German Nintendo magazine "N-Zone" went to Paris to pay Ubisoft a visit. They got to play a combat demo of Red Steel 2, and talked with Ubi's Jason Vandenberghe about the game, and MotionPlus in general. I don't have a scanner at my disposal and I don't feel like translating six pages of text, so a low res camera pic and a summary of the new info will have to suffice for now.
I don't know if any of the screens they have are new or if they're the same that were already posted from that other magazine. If there are new ones, I can make a larger picture by request.
[[There are supposed to be images here, but somehow giantbomb refuses to let me upload them at the moment]]
THE INFORMATION
- The game was build for MotionPlus from Day 1. M+ is definatly required to play the game.
- There is a news embargo by Nintendo regarding MotionPlus, which has now been partially lifted. We are to expect announcements of more Wii titles in June, including more titles that work exclusively with M+.
- The combat seen in the leaked preview tailer is exactly what you're going to get. Attacking, defending and showing off with the sword is controlled exclusively and delicately by the motion of your arm. Button presses are only required for your firearm.
- For strong hits you need to execute a forceful blow. Little movements or waggle will have no effect. You can, however, change the relation of your real-world force to the ingame-force. (i.e. MotionPlus sensitivity)
- RPG elements for character buildup
- upgradable weapons
- Inventory is somehow gesture-based
- Five areas in the final game, only one (the desert one) has been shown so far
- the story has no relation whatsoever to the first game. also, the story was not given priority in development.
- 15 different enemy types
- 30% linear, 70% "free roaming" levels, whatever that means.
- 6 enemies on screen at max
- 10 hour single player, no multiplayer
- "if you want lots of details, you have to buy a 360 game." ~Vanderberghe
- There will be boss battles
- A significant amount of the play time will be spend swordfighting
- no blood
So there you go. Doesn't sound too bad so far, does it?
They also said to expect a lot of MotionPlus-related news in the coming weeks. :)
