I was never a fan of Blade Runner. I felt the movie didn't live up to Isaac Asimov's novella "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" (I Love that title). Hence, I wish they would pick something else next time.

This video series is literally the only reason I keep my subscription alive. For a while there I was worried they stopped doing them.

I've owned this game for over 10 years, but I've never played it. Maybe I should, some day.

SO much potential with this game. I remember the promises of randomly decided replicants, the real time activities, opposing Blade Runners who would pick up clues you missed and get your mark before you do, holding off on uploading clues to the police database for the same reason, all sorts of crazy, ambitious stuff.

Beautiful game they ended up with, and still a lot of fun, but not so variable. Bunch of things that don't get used like the conversation moods and the whole clue/suspect database. And I didn't care for the blatant Roy Batty knockoff as a main villain, but ah well. Still a fine adventure.

I agree. I felt very misled when it came out. The reviews I had read were completely onboard with these promises, showing that they had either not played through the game more than once, or were deliberately misleading their readership at the request of developers.

Having said that, it was still a fun game, even though it felt like I was basically going through the paces of scenes duplicated from the movie. My memory is that there was much more than just Roy ripped out of the movie, the protagonist also seemed like a blatant Deckard ripoff to me as well. I also seem to remember that there was a female good-guy replicant who mirrored Rachel's role from the film. Could be wrong though, it was probably 1997 when I last played this.

Hmm, but the game DID randomise whether certain characters were replicant or not for each play. There were whole locations where major events happened that I hardly even visited in other playthroughs. And if you missed clues, you could progress in other ways, and sometimes other cops would find clues if you didn't. And there were multiple endings that were more than just different cutscenes So those promises weren't really a million miles off. Perhaps it didn't quite live up to the ambition, but it still did a lot of very impressive things.

Best feature on the site, just a pity there's not more of it. The first bits were a little frustrating, only because I was worried they'd run into a wall by missing clues, but it was really great to see them play a game that is really good and that Dave has such an affection for. And relax Dave! So what if you had lost 10 minutes or so by getting arrested after killing that shop owner? It would've been entertaining!

I eagerly anticipate more and also hope that Phantasmagoria 2 is right around the corner once they wrap up Blade Runner. How has that not happened yet?

YES YES YES!! We need Phantasmagoria 2!

You know you played a game a lot when you were younger when the dialogue that comes out is 1:1 with your memory of the game. Man that game was great in all sorts of ways.

To those who have already watched this, where does it rank for a Random PC Game segment?

I'm downloading it right now to watch later.

It's no Phantasmagoria, but nothing ever will be. It's good.

I'm hoping the eventual RPCG of Phantasmagoria 2 will be an instant classic

Add Ripper to that list, PUH-LEASE.

Can we all agree on this order?

  1. Phantasmagoria
  2. Police Quest: SWAT
  3. Ripper
  4. Burn: Cycle
  5. Blade Runner
Actually, as great as Ripper was (and it was) the best part was the bar scene, I would put Burn Cycle over Ripper. Like so:

  1. Phantasmagoria
  2. Police Quest: SWAT
  3. Burn: Cycle
  4. Ripper
  5. Blade Runner
But ya otherwise I agree. Although come to think of it Crusader No Remorse was really great too- damn I wish they'd go back to that game too. I love that game as well. A lot of it's charm is the amazing FMV. They got stuck on that one due to a bug so it kind of petered out but Vinny had said he wanted to go back to it. I don't think they will but it'd be cool if they did.

@beard_of_zeus: Actually the only reason he kept failing is because it requires you to run specifically to the bottom right of the screen- anywhere else and you die. Its annoying because it feels like logically you should be able to run to the left and that's where players (at least from what little data I have- being me and Dave) feel they should go.

I had so much trouble with that back in the day.

So really insanity won out on that as he was doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result haha

This is what I did for a friend's birthday:

I booted up the game, went to McCoy's apartment balcony, and proceeded to record the sound (on cassette tape!). The rain, the flying cars, the music. Filled the tape, present got!

I love this game, probably replay it every year or so. With this and Sim Golf they're pretty much playing through my childhood. If the play The Nomad Soul / Omikron next I'll start to get worried.

Most of the story of the game follows the that of the book. Although it takes it an interesting direction towards the end. I recently read through the book and was a little freaked out at how similar it was. Would love to see Telltale create something in this universe.

Fact: Steele (the lady bladerunner) is voiced by the same actor who plays Cuddy in House MD

There's a glitch in the shooting section due to the game coming out when CPU's were a lot slower.

I found this out the hard way...

Man...the bomb scene happening over and over was hilarious. The timing and clicking required to get out of there seemed obnoxiously difficult, though, so props to Dave for persevering.

Never played Blade Runner back in the day, but this actually seems like a pretty good game! Color me surprised.

I gotta say, they did a REALLY good job recreating the music from Blade Runner. Dave is wrong in the video, its not the original soundtrack, they couldnt license it so they had Frank Klepacki re-record the soundtrack. Did a great job too.
