Jeff and Ryan go for a drive and stop for some petrol. Doesn't sound like an entertaining video, but it sure was.

Goodness, the UK would seriously kill for your gasoline prices. My current estimate of UK petrol prices converted into US gallons is £5.05 to the gallon (3.79 litres to a US gallon) equivalent to $7.94.

I witnessed TV's on gas pumps for the first time when I drove to Boston for PAX East from bumblefuck-nowhere, Pennsylvania. It was bizarre. It was tuned into the channel "GSTV," which I assume is short for Gas Station TV.

There's nothing I love more than when the guys go to CAX. I'm very envious! The arcade era from 1983-1997 were some of the best times of my life and I love everything about arcade and pinball machines. I hope that one of these days I will be able to make it out to California to one of these expos. Would be even cooler if I ran into Ryan, Jeff, & Vinny while I was there. Can't wait for the Bombcast to hear all the kooky stories even if it's just a repeat of what happened last year. I can't imagine much changing but who knows?? Awesome stuff!

3.55/gal is not cheap, we're just so used to getting fucked that it seems cheap :(

Anyway...good luck getting Tapper!

$3.55/gal IS cheap.

It's currently $1.27/litre here in Nova Scotia, which is $4.76/gal.

Americans always bitch about expensive gas, when theirs is among the cheapest.

In the US $3.55 is just about the highest it's ever been........ ever. So people complain.

Bull! Just last month I was paying 4.45 in my area(and that was a steal), 3.57 is the highest it's been my ass

Not that I complaining btw(with some countries paying almost double)

@Top8cat: Those a mostly in front of Car Super Store areas. Though there appears to be one coming to a Target in Oxnard CA. Ventura, where I live, is just blighted by the gas station pumps that spew stuff at me.

Gas in my area dropped under $3 a few weeks back. It's sitting at $3.15 now.

That chart ends in 2011. At that time, $3.57 was the highest. Also keep in mind that this is the average price of gas for the entire nation. Some places are going to be higher.

Example: Last month the average price for 1 gallon of regular was $3.55 yet you paid $4.45. Do you happen to live in New York, California, Illinois, North Dakota, Oregon, or Washington? Those states all pay above average prices.

Another thing to keep in mind is that America is very much a driving nation. Most other countries have other legitimate sources of transit that personal vehicles.* The way our infrastructure is built, there are very few opportunities for public transit, and what there is doesn't span the vast distances between major hubs, and even within local areas and some major cities there are next to no means to get around aside from driving.**

For some anecdotals, the majority of people I'm either related to, friends with, or an acquaintance (sp?) of have commutes of 30+ miles, and the average is closer to 45 miles. This makes biking or walking to work/school kind of a silly proposition, and if the nearest bus stop is an entire city away because your city doesn't have a bus system at all, or in Houston's case, where the bus system is known for being a truly terrible experience, and a last ditch gamble...you get a large number of people who drive a whole lot. Add to that the idea that gas is literally the most expensive its ever been here (When I started driving it was just over a buck-eighty a gallon [iirc]. That was 2004/2005ish. So not that long ago.)

I dunno, just some things to think on when you see people complaining about the cost of gas. Does it justify it? Eh, dunno. Just adding some extra stuff, not trying to make any kind of plea or anything. ~srug~

*(Yes, some cities have decent ones too. I know a lot of people in major cities in California don't even bother owning cars. This is very much the exception.)

**(Yes, I know there are large countries that have good public transit. America is not one of them. Especially not in the Southern portion.)

They're usually used to play ads. You also see small LCD TVs in the checkout lines at grocery stores. I find those to usually be playing a cooking show that tells you about recipes using ingredients conveniently located at that supermarket.

@Matoyak: US citizens have absolutely legitimate reasons to drive. Living there (CA) for a while with only a bicycle was painful. Anyway. Gas will go away at some point and it will be to valuable to burn it in cars way before that. Electric cars will not help, as they have there own problems. Its time to reorganize our communities and embrace a more urban and modest life style. Don't see that happening though.

I remember when I was 16. I could fill my tank on my '91 Grand Am for like $10. Now, it's like $30 to fill my Civic... and it has a smaller gas tank than my Grand Am did.
