    Overview

The Water Temple is the sixth main dungeon in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and the third explored as adult Link. It is located at the bottom of Lake Hylia. Link comes here to find and awaken Princess Ruto as a sage and bring water back to the lake.

The Water Temple has gained notoriety for its complexity, involving puzzles that revolve around changing the level of the dungeon's water between three different settings. To properly explore the dungeon, the player must have both the blue tunic, which allows Link to breath underwater, and the iron boots, which allow him to walk along the bottom of submerged areas. However, this aspect of the dungeon's exploration required the player to frequently enter menu screens in order to equip and unequip the boots in order to transition between being able to walk under water and to float.

The dungeon also features a miniboss in Dark Link, a recurring enemy of the franchise. The dungeon's boss is Morpha, a tentacle creature made of water.

    Ocarina of Time 3D

In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, the touch screen interface and adjusted menus allow the player to equip and unequip the iron boots on the fly without having to go to the equipment sub-screen. The tedious nature of navigating menus to put on and take off the boots in the original N64 version was cited during development as being a prime example of how the new menu interface would improve the gameplay.
