We Finally Know How Quantum Break Actually Plays

Yeah, I still want a new Alan Wake, but this looks pretty damn cool, too.

I finally got to watch this. Looks pretty cool. I'm wondering how far they actually go with the time manipulation and frozen world aspects in gameplay (besides just shooting guys and making explosions), but what they showed still seems pretty neat. I'm not going to buy an Xbox One just to play it, but it still looks nice.

Maybe it'll end up like Alan Wake and come to PC two years later.

The video description is a little...pretentious man, not everyone cares about what you want, patrick. But this game really does look hellof promising.

Really, you're complaining about that? People care less about your opinion. Are you hired by a Top 10 Online Gaming Property? No. Chill.

haha I come to this site more for the personalities than anything else. Keep your opinions flowing, @PatrickKlepek.

Dude, check yourself. I started playing games in '86 with a NES. The fact that its been almost 30 years and we're still climbing steps to enter a battle arena that spawns a boss that the player is strafing around to shoot is fucking tired.

Seriously dude what the hell is going on. Check out this little gem below. Some sort of new generation of pissy gaming hipsters or something.

It's a gameplay reveal trailer. They are going to show an action scene. It's a video game, there is going to be boss battles. They did the same shit with alan wake but you wouldn't really call it a 3rd person action shooter would you.

Not sure exactly what you expect to see here.

Looks like they'll have to make the player fairly fragile to balance the quick recharge on time manipulation. Firefights might be a real joke if you could sprint through a bunch of frozen enemies and instakill them with a melee prompt, taking just a few seconds' worth of cover every now and then.

Something about the way this demo was being played seemed clunky. Like whoever was playing it was messing up a bit, unintentionally going off script in an awkward way.

Probably just me though, I am quite excited for this game.

I kinda like the fact that whoever was controlling was messing up with the aiming so it didn't come off as really scripted.

I also like the time breaking mechanics and the screen effect they used when its activated as well as the sound design and the fact that its not ultra violent (e.g. having lots of blood splatter and gore with every gun shot hit). I'm digging it. I wanna see a 60fps, 1440p version of this demo now though since the video quality I feel isn't doing it much justice visually.

EDIT: Also to the people commenting on this being a "boss fight", I feel like this wasn't even a real boss fight but more like its just introducing a new enemy type for the first time.

Despite thinking Alan Wake was merely OK, I still like Remedy. But man, I was hoping for a lot more than just 8 minutes of cover-based combat, complete with exploding red barrels and a slowdown mechanic, with a bit of stopping the environment for no particular reason thrown in. I still definitely want to see more of this game but I'm really not interested in just another cover shooter. Remedy's capable of so much more than that. My hope is that they just wanted to show the "mainstream appeal" of this game here and they'll go into a lot more detail later on. I'm happy for the game to have cover-based combat, just as long as that's not all it has.

How is everyone not mentioning how poor the framerate is on this?

Are we expected to put up with this for another 7 years? This should be "NEXT GEN" people! 1080p and 60fps at the least!?

Such a shame.

This seems like a logical progression for Max Payne. I can see how you could chain multiple kills with the time stop mechanic and clear a room in seconds. I see a lot of potential here if they really go all out with the time mechanics. More new games, bring it on!

Also, what is up with GB's comments sections? Every video is the same sarcastic, cynical, snide torrent of comments about every single thing. Come on people, liven up a bit. Leave that stuff for Alex.

Seems like the married the darkness mechanic from Alan Wake with the time bending from bullet time. Looks nice. Hopefully Sam Lake can pen another story as good as Alan Wake to go with it. The concept of bending and controlling time is as fertile ground as nightmares for good pulpy stories so I'm hopeful =)

That is some of the most stale-looking gunplay I've seen in a really long time. If it weren't for the time manipulation to prop it up, I would be hella concerned for this game.

Oh good it's a cover shooter.... coming exclusively to the $20 bin. The mechanics look like they might be somewhat fun in an FPS but I can feel the unsatisfying controls. Feel them through the screen.

@soapiestpenguin: Yup. I totally get the third person shooter fatigue but with Remedy it's the stuff surrounding that core mechanic that makes it so interesting. This time distortion stuff looks real cool.

The thing that kills some of my enthusiam (and this might just be the guy playing) is it looks like more of a cover shooter than a more over-the-top John Woo style shooter that most people want out of Remedy.

But the cover system seems less like Gears and more like the new Tomb Raider, which worked great in my opinion, so maby this will too.

towards the end, does he stop time while time is already stopped? Those armored dudes can move during whatever that anomaly is, but he is still able to use his powers to stop them?

I do like that the shooting seems a bit more toned down though, its 'nice' to see a gun fight that doesn't include fountains of blood or limbs flying all over the place.
