Man, I probably won't play this, but I love Atlus for being weird. Explaining which subseries a game of theirs is from is now up there with trying to explain what the hell Inception was about to someone who never sees movies.

Not all the Persona 3 dudes survived by the way, but they're in this. So this thing is probably seperated from the canon in that Kingdom Hearts style fan-fictiony way.

Well, I ordered a 2DS... 3 minutes after watching this trailer.

Oh man, I hope they get the Female MC from Persona 3:Portable in there somewhere. I really loved her design. One of my favorite game avatars ever.

Not sure if this is supposed to be canon or what, but I'm down with some Persona 3/4 side-story business.

Unsure about this one. I still need to beat Shin Megami Tensei IV beforhand. What I really want from Atlus is a new Disgaea game for 3DS.

Atlus doesn't make the Disgaea series. That's Nippon Ichi Software. Atlus USA was only responsible for publishing the first Disgaea in North America.

Thank you Lord, for having convinced me to buy a 3DS for no good reason at all (Pokémon's kinda meh)! So getting the Japanese version of this.

Curious how they'll deal with having such a giant cast of dudes and (presumably if its like other games) only 4 or 5 slots. Or if there's any advantage to taking, say, 2 dudes of the same element. Or if the team splits off on seperate ventures and you can switch back and forth between 2 teams (I'd be okay with this)

Yeah, and I'd also really, REALLY not want an easy peasy dungeon crawler grind out of this. A DC loses alot of its reason for existing when you can traipse thru it (most of EO3, SMT:SJ, and P4:G). Again, "FOE! FOE! FOE!!!"

This obviously isn't canon, Shinji is there so yeah. I didn't see Ken in the trailer, which is odd.

Anyway that logo is fucking fantastic and I will have to get this day one (if it ends up being good.)

@bisonhero: It is called Persona Q because EO in Japan is generally shortened to SQ, because it is called something different there. So since the game is basically an EO (SQ) clone they replaced the S with Persona as a...nod(?) I guess.

From what I remember hearing on the stream last night, I think the Japanese commentators were discussing how you choose one of the two protagonists to be the leader of the main party, which confers different effects upon them as a result. I don't think they got into specifics, but it sounds like the development team is indeed trying to incentivize different party configurations to at least some degree. I was busy translating other stuff for people listening, so I didn't necessarily catch everything they were saying in great detail, but I'm pretty sure they brought that up at least.

So during the stream I was upset that this wasn't P5, but since that was also announced, the blood has cleared from my eyes and this actually looks cool. 3DS sure has some awesome games these days.

Is the only reason people are saying this is not canon because of the P3 dudes? or is there something in the Japanese i'm not getting?

Cause if its just that, i wouldn't be surprised if atlus pulled something out of their ass to justify it.

Both are pretty good but EO4's probably a bit cheaper so there's that. There are demos on the eshop for both that allow you to try out the first few parts of each and you can carry over your save data if you dig what you see and buy an actual copy (digital or physical). Untold's a remake of the first game and includes an optional story mode w/ an extra dungeon but lacks the world map and side dungeons of EO4.

Typically you create a party of 5 from a variety of classes, give em names, make up some back story in your head for each and go explore a giant labyrinth. There's story but it's kind of light since the real meat of EO is in the dungeon exploration/battles. Untold's story mode sets you up with a party of named characters and adds more story into the mix if that's your thing though. Otherwise you can just choose to make your own dudes.

Only thing else I can think to mention is that both have easy modes if you're struggling and both don't require near as much grinding as the previous games (EO3 was rough...). Status attacks and debuffs go a long way and just exploring/fulfilling jobs in town can raise you up to a decent level.

@amethus: Ok thanks! Well since it seems like the story is not essential and EO4 is much cheaper I may go for that one. I did try the demo once a long time ago but was put off by the art style so I just stopped playing. Gonna try the demo one more time.

Why not? I don't know the market here since the 3DS is mainly my wife's console but I do hope this gets released here.

The devil survivor games took an eternity getting released here, Shin Megami Tensei 4 doesn't even have a European release date yet. And now with Atlus gone, chances are even more slim than they already were.

Japanese titles are often delayed years or are forever stuck in TBA limbo.

I love how some of these characters are dead but it's all like "WHATEVER" and throws chibi versions of all these characters at you. Because Persona 3 and 4 are friggin' awesome.

This looks amazing. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Guys, you could save that dead character's life in Persona 3 Portable. And with the way The Answer changed the ending to P3, I'm sure they could find a way to call this canon.
