Damn Ryan did exceptionally well. He didn't rush through, he picked up the timing with the combat really quickly and beat the Taurus Demon on his 2nd try. It took me far, far longer to get through the area and maybe 4 times to beat the boss.

This was great! Infuriating at some parts (they tell you what souls do at the item description screen, and no one seemed to have found out that enemies sometimes give you humanity as well as souls), but great.

I dare not dream that I'll ever see more of this though.

I never wanted to play Dark Souls. Now I totally want to play Dark Souls. Thanks, jerks.

I still think it's crazy that people say that barely anything in this game is explained, when almost everything you need to know is told to you in item descriptions. It's like someone saying that Battlefield doesn't explain anything because there's not a tutorial for the M16.

Ryan beating that boss and the crowd cheering reallllly makes me want to pick up Dark Souls. I feel like I need to go back and finish Demon's Souls first tho.

You can do it man. I spent the last two days and maybe 20 tries but I finally beat those two mother fuckers. Don't quit now because as soon as you beat those guys you get the ability to warp between bonfires.

GRAPHICS: TIE

Image quality on both platforms is ostensibly identical, while performance is an apples and pears situation. Neither the 360 or PS3 version can definitively claim to have an absolute edge here.

It appears a post-processing filter running on the PS3 version is affecting the clarity of certain text elements, such as the Estus Flask notification in the bottom-left of the screen. As with most filters working indiscriminately across the whole frame, text and HUD elements often get caught in the line of fire, although it really only seems to have affected the text in this case. On very close zoom, this filter is also the likely cause of a very subtle softening to the definition of distant textures not evident on 360. These are nitpicks more than anything, and are only evident when closely scrutinized next to images of the rival version.

PERFORMANCE: 360

Interestingly, destroying multiple crates or urns – a physics-based task which should favour the PS3′s more powerful CPU – incurs frame-rate drops down to 25FPS, while, the 360 version typically gets away unscathed.

During the boss fight demonstrated in the video below, however, destruction physics on the asylum columns have a dramatic impact on both consoles, with the PS3 version even nose-diving down to 10FPS for a spell. On the flip-side, Microsoft’s console appears to have its own specific issue with the volumetric fog used in the doorway barriers, which is unusual given that this should be handled by its more proficient GPU.

Dark Souls’ liability to drop frames in this fashion is made evident much earlier on, with the combination of multiple assailing enemies and a fire-breathing wyvern in one sequence consistently causing drops to under 10FPS on both consoles. Also considerable is the way each version takes a jarring hit during actions involving particle effects, such as lighting bonfires, exploding fire bombs, and bleeding out from a series of arrow strikes, with the PS3 shedding a few more frames in like-for-like cases.

I've never rewatched content, but Ryan's Taurus Demon run was PRICELESS! Great theater!

Yeah besides learning getting the stamina regen down he did pretty well, it always kinda bothered me the stance he took on these games I hope he keeps going.

This has really made me want to go back to Dark Souls but I need to study....

The only skill he lacks is knowing when to drop his shield to regenerate some stamina. Sometimes even a quarter second of faster stamina regeneration will get you enough to block the next hit in a chain of attacks.

God damn it. This won me over for Dark Souls. I'm gonna Gamefly it. I know myself, and I don't have the patience required, but I'm gonna do my best.

Weird to hear how many different ways people play it. Like how Vinny did every boss in co-op and how the others just grinded tons of levels so they destroyed everything in a few hits.

I liked the nice little treat at the end. it made watching all 4 hours of at even better.

I had a tough time with Demon's Souls and then I forgot about my pre-order for Dark Souls CE, which is still sitting here sealed. This video and the fact I have the strat guide as well really make me want to open it and try, but man...I'm worried. It's almost more fun watching someone else's triumphs and failures in this world.

i skimmed and read this before I came to that part in the video. When "Hollow Soldier Shield" flashed on the screen, i thought that maybe, just maybe, this time Ryan would equip it. You never know. Maybe this time it will be different. But it never is.
