"After you save the village from werewolves, every time you go back there they will praise you as their hero!"

Yeah, you and every other mook on the server. Can we push this genre forward a bit, PLEASE?

It looks nice even if it doesn't seem very much like The Elder Scrolls. Oh well.

The problem with MMOs is that most people who played early MMOs are grown up now, have jobs and families, and don't have this kind of time anymore. Also, the stale battle mechanics consisting of standing still while attacking with no collision is unappealing. I understand why this is not quite possible yet but I don't understand why no one is pushing the technology enough anymore.

I hate dev diaries.

Me too man, me too.

Give me gameplay video with voice over narration. Or an interview with gameplay shown here and there.

But don't give me these staged, scripted cycle-jerking videos where people are recorded in front of green screens (so it seems like high quality) and praise their own game in generic terms. It's just so unnatural.

You hit the nail on the head. I can't help but think of how awkward I'd feel if I were asked to contribute to one of these (not that I'm a game dev, but if I were.)

I can't wait for this game! My favorite quest in Skyrim was the one where that lady in Whiterun needed me to go out and collect 25 Mudcrab meats.

One server. Either they're just dumb as hell and don't understand how many people will flood to a new MMO on launch day or they're expecting to not push a whole lot of units.

Either way, count me the fuck out. You know what ES needed? More third person fighting and janky-ass raid bosses. Everyone's gonna gather in the capital city and crash the one server they have. After awhile they'll have to fragment the userbase by getting more servers just so people stop bitching. And then the game will go F2P after about 8 months.

While I wish this game the best, I feel like the Elder Scrolls community just isn't big enough to support a massive undertaking like this. Yea Skyrim may have sold well but a lot of that was word-of-mouth. I think this is just going to be another big KOTOR debacle. Shame. I wish them the best though.

Umm... Pick a class? Seems like they're getting rid of one of the most unique systems that Elder Scrolls has going for it.

Still very skeptical at this game. Granted, 4 years ago, I would've flocked to it with open arms and take that $15/month fee. Nowadays? It's hard for me to even go out and pick up Guild Wars 2 (though a Black Friday deal might change that). Also....

MEGASERVER!

Looks like a great, traditional MMO, but the video didn't even seem to try to make a case to fans of Elder Scrolls who aren't fans of MMOs. As interesting as Tamriel is, and as much as I want to spend more time in it, it is enough to make me want to play a type of game I don't really want to play. I think they would be much better off if they stopped treating this like the "next" Elder Scrolls game, and just set it aside as its own thing.

I'm still not seeing anything "breaking the format", as it were. As much fun as I've had playing EQ, EQ2 and WoW back in the day, I just can't see myself finding that interest again. An MMORPG needs to some how completely break out of the box for it to interest me, again and unfortunately I'm not really sure how that can be accomplished.

They are. That's why it's not Elder Scrolls 6. It's still the next Elder Scrolls game, just like Halo:ODST was the "next" Halo game after Halo 3.

This game will cover the gap between ES5 and 6 since we won't see 6 until well after the next Fallout game. That is unless Bethesda Softworks proper does something crazy like create a new IP for the next console cycle.

I would really love it if this game was amazing but, it just looks like DnD: Online set in Tamriel. It'll probably also do as well as that game did.

I'm surprised, it looks better than i thought it would. I REALLY dont like the "megaserver" stuff though, thats technically the same as having everything instanced.

That usually ends with both you and your friend being in the exact same spot but not being able to find each other because you are on different...things.

Lots of slow moving pans of generic looking scenery? check

Lots of shots of characters jankily moving around doing canned combat animations? check

Lots of promises about how fun and balanced PVP is going to be for all levels? check

Ladies and gentlemen. I do believe we have ourselves a video about an upcoming MMORPG.

This looks awful. All this development wasted into a dead-end genre and compromises. This is doomed from the start. They should face reality and realizes it plays horribly bad, scrap the MMO and convert it into a single player game with coop.

Nooo thanks... I really don't get who in their right mind would approve an MMORPG in this age - so much talet and money wasted that could have been spend on new good games instead of an MMO that will be free to play faster than it takes to complete Skyrim.. I get that the choice was made a long time ago where it looked profittable but times changed and hey should have cut their losses and utilized the talent and art assets in other games.. This offers virtually nothing for Elder Scroll fans and the few still into MMOs are sticking with WOW as the Star Wars failure showed.. and yet they insist on releasing this.. good thing I'm not a shareholder - such a shame!

I think I'm just sick of this setting. I obviously can't speak for everybody but I got enough of forests and caves in Skyrim. I mean, the Secret World was pretty awful but at least the setting was different enough to hold my attention for more than a week.

Kind of feels like they're taking the old MMO tropes and actually doing something fairly good with them. I was so skeptical of this, but this video made me optimistic.

the reason elderscrolls games have kept me interested throughout the years is because you're NOT playing inside the MMO-formula. This game is like the direct opposite of what I would like from an elderscrolls game :(

This.

Well, kind of. That's not the primary reason why I play elder scrolls games. I play them first and foremost because they are an immersive world. But otherwise, yes.

I wish they'd stop, they're only going to hurt themselves with this.

I don't understand who thinks this is going to be successful. Especially after The Old Republic. It's even more generic than TOR even! We've probably had hundreds of fantasy MMORPGs by this point?

A waste of resources.

Bethesda should have focused on fixing skyrim for the PS3 first and foremost, afterwards they should focus on what makes TES great, single player content for Skyrim and their next projects (TES &Fallout)

Like SWTOR, this game will simply slow to a crawl after a few months, to a point where it will eventually go free to play and get by on the skin of its teeth through microtransactions.

If Bethesda really want to include some multiplayer aspect then they should trial a co-op mod like option for the main game, it won't happen of course because it'll be hard to monetise.

I like the idea of being able to explore ALL of Tamriel, i'm just not convinced we need another MMO. At least not one that doesn't really offer anything different to the marketplace. I think the general feeling is that MMO's really need to shift their systems away from the endless grinding and raiding (which I know isn't the only thing people do, but at least with my experience with WOW, that's all my friends did). Maybe look forward into dynamic player experiences, fluid battles and more dynamic ways to gain levels and use players desire for exploration and friendly combat to drive levelling.

This is going to sound like a plug (and I am biased), but if those are the sorts of experiences you want from an MMO, I highly recommend doing some research into Guild Wars 2.
