I guess by releasing a bunch of stuff that really isn't news it's one way to keep people talking about your product and also dumping information so people don't ask real questions.

I was wondering what the situation would be on wired/wireless versions of the controller. Since I use a wired 360pad on my PC I was wondering if I'd have to buy a separate controller just for that again since the Xbox One seems to be shipping only with wireless ones. Seems like the case is that I can use any/all of the controllers because there is only one version, I just have to figure out the best way to obtain that cable, be it through the play and charge kit or if the initial release bundles come with a usb/micro usb cable already etc.

THEN I guess the only other step to using it on my PC is waiting for any drivers, which I'd imagine will happen quickly. Not in a hurry though cause there's zero games I'll prolly be wanting to use the new controller with that won't just be better on my console (I can't afford a new 2k PC just for those first games in 2014 prolly).

DISCLAIMER: Sony is paying my rent.

Having Said That: I love this controller! The d-pad actually clicks. The bumper buttons click, too -- and heck of loudly. As the proud owner of The Loudest Mechanical Keyboard On The Market, this is literally the best thing I can ask for from a controller.

Also the carbon fiber weave around the analog sticks feels stupidly luxurious. In my experience testing the sticks, I detected a monstrously reduced dead zone.

I sure look forward to using this controller to play Sega Genesis games I download 100% Legally from Steam.

I'd somehow managed to miss that it has a micro USB connection. Actually surprised by this. Microsoft tends to love them some proprietary stuff.

You can only charge Microsoft's battery pack though right, not regular AA's?

Word is there is official word on PC Xbox One controller usage, yay. Seems like a small deal and one could assume as much but having an official response makes me happy. Microsoft says they are working on it, and that they are trying to make it work seamlessly for current 360pad PC games currently, which I guess I wasn't thinking about (I didn't care since I'd have been ok using both controllers, however combersome taht could have been). So I look forward to using an Xbox One controller, on my PC, Playing Sleeping Dogs, later in 2014! Cheers guys we did it.

Really does look like a great improvement over the 360 controller. Love the attention to things such as no screw holes, the height of the d-pad, the rumble in the triggers and the grip around the sticks. While I really want to check it out, I actually more interested in seeing how the PS4 controller feels just because of how bad the PS3 one was.

KOTATSU

The Xbox One controller won't quite be ready for PC gamers. The 360 gamepad has been popular there, but due to the incompatibility of the Xbox One controller and the 360 one, plugging an Xbox One controller into a computer won't just work—not yet.

Alam didn't have any details to share on this, but a Microsoft spokesperson said, in an e-mailed statement, that there is some work that we need to do to make sure that existing PC games that support the Xbox 360 controller will work with the Xbox One controller. While it seems trivial, it’s actually quite a bit of dedicated work for all that to be seamless for the user. We know people want to use the Xbox One controller on their PC, and we do too - we expect to have the functionality available in 2014."

That's pretty sweet that we got confirmation that it will be at least available. I don't use the 360 controller much on my PC, but its real nice to have that option.

That pad looks to be the shit, but it's not gonna sell me on the console, I'm afraid. I'll wait for more u-turns on the Kinect pack-in before I can even begin to justify buying one. Even then, I've gone seriously off the boil with all things XBOX over the last year or two, so they have a lot of work to do to restore any amount of good faith with me.

The only faith I do have is that there'll be PC support in no time at all for this sexy looking pad. That's all I care for.

Isn't the GB community pretty often really negative? Nothing seems any different than ever before.

Anyway, personally speaking, I find it hard not to be really cynical in response to this video. I have a really visceral hatred for all of these canned advertising videos such as this. "So, the Xbox 360 controller was the best of all-time; you guys just must have put in a lot of work to improve on this. Now I'm going to ask you a lot of questions I already know the answers to in as rigid a manner as possible; please answer them as we have practiced."

Regardless of who is doing it, it makes me feel icky. I feel like here in 2013 we should be way beyond that sort of half-hearted, infomercial-style way of conveying information. They occasionally give some interesting details, but it's all done so insincerely that cynicism seems like the only way to react.

That just sounds like a really nice well made thing. I hope that they integrate those triggers into the xinput API so that PC developers can use them.

Wow, I was thinking the same thing. It's sad that I thought I was reading a reddit thread for a minute there. Sad to see the GB community jump on the MS negativity bandwagon.

Everyone is on that bandwagon. Haven't you seen the poll results from around the internet? 80% of gamers are getting a PS4. I'm sure that number has changed a bit since Microsoft did a 360 on their DRM stance, but most of us haven't forgotten about the shit they tried to pull. They lost a lot of loyal fans.

To be fair, there's a difference between negativity and criticism, and I think the GB crowd are very good at voicing why they have the opinions they do. I don't feel that there's a great deal of mudslinging for the sake of mudslinging.

There's always the odd exception, of course, but that's the case anywhere. There's just a lot of news to be critical of, at the moment.

The controller feels fine, I used it at E3.

But do not believe the bullshit Major Nelson is listing for the feedback triggers. They do not resist or kick back at all, let alone to varying amounts. All they do is rumble the triggers separately from the rest of the controller.

And the rumble doesn't vary much despite what they say. Just like the main controller rumble, they can just turn the rumble motor up or down. It doesn't shake to different amounts, but instead just to different speeds.

Also, the stuff about latency is crap. The previous protocol was low latency enough that you could play Rockband over it. The reduction in latency on this device, 20% though it may be, will not amount to anything you can notice.

Also, has anyone really had problems with the screw holes on the current controller? I've never heard of that. The current controller is designed such that the screws are not where you apply grip pressure to the controller. I think MS just determined that ultrasonically welding the controller shut was cheaper than screws and wanted to make up a story about how you should be happy you can no longer open your controllers.

For anyone who doesn't know, the "transparent" aluminum is just aluminum with tiny holes drilled in it to let light through. In normal circumstances you don't notice the holes, but when the light comes on it shines through. This is exactly the same way the light on an Apple MacBook next to the camera lights up to tell you the camera is active.

Someone should tell this guy that 20 x and 20 % are not the same thing or maybe its a American thing. I felt he first mentioned the controller bandwidth being 20 x (20 times faster) and later says 20 % (being 1.2 times faster).

I too have been listening to the "Major Nelson Podcast" and I agree. He may not be a douche but from what I can gather, he seems awfully self-centered.

These two videos that they've released about the Xbox One recently are so badly produced that it I find them embarrassing and sometimes agonising to watch. Everything seems so rushed and they don't give the engineer enough time to talk - I'd really love to hear what he has to say. Videos on the internet are not time-restricted!

I think it's time for Larry to pass on the torch to someone else. My vote goes to Jeff Green!

Thought this was interesting and informative, console allegiances aside. That was smart of them to point out the 'transparent aluminum' for a little extra geek cred. Zofi seems more friendly and authentic than any of their PR guys.

The rumble triggers do strike me as having a certain wide-reaching novelty, though people will definitely demand the ability to turn them off for CoD and the like.

---

Anyway, though it's a good video, I'm already very biased against this controller. The previous one's overdeveloped handlebar ergonomics made my hands ache regularly, and I don't have small hands. Both Spelunky and Rez HD were wasted purchases for me due to the 360's controller. Also, having those concave thumbsticks that I can't naturally travel my thumb over to and back from, in a game like Demon's Souls that uses the whole controller... not a fan. I know they're more precise for FPSes, but that's not the entire game lineup, anymore.

Most importantly, that D-pad had better be downright patent-infringing after the previous one. Its recurved shape and glossiness already make me concerned about it.

Would love to see something similar done with the new Dual Shock. I already suspect that they've made the handles too big, from the amount of times I've heard Xbox centric gamers talking it up.
