is that little spark of intrigue has been extinguished.

It seems like despite targeting the hardcore Nintendo has once again landed squarely in the casual. The "transfer from your TV" feature while nice in theory runs into the small screen problem. If I've been playing the game on a gorgeous 50" screen literally seconds ago why would I want to continue to play on a 6" probably lower resolution screen? Seems like it will be most useful for young kids and couples with just the one TV. We have several so fortunately that's not an issue but it makes the feature much less compelling.

The controller doesn't look at all comfortable either. Can any of you really imagine playing a shooter on that thing in preference to the DS3 or 360 controller? Even driving games look like they would be awkward. I feel like Nintendo designed a controller perfect for RPG's but failed to cater for the games that are most popular right now, bad move.

TLDR; Sony and Microsoft have nothing to worry about, Nintendo made another casual device.

I might be getting old but.. That looks like something I won't ever ever care to buy.

I rather spend my money in an iPad... Good luck to Nintendo thou, I hope it works for them.

I love this so much! I'm glad to see that Nintendo took the route of innovation with it's new system, thank god for that, the Wii just sort of petered out these last few years for me. The future is now!!

I was so excited this morning for Nintendo to show me something really awesome, but this thing is decidedly not awesome. All of the stuff in this video is just gimmicky bullshit that has no practical use, and will never get used more than once, if ever at all. Like, people are getting excited about putting your controller on the floor and having a golf ball on it? Give me a fucking break. Transfarring the screen to the controller while your dick friend wants to watch baseball, Why the fuck would anyone do that? Plus, why would I buy this to play games that look the same as and are ports of games that are already on my 360 and PS3? Nintendo's first party games aren't enough to warrant buying this thing. I don't even want to think about how much the controller alone costs, plus the console itself. Ugh. Fuck video games.

The possibility of personalizing the player's view for certain games seems compelling.  Usually the worst part about playing a baseball game with your friend on the same TV is being able to see exactly where they're going to pitch.

This has the potential to go much further than just a map view or inventory display like on the DS.

I've never played Fatal Frame, but I hear lots of people talking about it. This sounds like something that would have that game written all over it.

Wondering how hard it's going to be to switch between the right analog stick and the buttons... Liking the minimalist design though.

@MurderByDeath  Yeah, they kinda forgot to show off their console and just demonstrated their controller, very odd.

@Jolt92: Nobody is denying the transfarring feature of this thing is good but we already know Sony is definitely going to do that with the Vita, continuing your gaming experience when you head out the door. As for the rest of the uses of the controller they all look pretty lame: magnifier for your web browser, display screen for your fitness game, inventory screen?

None of those are at all compelling and critically the screen makes the controller far less comfortable for the core games they're wanting people to play on this system.

There seems to be a missing link towards the feel of usage for this thing. I don't know what but it just seems that way.

That said, I suppose this is just one small step for Nintendo, one giant leap for... whatever. Hope they'll make interesting game mechanics out of this and also newer ideas for their upcoming devices.

Wii kiddies will want to upgrade but it is going to be hard to convince parents this is anythingbut an HD Wii with  a DS controller - stuff they already own. Unless it is cheap - which I cannot imagine considering how much is in the controller alone - parents are going to be slow to upgrade. How many HD rehashes will be out on this thing making it appear all the more like an HD Wii. And what do U games cost - they going up to $60 because that will be another strike for family gamers. I think it has potential to be an 'everything' toy but the cost is going to be prohibitive to its adoption rate.

It does seem they want to win some hardcore back - just based on the launch line up. It has the power to do it but too many core gamers will be hesitant knowing MS and Sony have something probably bigger and better just a year or two away. Something, at least as far as Sony is concerned, that will be first and formost for core gamers. Core gamers are going to want to see way more than launch line up as well - and right now, nothing says the U will keep supporting mature themed games in mass.

Seams like a new controller more then a new console from the video... I may be sitting this one out for a long while.

Really the coolest thing seams to be looking at the ball while playing golf.

This add makes it seem that is is a new controller that they are selling for the Wii, and not a new Wii console.  All the games that are shown look like standard Wii games.

I think it's a really clever move of Nintendo to have the Wii U not quite as powerful as the current PS3 & 360 hardware, they will keep their costs down for now and promote it like mad and rely on innovative software from all parties.

Then as soon as PS4 and the next Xbox (720?) are revealed, Nintendo may be in the perfect position to upgrade that little white box that quietly sits by the TV unnoticed (like in the E3 presentation) in the form of a 'Wii UII' that will whip both Sony of Microsoft's next-gen asses in terms of hardware performance. Even then the Wii U controller that was launched today could be perfectly compatible with the next box.

By this time the developers will have got to grips with taking advantage of it's capabilities and Nintendo could end up with the most powerful and unique console of them all in the next generation of consoles. This must be a MASTERPLAN.

The only "good" thing about the name is that "u" sounds like "two". Making it slightly more clever; raising it to a level of plain dumb.

@omfgzell: You do realize that all of those screens were simulated and didn't actually do all that stuff right? Any way, what is your point? The Wii U is focused primarily on gamers, the Cisco Videoscape All Together thingy is focused on a broader market.

So it really is not a new console then...

It is just an HD Box with a tablet controller that looks awkward and will probably cost another 200 dollars for a system that disappointed a lot of people already...

I am not bashing Nintendo, but lets be honest, people want regular ass controllers. Enough of this novelty stuff.
