I love MMA but im not sure i wanna get this, i got ufc 2009 and i loved it but i dont want to be buying a new game with slight improvements every year. This however is showing some good new additions and i dont know.....i just might end up getting it still.

If they've managed to improve on the minor problems of the first one, this'll definitely be the MMA game to beat.
However, after this year's installment, if the game continues as a yearly series, I'm not entirely sure I'll remain interested.

His jaw is as wide as the crown of his head.

Imagine trying to drop that fucker on St. Patrick's night in a pub on Cork's northside.

That would not go well.

Ouch.

Something about that commercial bothered me.  That's right, BJ's mma skills cannot be matched.  Except by George St. Pierre, who beat his ass twice.

GSP is huge for his weight class and out wrestles everyone, BJ imo is still ahead of GSP in terms on skills, BJ would need to gain a lot of strength and learn some wrestling before taking on GSP again.

Honestly, if you ignore his second loss to Matt Hughes and his two back to back losses to GSP then he's actually speaking the truth.

Unless you're GSP, or a greatly trained Middleweight or higher, I wouldn't mess with BJ Penn.  He'll take pieces of your body home with him.

I am a Tae Kwon Do expert and am learning Shotokan Karate and I know for a fact that I can defeat this guy with ease. MMA is a sham and they have no honor like true martial artists train to achieve and live their code by. Any MMA "fighter" has no chance against a true martial artists such as myself.

penn got his black belt in 3 years ??? 3 years ?? i had to train my ass off for 5 just to get bleu belt. and another 2 1/2 years to get brown belt . i think it is a bad sign when the fighters are able to reach world titels in 3 years . from my experience it takes far more time to master a martial art  and it speaks off the quality off the school and the sensei. even if penn is like a super man, 3 years is not enough ! or it was a fixed when he became champion . it would realy be amazing if he can outclass all the guys who trained for a decade to master their sport. and dont get me wrong, i can see he has skill and i would have to see more of him to realy judge his skill's in a fair way . but i wish him well.
edit ; i did karate not ju jitsu.

@lunalicrichard: You have NO IDEA. What you're talking about. None.

1. Your krotty belt does not compare to Penn's BJJ belt. Don't act like there's a basis for comparison.
2. There is a reason BJ Penn is called "the prodigy."

Indeed. This trailer feels strange to me. They promote a fighter that has been beaten, and hard. Also it's not the person on the cover of the box, AND they do it in a way that makes other fighters looks bad imo.

If they really wanted to make a trailer of a great unbeaten figher they should have taken someone like Lyoto who is in fact unbeaten ( although the fight against Shogun was iffy ).

Oh and against all you karate types feeling insulted etc. In Jiujitsu you get your belt based on what you can do and how you can perform. He got his after 3 years because he was able to perform as a blackbelt. Says enough that he won the world championship after that ( don't need much more proof imo ).

Still. Odd trailer.

and GSP refuses to go up in weight to fight at middleweight as of now even tho he has practically beaten everyone noteworthy in his weight class.

You are a tool.  So your saying say even tho BJ won all those things as a BJJ fighter before he went into the UFC and started training in other disciplines aswell would still get beat by your "true martial artist"?.  Yeah one demention and two dementions are always way better than a 3rd....  You have no idea what your talking about.  Same with the other guy who said he is a so called "expert".  These guys train 5-6 hours a day 6 days a week and you think you or some random guy can just walk up and beat him mr 9-5 pencil pusher "I'm a Tae Kwan Doe expert"? Right....

I'm not a tool, I live in reality. It was proven numerous times before with exhibition fights, that comercially trained fighters don't stand a chance to true martial artists who train and live that way their entire live - in the likehood of Shaolin Monks and their kung fu.

You even have some videos on youtube with grand master of any kind martial art and what not trying to topple a shaolin monk, to no avial. It's simple as that, training for 3 hours/day per week wont even get you close to training 10+ hours every day for the entire life.

This guy might have attributes that would crush me, you and other but there's people out there who would crush him with moving one finger - it's simple as that. Just because it's on TV and he's full of muscles and supposedly well traiend doesn't mean he's the be all end all. That's why I said a small figure fighter who embraces the training and lifestyle for his whole life would have easy work with him or even 3 of him at once.

It's not hard to track these guys down, they are pretty open about what gyms they train at. Why don't you go tell BJ Penn what you think? Good luck getting choked unconscious and peed on.

You obviously ARE a tool, and you obviously DO NOT live in reality. Shaolin Monks and Karate Mans are all products of 70's-90's movies, and it's been well documented that their fighting styles aren't practical for use in the REAL WORLD.

To further my point,  your assumption that these guys train 10 hours a day just shows how ignorant you are. These REAL fighters spend ENTIRE months of their lives in the gym preparing for their opponents. Just a little tip for you buddy, STREET FIGHTER IS NOT REAL.

I wish people like you would go educate themselves on subjects where they want to lecture people. Every prick can earn themselves a black belt and become a champion in any of the martial art sports if he really wants it and trains hard.

But there is a difference between BJ, Tyson, Barada and all the other fancy title wearers to a guy who is born and put to a martial art training at the age of 2 and trains 24 hours each day through pain and suffering for the next 50 years of his life.

As said you are even to lazy to youtube some videos, and then you try to lecture someone. I told you it was proven numerous times, that a champion of any kind (Boxing, Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Judo, Ju-Jitzu etc.) doesn't stand a chance, because they don't endure the same training and most importantly, they are usually trained by someone who thinks he knows how stuff works but really doesn't. Everyone with a black belt can go and open a dojo and teach siblings. They will probably be good and earn titles, but they wont even reach the toe of people who live their life through martial training physically and mentally.

BJ is training let's say at max 8 hours a day before a fight and quite a lot less when there's no fight, as most professionals do, a true shaolin monks (not the outcasts you have over there)  training never really ends, they don't sleep on beds, they hang by neck and ankles for example.

When a BJ will be able to pinch a needle through solid glass, that is the day that I'll admit defeat. Basically that's what I'm trying to tell you, some can do the impossible in our eyes, punching someone on the face or kicking him until he's down is not impressive, touching someone with 2 fingers, making them crawl in pain on the other hand is, making a head stand on one finger and holding it for hours is more impressive as benching weight.

And yes that's all part of combat, knowing your enemies nervous system and what not, you don't need brute force to take someone down if you know how. Sadly those comercial fighters know only how to punch and take punches and where they would win the most money and that my friend is the sad reality.

it's funny to see people who were enrolled in traditional martial arts when they were kids see that what they learned a long time ago was a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

Sure, if you learn how to punch and kick in karate or TKD you're going to have an advantage against someone who hasn't, but it doesn't mean that your style is the best, or the most up to date.

Youtube the old Gracie videos pitting their Gracie Jiu Jitsu against  any martial artist who wanted to challenge them. This is what MMA was started for, to see how Gracie Jiu Jitsu would dominate other martial arts, and for a while it did, and is still a fundamental aspect in training. Unlike many other traditional martial arts that lived by legend and hear-say, the Gracies filmed everything and put their money where their mouths were at, and thus MMA as we know it now was born.

Somebody is watching a little too much Kill Bill. I don't really want to get into this with somebody who obviously knows so little of what actually goes on in the world. But in a real fight, what is pinching a needle through solid glass going to do for you? It's much easier to punch a guy in the head, or an arm and crank it until it breaks, than it is to try and touch an area of your opponents body that's the size of a pinpoint.

Again, I don't doubt that these guys might actually know the "touch of death" which I'm pretty skeptical of because I'm quite sure you heard about it in the Simpsons, but we're talking about actual fighting practicality versus what one can only describe as "theatrics". If I had to lay money down on BJ Penn vs. any Shaolin Monk, I'd wage my entire life savings on it because BJ Penn trains to FIGHT, not to stand on his fingers.

Watch any of his fights at 155lbs.

At welterweight he puts on too much weight, but at lightweight he is untouchable right now, and a pound for pound best.

I think that Machida and others have shown that there are a lot of great aspects from Karate that can be applied, such as the speed, ability to dodge and parry attacks, and striking before an opponent strikes you.

That has to be taken in consideration though that he is also well versed in Muay Thai, BJJ, and Sumo. Karate alone will leave you with too many holes in your game, but there are for sure elements that are quite useful.

Right.... "
