He said Japanese video games suck. How is that not generalizing about an entire race of people? It's almost exactly like saying all video games made by black people suck. It's racist. He is a racist. There is no arguing the point.

Exactly. He sometimes says things that make me shake my head and wonder where his tact went, but that doesn't mean he's a terrible person. It's just odd that the internet at large reads two sentences that he's said and decides that he's the worst person ever. It's so childish.

Interesting that you completely ignored my response earlier. I'll rephrase it again. He's generalizing about an industry, not about people. Businesses are not people. You can't be racist against a group of corporations. If I told you American cars suck, or Chilean cheese sucks, or Chinese umbrellas suck, would that be racist? If your answer is yes, then you need to read a book or two because you have no concept of what racism is. Saying japanese games suck is no different than any of the other things I just mentioned. It's not racist at all.

Because video games aren't people. He is of the opinion that Japanese-developed games suck. He is not discriminating against Japanese people, he's merely making a general (maybe too general) statement about Japanese-developed games.

That cracked me up. You know he put it that way to try to get a rise out of him.

I really like Phil Fish. He's outspoken but clearly thinks very deeply about what games have been, are, and will be and their power to transcend what they've been historically classified as. He's a compelling personality.

I don't know how I feel about a bunch of dudes telling women what they can and can't be. That just seems extremely sexist to me. If a woman wants to dance in a cage at E3, that's her decision.

Phil Fish accidentally referred to GDC as E3, or almost did, so he then wrote a sign that got everything wrong as a banner for what was happening.

I appreciated the commentary from Carrie (don't know the last name). It amuses me that the people who tend to be most arsed and outraged about "diversity" lately are white dudes.

With no offence intended, every time the dump truck and beep beep are or have been brought up lately, I'm immediately and unwillingly reminded of the scene in Arrested Development where George Michael carries on the 'bring a daughter to work' joke way longer than anyone else is willing to.

Good story telling in games is great but a game should be fun enough to play for 100 hours. no matter what. If you only played a game for 2 hours than what good is it? I played chu chu rocket a fuck ton. story telling is nothing without good gameplay.

Sorry, I can't dedicated 3 hours of my time to watch this.

Words can't express how happy I was to hear Carrie make basically the same exact point that most of the thoughtful critics of Patrick's articles were making all throughout the last year whenever sexism is brought up... who were then basically dismissed as horrible sexists. But a woman they know said it to their faces so that's what makes it credible and reliable.

Some users around here don't get the credit they deserve.

I love Phil Fish - he's the sort of person I admire for his crazy almost auteur-like quality. I see him kind of like Hideo Kojima, Kanye West or David Jaffe where they're amazing at their craft and can pull of some really amazing things that can have a lasting impact, but they're a little bit crazy.\

This series of GDC/Pax videos were really fun - I loved every minute of it. Keep on truckin' guys - love what you're doing. Though, that pie flushing video was a bit much.

Anyway, Jeff and Carrie should just get married.
