Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Footage, Now in English!

I love the new voice actor.

I don't love the new voice actor.

I love Kiefer.

I can't get used to Sutherland. I've heard Hayter as Snake for too long. I keep waiting to hear Snake talk and then realize that he had been for a while. I'll probably get used to it, but it is a much harder adjustment than the new VO for Sam Fischer in Splinter Cell Black List.

So wait, im still confused, is Ground Zeroes a part of MGS V, or is it a separate thing?

So Snake/Big Boss really is the only one they replaced. I mean, they brought back Christopher Randolph as Emmerich.

I think Kiefer sounds fine as Big Boss (though a little weird, but not in a bad way), but Skull Face's English voice is not what I expected. He sounds more subdued than the guy in the Japanese trailer.

It's going to be hard to get used to Sutherland as Big Boss. I don't even think he sounds bad. Just... off-putting when you're so used to Hayter voicing that character.

You guys should probably fight.

The fact that Christopher Randolph is there, to me, cements the theory that David Hayter is going to show up in some form.

@maajin: Yeah, I still think the game is going to end with a flash-forward to young Solid Snake sneaking up on Outer Heaven for Metal Gear 1 (voiced by Hayter).

Though, I'm pretty sure the original Japanese voice actor is voicing Big Boss in MGSV, so that kinda shoots all sorts of holes in that theory.

as far as I can tell so far, Ground Zeroes is the prologue chapter in MGSV a bit like how the tanker chapter was the prologue for MGS2. I could be wrong though...

Ground Zeroes is like a prequel to The Phantom Pain I think. Phantom Pain will be a bigger game, but Ground Zeroes will set everything up. They're both parts of MGS V or something like that.

Actually, that's because the Japanese voice actor is the same across all the Snakes.

Pretty bland voice-acting so far. Nothing with real character, but okay.

What concerns me visually are those insane lense-flares. They seem awesome at times, but I think they could be 10% of the current size and intensity and still look ok. Rest looks good, I like the adaptive Depth of Field. That's neat!

Really? Liquid, Solid, Solidus, and Naked? I mean, that kinda makes way more sense than having clones sound completely different from each other, but I'm still surprised.

This game looks slick as hell. Real excited to play it eventually.

I think Kiefer will do a good job and I'm not really bothered about David Hayter not being in the role. But my problem is with Kojima, he basically betrayed his friend and long time colleague (probably for money) and someone who has been the main attraction for the games in the US and Europe. It makes it seem kind of off putting to buy a game from someone who treats people like that. I still think Kiefer's involvement is related to the upcoming movie and don't see David Hayter coming into the picture.

On the subject of voice acting...I don't think Skullface has a good voice, I imagined him to sound different. Very underwhelming.

EDIT: now that I've watched this it seems like Kiefer is playing Snake completely differently. He's totally serious whereas David hams it up in a way that goes with the silly dialogue. Some of the stuff in this video just sounded forced.

I dunno. Kiefer didn't put enough emphasis on that "huh?"

I'm not happy with the new voice acting either. I won't say that I'm not going to play it because of it but Hayter was so good at Snake and Sutherland's too recognizable as Jack Bauer and trying to sell me Ford trucks on TV.

I've heard Hayter too long as Snake and Sutherland too long as Jack Bauer. As of now I can't separate the two.

I know it seems kinda ridiculous to say this is a deal-breaker, but it was definitely taking me out of it . . . Skullface didn't sound too great either. Maybe there could just be a Japanese language option!

I started to shake with angst the moment Kiefer's name appeared onscreen. This is such an unimportant issue in the grand scheme of video-games, let alone life; yet my heart feels broken. I won't be able to play this in English.

You know what? I think even now we're still being fucked with by Kojima and I don't trust any info about this game until I've played it myself. I'm expecting David Hayter to show up and the whole game itself to be a colossal mindfuck.

Deep down, I still believe this is gag by Kojima taken all the way to the extreme. Either that or Hayter is gonna voice a young David.

Yup, the disconnect of hearing Sutherland's voice and seeing Snake will take some getting used to. Oddly enough I'm more comfortable with the Japanese voice actor than either Sutherland or Hayter right now.

It really needs to come from the gut. Although if he doesn't say "Metal Gear?!" with complete bewilderment I just might cry.

I grew up listening to david hayter as snake since the first metal gear solid on PSX, it so weird not hearing the snake that I have known since 1998. I didn't think it would matter but it does!!!!!!

You know it's weird. The whole inspiration for Solid Snake/Big Boss was Snake Plissken from the Escape movies. David Hayter did a good job as a pseudo-Snake Plissken voice but I have to say that Keifer (from what I've heard so far) actually does that pseudo-Snake Plissken voice better.

Kiefer will never be Solid Snake or Big Boss in our minds, but I think he gets closer to the source inspirations.

Kinda like how Timothy Dalton as James Bond was.

The only thing that bothers me is the inferred highly convoluted story, though of course I know it going in. It's just when they start talking about it making perfect sense, it reminds me of that guy with weird hair- internet meme who always going 'I'm not saying a bunch of bullshit, but It's a bunch of bullshit.'.

One of the reasons I really hated Peace Walker, even though I enjoyed the mechanics, was that it vilified and destroyed my favorite character in it, Paz. Hearing that she may still be alive, I'm all in for this game, Southerland or no.

...Though I will admit hearing his voice coming out of Snake's mouth is a little off-putting.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Ground Zeroes is supposed to serve as a prologue to The Phantom Pain. Still no clue on whether or not they're both on the same disc or if they'll be sold separately (possibly a Dead Rising 2: Case Zero / Dead Rising 2 sort of thing?).
