How long has this can been a fixture of the GB office, because it keeps getting mentioned as if it had been around for a while and yet I can't remember having heard about it before even though I listen to each Bombcast?

Oh god, after hearing about this can for so long I don't think I can watch anyone eat that thing. Christ.

I am from Sweden and even i would never touch that stuff. I know some northern people that actually eat that stuff and they all say that sourcream,hard bread and red unions is an absolute must, and to do it without beer is just silly.

( also i suspect lots of vodka is involved...)

Can we get a medical update on Drew and Kessler?  I don't have high hopes.

Judging by a few comments made by Swedish members, that Surstrômming was waaay past it's prime. Did anyone end up getting sick from it? 

Funny how the non-game related videos always get the most comments on GB.  Are people really here for video game stuff? =P

To be more clear about what surströmming (or sour herring) is I want tot point out that it's fermented Baltic herring. The process in whitch it's fermented makes the herring to get really salty and be kind of moist. As a Swede from up north this is a classical dish and the premier in august is one given highlight of the year. 
 
You should certainly not eat surströmming as it is, at least not the first time. However, I for example enjoy the fish directly, in some extents. 
 
A good way to eat surströmming:
 
Take a flatbread.
Choose if you want butter on or not. Note that the butter will make it harder to eat since the bread goes soft.
Prepare your surströmming by removing the skin (if having a can of fillet) or removing the insides, bones and skin (if using the whole fish cans). After this you should cut the fish in pieces.
Lay the fish on your flatbread, well spread out.
Mash or slice freshly cooked potatoes ontop of the fish.
Add some clicks of sourcream or creme fraisché, fine chopped onion and dill above this.
 
Enjoy your sandwich! 
 
If wanted, you can test with many other toppings. One popular is sliced tomatoes, however my opinion is that this makes the sandwich go soft and it makes it harder to eat.
 
And hey guys, this really is a lovely meal! However, most of the ones who enjoys it do hate the smell. So that's normal. :P
