I am used to buying all the consoles but having bought the Wii U and having prefered the Xbox 360 over my PS3, I think i would be better off spending my money on the next Xbox. I did buy a Vita at launch so who knows. They might change my mind on the day of the announcement. It will have to be really special though!

The only way they will come out strong is if they miraculously have come up with a way to make the ps4 significantly different from the ps3, and personally I dont know how they could do that. How do you top Uncharted 3 graphically? What game could they possibly show to make everyone go 'I have to get one of those!'

Less holy shit are strong rumours that we've been worrying about all the time that Europe will wait until early 2014 but eh as long as it's free online and region-less (developer/publisher choice yeah..) I'll wait a month or two extra in exchange for not getting as badly fucked in the ass by the pricing like Nintendo always have been fucking us.

Since it's been so long for this generation, I think that the one that comes out with the console first may be the winner this time. Many like me are so ready for a new generation. If they come out first and come out strong, we will get on board rather than waiting for Microsoft.

Even though that video can be interpreted as a tease for ANYTHING Playstation related, I really do hope it's new hardware and, despite the fact I played 360 almost exclusively this generation, I really hope Sony knocks it out of the park on this one. Healthy and fierce competition is good for us consumers and Sony has more first party franchises I'm interested in than Microsoft and still gets a number of Japanese exclusives I'm interested in. I appreciated their move to region free this generation too and hope the next console remains so. I really do hope they do something new with the controller this generation though. The 360 control is, in my opinion, much more comfortable to hold and use, and the triggers on the DS3 are garbage. If Sony can do that and reach parity with XBL and/or Steam in the online arena and put more standard hardware in their console this time (i.e. more similar to PC architecture and less like the Cell processor) Sony has an excellent shot of making a comeback this generation.

I think the WiiU is too underpowered to hang with the other two this generation and the tablet is less accessible or approachable to non-gamers than the Wii controller. I'm of the opinion that most non-gamers that came into the market with the Wii are now back out of the console market, settling largely for games they can play on their phone or tablet or maybe even Facebook. Remember, the Wii came out in 2007 and mobile gaming was nowhere near as ubiquitous as it is today.

As yet there has been no real"Oh shit, gotta have THAT" moment with any game making use of the WiiU controller yet and the only thing most people seem to be using it for is to play games without using their TV which for most gamers I'd think is a solution for a problem that doesn't exist.

Microsoft, for my money, has been very lazy of recent in giving me any reason to stick with them in the next generation. Using XBL Gold as a paywall behind which to hide Netflix and party chat while offering no real benefit to the gaming experience (i.e. dedicated servers, removal of ads, customizable dashboard, or anything like PS+ offers) is beginning to leave a bad taste in my mouth. Unless they make huge strides of their own with their new console, I'll be changing platforms this generation, either to PS or fully to Steam, friends list be damned.

Okay someone at least clarify to me.... Out the gate, will these new consoles at least compete with current high-end gaming PC's?

For some reason, I would feel kinda bummed if next-gen games looked like current pc games.... Not to say pc games don't look good enough but my mind longs for some crazy new graphical feats...

yeah it was Naughty Dog's b-team that made Uncharted 3, and that turned out GREAT. Except it was actually a huge turd, and I would hope they don't make that mistake again.

Uncharted 3 was fine, it just wasn't a huge leap compared to the last one. Unfortunately, that makes your game a failure these days.

Actually, it was a game filled with unfun and frustrating scripted sequences surrounded by a completely unfinished story. Hey, remember near the end when they set up that there's a goddamn genie in that jar thing they're bringing up? Or when two characters just totally disappeared?

It's hard enough to emulate a 64-bit environment with a 32-bit processor (so hard, in fact, that the PS3 fat had the 64-bit PS2 CPU and all of its other components inside of its giant enclosure).

Emulating the balls-crazy designed-by-an-insane-person Cell architecture with an x64 processor is going to be borderline impossible. Devs have complained over and over about how stupid the development process for PS3 games is, and having a single PowerPC core tied to six usable floating-point cores with only half of the system's total RAM only ever available to it is the single most retarded design paradigm in a primarily game-playing system ever.

It's gonna be really difficult for Sony to make the PS4 backwards-compatible without streaming the games using their Gaikai stuff.

I stated earlier that the reason I've had Xbox 360s for 7 years and now own hundreds of games on it, is largely because Sony (I'd been playing PlayStation and PlayStation 2 primarily), delayed the PS3's European launch by 6 months or something - apparently they're doing the same thing again. Something to do with European distribution, all I know is they won't let me buy one regardless of my interest for months after it's been available elsewhere.

It might not seem like a big deal in the long run, but as soon as I've established a favourite console and get the multi-platform games for it that's potentially thousands of dollars one company is getting over the other. I still might get a PS3 for its legacy and the exclusives, but that's little compared to the Xbox 360.

Seems like Sony has been fucking inconsistent as hell with what they've been saying. The big names talking about the next generation said that Sony wouldn't be talking at all about the next generation until next year.

i just bought a ps3 and i think for the next generation im going to buy a xbox (my faovorite) AND A ps so i dont miss out on things like journey and flower when they come out. from the beginning.

I hope they can make a great return to form here. The PS1 and especially the PS2 really helped lead the pack, so it was strange that they managed to trail so hard for the PS3 (600 US dollars didn't help). I doubt they'll be cheaper than Microsoft here either, but beating them to the punch might help a lot.

The only concern is if they'll charge for multiplayer or not, which will drop any good will I've had for them. Xbox really needs to drop that aspect; it's pure extortion and it's exactly why I'd rather not patron them at all.

While I'm excited to see the hardware and software that's going to be running on the system, it's all about the games. I got a good PC so any multiplatform games that come out are going to be on my PC. So I hope they come out of the gate strong with some platform exclusives.
