This Diablo III Animated Short Is Supremely Metal

Man, it is so cool to see the Arch-Angels I read about in the Sin War Trilogy actually visualized.

I'd watch a Diablo series like this.

If there actually was some metal in this video it would have been even more awesome. As we all know, Deckard Cains voice, multiple colors of angelwings and the devil can make any music genre peak!

It should have been darker and grittier and when the angel attacked and made the laser noise or w/e it didn't quite fit, Aeon Flux guys weren't the match I'd think of when I think of a kick ass Diablo cartoon. Aeon Flux was neat but very niche.

I enjoyed that quite a bit. Nice change of pace from the usual CG Blizzard does.

Anyways - whilst checking out Tartakovsky clips on youtube, I stumbled over this gem of a scene from Sym-Biotic Titan. Definitely worth wasting a couple of minutes on. Bloody genious this man.

Didn't even know about this show beforehand. I've seen it around, but never watched it. I just didn't know it belonged Genndy's body of work. Need to ingest more Sym-Biotic Titan! NAO!

Man even with awesome stuff like this their are whiners. I swear the old vocal minority that is the "make Diablo 3 dark n shit cause reasons" crowd are all a bunch of derps.

Nope not at all japanese... it looks like cheap korean animation, maybe. Im guessing from the credits, thats what it is. I'll give you that it looks like american attempt at anime, but not very successful.

I'm not going to go as far as to claim to be able to argue that it couldn't be Korean style. It just has that look to it that I associate with older or cheaper anime or western takes on it.

EXPOSITION - Holy shit are the writers at Blizzard bad. It's as if it was written by a 15 year old who only watches Naruto or DBZ all day. All their trailers and cut scenes are like this.

I know little about the Diablo mythos, but I'm pretty sure the above video is a prequel to the games.

In Diablo I, evil drives a dude crazy. The crazy dude tries to summon Diablo. Diablo is contained in a soulstone and the player puts the soulstone into his forehead.

In Diablo II, the main character from Diablo I goes crazy from the soulstone and tries to summon all the bad dudes. The player destroys the soulstone, supposedly banishing Diablo forever (yeah, right).

Pretty amazing if a little short.

This almost seems more inspired by Magicka more than other Blizzard animated short pieces/trailers. Too bad this didn't have the wacky stuff going on in the Magicka trailers as it might have been much better.

It's not from the creators of Metalocalypse, it's from the animation studio that the creators outsourced the graphics to.

Interesting video I guess. Just wasn't something I expected and not in a good way. When you brought up the creators of Metalocalypse, I just thought there would be more gore and you know... metal.

Nice change of pace for the realistic looking Blizzard cutscenes. I liked this.

This was directed by Peter Chung, the guy that did Aeon Flux. You can see a lot of the Aeon Flux inspiration in the character design.

Meh. I'm a sucker for the realistic and violent cinematics from the old games, they have incredible dark atmosphere that stands up to this day. It doesn't convey the familiar Diablo tone of a downtrodden broken world that's being assaulted by an unspeakable evil...it comes off much too lighthearted : /

While pretty cool, I'm pissed that I watched this.

I enjoy diablo so much more when the lore is left in obscurity.

I just wished they'd made a normal FMV instead of an animated short. But it still is awesome nontheless.

I didn't really know what to expect, but that was pretty cool.

I never liked Aeon Flux so it doesn't surprise me that I don't like this one bit. There's been leaps in the animation industry, it seems silly to me to step back into 1996.

I'm partial to Genndy Tartakovsky(Samurai Jack, Dexter's Labratory, Powerpuff Girls, Clone Wars) when it comes to this particular style of animation. He's the unrivaled master of it.

Take a look at his animated prologue to the Priest movie...

Similar style, just much better. Way more clear, with powerful kinetic choreography and epic dynamic composition. Larger than life awesome.

You sound like an animator. I got the exact same vibe. It really didnt FEEL like a Peter Chung work. I thought the description may have been mistaken but it says right there in the credits. Maybe he had his hand forced at a specific style or had to work with a smaller team he's never worked with?

But yes, Tartakovky is one of my favorites. Right up there with Hiroyuki Imaishi. He almost makes modern, Japanese Loony Toons!

Jesus fucking Christ, Titmouse has come a Loooooong way from Metalocalypse. Between this and Motor City, and also the promotional shorts they did for Scott Pilgrim on Adult Swim, they're looking super capable these days. Never thought they'd be able to pull off anime-style. I wanna see more efforts from them of this quality.

And Blizzard? Even though their CG team is world class and critically acclaimed, bravo on going 2D here since it turned out so beautifully.

I would have also accepted: Blizzard brings together the creators of Aeon Flux and Home Mvoies to show us the early days of the fight between arcangels and demons.

However, I do see the Metalocalypse being more apropos here.

If Asura's Wrath DLC final blew you mind. You definitely definitely have to watch it, or just the ending/movie. Which is what I did and it's scale of madness was just baffling.

I didn't realise Diablo had lore. I thought it was just HURRR DEMONS ARE COOL.

Can't wait for Diablo 3, but this video was lame.
