The Nintendo Wii is a home video game console released on November 19, 2006. The Wii's main selling point was the innovative use of motion controls that its signature Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers allowed for. It became the best selling home console of its respective generation of hardware.

So glad there's another thread about how the average perception of the Wii is wrong. It's been about 10 hours since I saw the last one. Keep fighting the fight.

Who are "you guys" and who are "us"?" @HandsomeDead said:

@Godwind: It's a brilliant piece, but we've all read it before, or at least those who care. Maybe if you offered some sort of opinion or critique there might be more responses. You can't just post a link and expect good discussion.
" Im the best at streetfighter 4 ! "You pretty much have 60 posts like this one, your just trolling
Wow, that was a long but interesting read. He makes a lot of good points, but I'm curious to see how Nintendo plans on pushing further upstream without hitting a ceiling.
Hehe one point the writer was wrong on is that he said there was no Wii Sports 2. Strange that he'd miss a step on something like that when most of his stuff is well-researched and backed up.
PS: People might have given more of a shit had you given more of your own thoughts on the article rather than just linking to it ;)
It's a pretty ancient article. The dude's a fanboy judging some of his other material I've seen elsewhere but he makes plenty of common sense in this. Too bad most developers have yet to realise a lot of this but at least Japan has shifted some of its workforce into quality Wii titles we can enjoy."Hehe one point the writer was wrong on is that he said there was no Wii Sports 2."

Speak for yourself trolly, not everyone likes ass games (really, it depends on the ass, any random one won't do for everyone), and plenty sensible multiplatform owners around here enjoy the Wii's many great games. It's your loss if you can't look beyond your random asses really, but I won't force you into anything and you shouldn't force your trolling into these forums either. Thanks and good luck with your future posting."@ThomasP: "you guys" are Wii fanboys, and "us" are people that like to play normal ass games, minus all the lame gimmicks."
" I read it years ago, it was stupid then it's stupid now. It also became the symbol of Wii fanboyism in my eyes. Don't try to force others to enjoy what you enjoy. "Unfortunately that is a double edged sword, you have just as many people telling others to stop enjoying Wii games as you do those telling people to give them a chance... honestly both sides are really annoying.
" @ThomasP: "you guys" are Wii fanboys, and "us" are people that like to play normal ass games, minus all the lame gimmicks. "Oh, I didn't know Godwind was multiple people. I also didn't realize you spoke for the entire 360 / PS3 community... where people play "normal ass games" and don't use gimmicks like motion control... waitt a second.
This article is going to great lengths to explain a phenomenon that anyone who is into video games is already aware of. He just uses terms he learned in some junior college econ class in place of "casual", and then tries to tell me that "casual" doesn't exist. It does exist. You've just now defined it, albeit with a different name.
I guess I just don't see the point of this article or why it's being used to convince people not to dislike the Wii. It's endlessly discussing obvious fucking platitudes about the industry, as though explaining things I already know but slower is going to make me learn it more or something. And somehow this is supposed to change the fact that I don't like the way Wii games control or that I find a lot of these games to be uninteresting? You're not going to change someone's preference with a logical argument because preferences aren't logical. It's like telling someone who doesn't like orange juice that orange juice is nutritious. It's definitely true, but that guy still doesn't like oranges.
I know what the Wii is there for. I can appreciate some (but far from all) of the popular games on the platform. I still don't want to play them. If this is just an argument against people claiming that casual games are "bad" in absolute terms, then I guess it makes sense. Regardless of argument, it's absolutely ridiculous that this guy wrote a 20-page research paper because people on the Internet were talking bad about his video game console.
tl;dr Pretty much this:

However, a lot the software sales for the Wii for the so called "casual gamers" directly linked to hardware pack-ins.
Wii Sports- The Wii itself.
Wii Play- A Wii Remote
Wii Fit- A balance Board
Mario Kart Wii- A Steering Wheel Shell
Link's Crossbow Training- A Zapper
Animal Crossing: City Folk - Wii Speak
Wii Sports Resort- Motion Plus
Wii Music is the weakest in the series in terms of sales. Much of the other stuff (such as mario, zelda and metroid) would already sell well thanks to long time returning fanbase.
He talks a lot more than what he's been putting in his article. He's actually talking more about the industry as a whole rather than just the Wii.
