wouldn't putting a disc in while it stands up be kinda awkward given the lack of a slot tray?

That disk tray door reminds me of the Atari 5200's storage thing. Now that is a feature today's consoles are sorely missing.

You didn't turn it vertically and then see that it opens differently. :)

Different how?

I believe it has a smoother opening speed vertically which is weird but cool.

Yeah, I'm not sure I'd stand it vertically, but it does open better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwOsZbZYZTE&t=4m41s

Honestly they should've stuck with the previous design, and scaled it down smaller. The sliding door seems very cheap compared to the other versions.

I seriously love you guys.

I would like to see a Quick look on transferring data. How do you do it, what cables do you need? How long does it take to move from 60/80 GB (what people light have) and move that data to the 250 GB drive? What happens to the old drive, does the process wipe it? Could you clone your old machine onto multiple SuperSlims or is there some sort of prevention on that?

Wasn't too negative on the new PS3 when I first heard about it but after seeing it closer on the QL, really don't like the top loading feature over the simple process of just putting in a disc in the drive normally on the previous ps3 versions. This top loading version just seems like it's a complicated solution on something that worked just fine.

Not a big fan of PS3 because most games are available on the 360 anyways, there are only a few titles that are not. I'm probably going to buy 1 anyways just to say I have 1...500 gb is what I'm waiting on.

Ah, but did you get your slim after one of the die-shrinks? After they cut 1/3 power they cut it again. After that they cut it down once more but also removed a few indicator LEDs. There is a best model of PS3 in there somewhere.

I dunno. It was straight from Sony june of last year. My store got a busted fat PS3 that came in and I called Sony and they said that I could send it in and for $100 they'd send me a slim.

Still running a fat original PS3... also known as the JET ENGINE!

Thinking about getting a new PS3 soon, but this new redesign looks awful, hate the sliding disc tray.

Listen, the PS3 costs a good chunk of money to make. Slot drives cost more money than the manual open drive they have. Plus, there is obvious benefits to it, like discussed in the video.

It's lighter and smaller and the opening tray probably won't break anytime soon..

That sliding top loader is awful. Reminds me of 1980s video recorders.

My god, that thing looks like The 80s.

That's a lovely thing about Sony's consoles that seems intentional. The fat PS2 was based on the design for the Atari Falcon 030 Microbox, the slim PS2 was pretty reminiscent of mid 80's top loaded tape decks, home computer tape drives and a fair bit of the Atari Falcon 040 Microbox, which had a top loaded CD-ROM drive, and well, the new PS3 slim looks kinda like a cross between that design and the original PS3 design, which I'm sure was also based on some odd 80's home computer they bought the design rights for.

There's an actual open button for the top loader! Don't have to manually open the tray like these guys (and other videos on other sites show). Although, it does show how flimsy the top loader door is...

Almost the 6th anniversary of the release of the PS3 and they're still making these I'm amused. They told me back then that PC gaming was dead. Seems that PC gaming is still relevent when the competition is still using 6 year old hardware...But it can play movies. o m g!

So they went from the original which looks like cheap crap because the plastic is too shiny, to the slim, which looks slick as all hell, to this weird, ugly thing with pleated plastic on the top like it's a damn bread box. I understand making it a top loader, but what is with the pleated plastic? What is with Sony and not being able to make plastic aesthetically pleasing? Nintendo and Microsoft seem to manage it. I agree with patrick--that stupid plastic on the top ruins the whole aesthetic of something that would look pretty slick otherwise, despite it being cheaper to produce.
