This seems like the kind of future in which halfway through the story you discover Omega is processed baby tears.

It's kinda funny how the model cities for this SimCity game is the polar opposite of the city planning that we had at least in Sweden the past half century, where city suburbs were built to have industry, housing and markets within the same area, so people could live, work and shop, without having to travel any vast distances, often even within walking distance. I've generally built in cities in SC2000 and SC4 according to similar models, but this SC actively promotes the idea that you should divide industry, shopping and housing into separate cities with relatively long travelling distances inbetween.

I like to think that the way he runs his city is the same way EA runs their games. Fucking over citizens to build fusion power plants, because 'its worth it', selling drugs, and researching everything but a better game.

Seeing this reminds me how angry I am I bought SimCity...and that I have a ban on all future EA games after other disappointments (Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 to name a couple).

I'm buying it. Even with the problems, I had a blast playing Sim City. Also, they said a little bit ago that they are indeed researching bigger cities and offline mode. It will happen guys. The hate for this game approaches Teabagger irrationality. Calm your tits boys.

How do we deal with the horrible traffic problems in the core game? Lets have mass transit that bypasses the roads, and workplaces that can be operated remotely!

Don't forget about the drones the deliver goods and houses that are also offices that are also malls!

I don't have as much vitriol towards this game as most, but this entire video reeks of them coming up with ways to solve their shitty AI through workarounds rather than actually fix it/redo it.

Fool me once, shame on you.....fool me twice, shame on me.

"We learned how to bring SimCity into the future.....by making a crappy modern game that nobody liked or could actually use properly. Now we're bringing SimCity into the future making the same mistakes."

Honestly this future stuff looks pretty cool. They might have been able to spin it off into a whole new game that fixes all the original's issues.

But of course $$$ takes priority as always.

I don't think they could considering there's still a ton of really bad bugs in the core systems in the vanilla.

This is a joke right? This should be free(getting people buying and playing again). I think they should just kill the game and work on a new one, more like Sim City 2000. I mean... this game is 'dead in the water' right? I hope people don't buy this....

Honestly, I don't think the new SimCity was ever trying to be like 1-4. A more accurate analogue would be Sim Societies, which I actually rather enjoyed, even though I didn't end up logging as many hours in it as 2000. If they had called this Sim Societies 2, fewer people would be upset, and releasing new tile-sets would make more sense. Kind of reminds me of that Bombcast discussion over whether Doom 3 should have been called Doom 3 or, more recently, whether or not BioShock 2 would have had a warmer reception with a slightly different name.

SimCity is easily the biggest video game letdown I have ever experienced. I can't believe I spent $79.99 on the Digital Deluxe edition. This expansion does look neat, but I don't think I can justify giving them more money for this game, especially $30.00 more.

They should just work on making the next game, and focus on fixing what people didn't like instead of making this. As much as I like the futuristic aesthetics, it's not enough to make me go back into their mediocre game.

They should probably fix all of the problems people have with this game before they try to charge them more money. The original purchase wasn't even worth it, why would I spend 50% more on this game.

Knew they did themed city ideas like this in previous SimCity games & while this looks pretty, after seeing the video it's all I'll need. Maybe once they do a collected version of all the expansions plus the main SimCity game it might be worth it if they fixed all the problems with it.

Wut? You mean the expansion for the pretty casual focused city building simulator should wait more than 2 weeks after the big military competitive multiplayer shooter comes out? I don't even...

(PS: Following your logic, Call of duty is the much bigger threat.)

No fan of the series wanted a futuristic reskin. They want city-sized plots of land.

I will not say the game "needs bigger cities" like most people, because that would be admitting the space we were given qualifies as a city. The game can spit out statistics however it wants. Oh, I have 100,000 people all living within a 1.5 mile radius from one another? I don't care what you say, that's not a city.

(Stuff deleted)

tall, and it's an office building that even gets close to that height. Almost everyone has a house.

There is nothing even remotely special about the city I live in, but you couldn't fit even 10% of what it does have into a single city section of Sim City.

Yes i quite agree with you thats why simcity 4 and lower will always be superior to the travesty that is simcity today.

A city CAN have densely populated sections like that, such as New York City, but that would be just a small section of NYC. That's what this game is: Sim City Section. Spend a couple of hours, max out you allotted city section, then make another! Watch and marvel how the two struggle to interact.

No room for a school in your two populated city sections? No problem, make a third city section that is almost nothing but schools!

Why stop there? A fourth city section could be almost exclusively Police and Fire for the other three city sections that can't spare the space! When a fire breaks out, this city section can respond quickly in mere hours, provided that the A.I. traffic system is functioning properly. With Emergency Services City Section, potentially city-section-wide fires can be contained to only a couple of blocks, preserving the remaining 65% of your City-Section!

I live in a city of around 60,000 people. We have at least six fire stations and several police departments. Six elementary schools and two high schools. We have a State University college in the middle of the city. We have a small airport. We even made room for parks, malls, and more. We had space left over to even create our own Water and Light and Garbage Dump. You must think we all must live in 25 story apartment buildings to make room for all our stuff! Nope. We don't have a single building that tall, and it's an office building that even gets close to that height. Almost everyone has a house.

There is nothing even remotely special about the city I live in, but you couldn't fit even 10% of what it does have into a single city section of Sim City.

Those future cities look cool, but....there are still all the issues inherit to vanilla SimCity. Give us bigger cities; offline play; and fix those traffic bugs, then watch the profits soar.

Also, lol @ Control Net. Sounds like SkyNet to me. But I did like the delivery drones. Someone needs to hurry up and make those happen IRL. I know they exist!!

Instead of fixing the engine, by making it work on actual cities, they just add more crap on top of these villages ?

I don't want to live in this future; where nearly everything I need is contained in one building, and anything that is not, gets delivered by drones. I have a hard enough time getting out of the house on the weekends as it is now.
