Back in the 80's and 90's, it was much more common to outsource Western IP's to Japanese developers. The other way around was less common, with the exception being British developers, such as Ocean Software which produced licensed computer game sequels to arcade games from Japan, while others like Rare and Argonaut worked on outsourced Nintendo IP's. Since the late 2000s, it has become increasingly more common for Japanese IP's to be outsourced to Western developers.
