" @Turambar:  Ok, this is getting a little taxing. Again, Turambar, I do not understand exactly what I'm supposed to be bitter about here. I haven't actually shared what I know with you yet, because you don't seem interested. You not being interested in learning about this subject means precisely nil to me. It means nothing, other than it shows you to be unwilling to listen and learn to facts and ideas that disagree with your own. That you know my "opinion" to be wrong can be nothing more than an egregious fallacy because you don't know what my "opinion" is, at all. Now, I'd like to share what I know with you... but that's just because I enjoy teaching. It just sounds like you're afraid of learning facts that challenge your beliefs. And, personally, that makes me really sad for you.    As for the parody, the major features of anime covered where incompressible narrative and over sexualized characters. You may not agree with the parody. That does not make the parody any less successful.   As for the narrow mindedness, I was addressing both you and the thread. The thread has been confused as to the definition of narrow mindedness. You have displayed a great deal of narrow mindedness. Put them together, there it be.   Never could really get into CSI myself. I was more into Law and Order. CSI always seemed too over glossed and fake. "

You seem bitter and offended because I have no intention of asking at all, caused ironically by the fact that you don't seem to have any interest in telling me.  Your defense for your opinion is that you're learned, never the actual contents of what you learned.  If you feel the contents give credence to your point, I see no reason why you would actually wait for me to ask.  And yes, I am very unwilling to listen to an opinion whose backing is only made up of "I'm learned."  I'm far more receptive when there is content worth listening to.

Ask a person what they think of when they hear convoluted narrative and sexualized female characters and anime will certainly not be the only thing to come to their minds.  Again, those are not the major features of anime, but the major features of media at large.  We only know this is a parody of anime because of magical school girl troupes used in it.  Those troupes are some of the major features found in anime.  Those troupes are however by no means the only major features of anime.  Hence, why I can both agree with the parody, and also disagree with people trying to lift the scope of it higher than it actually reaches.

If I'm narrow minded because I don't care for opinion lacking reasoning, then by all means, I'm narrow minded.

Law and Order is just as fake and glossy as CSI is as far as I'm concerned.  Both are good shows, but I find CSI far more interesting because of Grissom's character.

" @Turambar: So, I don't understand how pointing out that you seemed to be bitterly rejecting out of hand what I know to be true is supposed to wind up with me as the bitter one here. Some amazingly backwards logic. Up until this point you haven't inquired after what I know... I mean, that is if what you've written there is actually an inquiry. Is it?  On the second point, again, Turambar, a satire does not have to cover each and every facet of an idea to be a complete parody of that idea.As for narrow mindedness, I was actually simultaneously aiming that comment at the thread. What makes you ask? "

If what you know to be true is falsity as far as I'm concerened, is there a reason I shouldn't bother rejecting it out of hand?  If you disagree and want to claim what you learned is indeed true and I'm the one that's wrong, feel free to by all means.  But don't feel so offended if someone on the internet simply shrugs at all your claims say you're wrong, made all the more easier when your claims are simply reemphasizing how supposedly learned you are about anime.  I'm not the bitter one here, you are.

I haven't inquired what you know because, as previously stated, I don't really care what you know, and neither have you given me a reason to otherwise.  My responses aren't inquiries into whatever knowledge you may or may not have, they're just dismissals of your faulty opinion, pure and simple.  I suppose I can condense them into just "no, you're wrong" each time, but eh.  I write these while watching old episodes of CSI at the same time so I don't mind making them longer.

No, satire doesn't need to cover every facet, but it does need to cover every major feature of an idea.

When someone makes the statment "Turambar, that is the definition of narrow mindedness", I'd say most would agree that that statement is being directed towards "Turambar", not  the thread.  I asked since Ashogo was the only one who mentioned narrow-mindedness in a post that you responded to.  I have yet to make any similar accusations.

One:  Er, why would I care how much you know and studied anime?  I believe you're wrong, and offered the reasons why.  If you don't think you are, don't be bothered by it, or offer a rebuttal that doesn't consist of simply pointing at how much you learned about anime?  It seems like you're the one that's bitter and offended because someone on the internet said you're wrong.

Two: I don't expect a Rockstar parody of anime to be all encompassing.  But I certainly do expect viewers to realize that fact and not treat it as such.

Edit: umm, when did I call you narrow minded?  Sure you're not mixing me up with that comment Ashogo made?

@Turambar: First of all, it's clear to me you have no idea how satire works. Parody does not need to be a "successful and accurate representation" of every single facet of the idea it is parodying. And here, it would be impossible to the point of ridiculousness to have expected Rockstar to have represented every genre of anime its parody of anime in general. That would be absurd, and I'm a little confused as to what you're trying to get at by suggesting it.

Secondly, it is becoming painfully obvious that you do not care what and how much I know about anime. What I've studied about anime must be wrong because this trailer has left Turambar offended and bitter.

Turambar, that is the definition of narrow mindedness.

Yeah, actually, actually no. I've actually studied the "form" in some pretty heavy detail. For instance, I can tell you the history that explains why anime boys look like girls, and the role that the concept of yijing plays in anime. And yes, incomprehensible and confusing narratives and over sexualized female characters are specific to every genre of anime, and I can give you some reasons why that is the case.  The trailer would be incredibly poor satire if its "anime at its finest," was meant as a parody of all media. You can find such elements present in every form of art, both low and high, yes. But that does not take away from the fact that this was meant as a satire of anime, and judging from your vehemently angry reaction, it apparently hits its mark quite well. As I've said already, incomprehensible characters and over sexualized characters are heavily present in all genre of anime. That some genres place a greater emphasis on these elements than others does not change that fact.  You can shake your head at who ever you feel, and for what ever silly reasons you want. But you'd have to be blind to not see that this trailer specifies itself as a parody not of all media, not of some genres of anime, but of anime in its totality. If you want to shake your head in pity at Rockstar, I'm sure they will be glad to laugh in your face. Much as I'm compelled to. "

Again, how learned you want to claim you are in anime makes no difference to me if the your end view of the media form hits far off the mark.  When you're wrong, you're just wrong.

My reaction to the trailer itself is actually quite positive.  As I said already, I find it rather funny, and is a fairly accurate parody of what anime penetration into the US was back in the 90s, which can be summed up as Sailor Moon and DBZ.  To a lesser extent, I can argue it is also accurate of the new "moe" wave that is dominating each season currently.  My disappointment comes from those that, again, would point to this trailer as justification for their inaccurate assumptions of anime as a whole.   Incomprehensible and confusing narrative and over sexualized female characters fits pretty much every media form.  If you dislike anime because it contains them, you're probably not going to like much of anything that you read, watch, or play.  Additionally, generalizations are just that.  They exist in all genres of anime, but then again, exceptions are found in all genres as well.  If someone wants to abstain from all anime because of those traits, wouldn't the numerous exceptions make that abstinence rather silly?

Now, as for what Rockstar intended to do.  Did they intend to make this parody reflect all of anime?  Probably.  But does this parody actually reflect all of anime?  No, not by a long shot.  It takes aspects of a certain set of anime genres, but leaves a large number out.  Sure, this set is probably what the bulk of the western audience is familiar with, but it's still incomplete.  Martial arts, magic school girls, and mecha.  This essentially equates to DBZ, Sailor Moon, and Gundam Wing.  But if I'm to, again, say Legend of the Galactic Heroes, does the entire Space Opera genre find any representation in that parody?  Or what if I say Honey and Clover and what it represents.  Does that romance genre find any representation?  Or how about something like Welcome to the NHK or Bartender?  The broad strokes the parody paints is far too broad to say it is a parody of specifically anime.  The narrow strokes that it paints is too narrow to say it includes all of anime.  If someone from Rockstar says to me this parody is a successful and accurate representation of specifically the entirety of anime, I'd chuckle out of disappointment.  At which point, you'd probably feel compelled to laugh at me in response, and hey, you're more than welcome to, but both Rockstar and you would both still be wrong.

And vehement?  As far as the trailer goes, I think offended and bitter are some of the last things I'd say in response to it, wouldn't you agree?

@Afroman269: Yeah, those that refuse to recognize that this trailer was pretty damn funny because it "misrepresents anime" need to grow up.  It's a parody and is by definition over the top and not exactly accurate.  That's not in question.  But people that actually see this as justification for their rather narrow view of anime as a whole are just as face-palm worthy.

It's funny how the anime fans are getting butt hurt over this. Who cares they're pointing out a lot of obvious things that a lot of anime shows have such as the blatant sexuality. I know that they're some shows that are not like this but that is a few. Get over it, you don't see people bitching over republican space rangers.

If I don't get a sizable amount of creepy tentacle rape/pedo jokes, I'm never buying another GTA game ever again. Honest.

Are you kidding me?  It's going to more than likely inspire some Japanophiles to write up a 26 episode TREATMENT for this.
