About the Goro reveal, I guess I will just wait for the inevitable GOTY edition, where they pack in all the DLC costumes and characters.

Oh, well... That is WB in a nutshell.

Weren't they both killed by the end of 9?

Because if they are going to pull some portal bullshit to bring people back from the dead now, then I guess anything/anyone goes...

pretty much, cause in the comics thats leading up to MKX, Scorpion is alive and well. as apparently Kenshi rescued him from Quan Chi and from the Netherealm.

Well... Scorpion is fair game, I guess, since he has always been an undead, and resurrected again and again, but I always thought they write themselves into a wall by the end of 9. Having them backpedal lke this is not really surprising, but rather underwhelming.

There might be time travel shenanigans at play. Or I guess alt dimensional versions, but yeah if you are going to get the shine for a good campaign story and some of that comes from not pulling any punches regarding sacred cows, then bringing several dead characters back seems a bit unambitious. Though maybe this is all commentary on the cyclical nature of Mortal Kombat as a whole (where characters can expect to die millions if not billions of times)

Guys. It's not that complicated. There are necromancers in the MK universe. People can be raised from the dead. I swear, people have already forgotten that Sindel was raised from the dead in MK9.

How can you make Goro a pre-order character like that? Dude basically defines MK to me and you're going to hide his ass behind some money grubbing nonsense? Guess I'll just have to wait till MKX goes on sale then - I've got enough to play as it is anyways.

Still disappointing though. Why don't they just lock everyone behind a pay wall and make it free to play, with Quan Chi as the only included free character? Just kick us all over again, you know? Dicks.

pretty good trailer. Then the pre-order BS comes in like and completely deflates it. I'm 99% certain this is WB's doing and not Netherealm but still, what horseshit.

@awkwardloser: Same here. Johnny Cage was my main for MK9 and Kung Loa and Sektor were my other two. But if Cassie is just Johnny's moves mashed up with Sonya's, which looks to be the case with her doing an upper cut kick (johnnys rising elbow) then a downward dive kick (Sonya), I'm in. De'vorah looks pretty cool too.

Man, after MK4 came out, I kinda felt like it was losing steam and I'd never come back to it. If you were to tell me that all the way in 2015, I'd be excited about a Mortal Kombat game, I would have never believed you.

Also, as for all the story inconsistencies, the normal VS mode can do whatever and that's fine. There doesn't need to be consistency with who is alive or not since it's a fighting game and at the end of every match, someone dies. In story mode, however, they should be consistent. People can still enjoy "dead" characters in normal matches while the story mode can still leave the dead ones dead. I don't get why they would feel obligated to bring dead people into the story. Fans want to be able to play these characters more than they want to see them in cutscenes.

Not digging the new char designs at all. Plus why do they have to be so grey and colorless? Is this the "realistic" chapter in the MK SaGa nobody asked for?

@bombzinski: Studies show console gamers want the famous palette "Grey of Duty" for all games.

Waiting for Nightwolf (the most racist/offensive MK character) and Stryker (the best MK character). I would love to see Cyborg Sub Zero and/or Cyborg Smoke, and regular Smoke come back. I'm trying to remember who lived and who died during the last game. The probably doesn't matter since the MK series has a history of bringing back whoever the hell they want without much explanation.

But holy shit that looks good. This might be the thing that makes me get a PS4.

It is kind of bizarre that MK has become the golden standard of storytelling in fighting games, which is why some of us keep it to a higher standard than other fighting games.

MK 9 was the first (if we exclude MKvsDC) that has a proper story mode (instead of a set-up and some post-release canon), so I guess people assumed they were not going to fall in the trappings of previous games... but yes, death has traditionally been cheap in MK.

Yeah, that sounds like the most "plausible" explanation. Just have a necromancer show up at the site of the Sindel massacre and raise everyone there...

The story is probably the BEST in fighting games, but MK is still, at the end of the day, MK. Death is a temporary absence at best. That being said, there is no guarantee that the character won't technically die. I mean, Liu Kang was basically permanently killed off since he never came back in his original form, right?

But as for the character being completely gone? It's very rare.

Truth. When Liu Kang was killed "for real", it was shown in a cutscene at the beginning of the game. That was pretty much the main difference. Of course other people get in and out of the roster (fatalities are a thing in MK, after all), but the difference with Liu Kang that make it stick was that it was the same from everyone's vantage point. It didn't matter who you choose to use, it just happened. In MK 9 there was a cutscene that killed over 70 % of the remaining good guys, so many thought it would stick too...

Look, at this point "who is back?" is nothing but a fun topic of discussion (even in the podcast). I am just a little underwhelmed (but not surprised) that the answer ended up to be "they are all back, because... fuck it"

I can't help but say "Oh, fuck!" every time I see a new fatality. Is it too early to wonder about what crazy DLC character they'll pump out next? Freddy Krueger was a surprisingly a fun character to play as and ended up being one of my mains.

...but...Sindel was brought back from the dead in MK9. Establishing necromancy in fantasy is not that uncommon, and once established as cannon, shouldn't be considered off limits for the protagonists. For such a well regarded story...err...popular story, this (what I thought) huge detail, seems to have been forgotten all together.

Well, you don't know that. MKX takes place 25 years after(or during thous years) the events of the MK9, so we have no idea what the hell has been going down. And judging from the prelude comic, there has been some serious developments. I'd tell you some, but only if you don't mind spoilers.

Either ways, while yes, some characters will be back, I doubt it'll be shoved under the rug. The reasons behind the resurrections may be bizarre, but a weird explanation is better than having no explanation at all.

Few things for those complaining over the DLC, nobody if forcing you to pre-order it'll be available eventually via DLC(so just wait if you don't want to pre order, it's merely a way of them saying thanks for preordering as a bonus here you get this guy or costume earlier) they did the SAME thing with MK 9 with the classic ninja costumes depending where you got it from or if you preordered...so please stop complaining over the "omg I have to preorder to play Goro" bit or B. Wait til the Ultimate Edition comes out, WB unlike greedy Capcom only makes 2 versions the standard with option to DLC everything else OR if you don't have the game already just wait to buy the version with everything on it...at least it's not like WB is Capcom where they make 10 versions of the same damn game and charge you for DLC that's on the damn disc already....

@Stonyman65: What? Dude how the hell is Nightwolf racist character? lol He's a native American, KI has Chief Thunder, and there are sevaral games with Bruce Lee clones, Black guys, natives etc so that comment makes zero sense...and Stryker is far from the best MK character lol...

Hate people who get offended by diversity SMH...

Oh lastly, MK X rocks this trailer has me so excited for it!

On the resurrecting gig, anyone who's followed MK over the years knows the dead coming back shouldn't surprise anyone. MK is literally the DC/Marvel of video games when it comes to that stuff lol. They kill major characters and bring them back...

MK X comic is awesome so I look forward to this game to tie up what the comic will lead to.
