Alright, so I've been whoring Wolverine for the past few days.  Once you've beaten the game, you have to option to replay any chapter that you've already played to continue the progress of your Wolvie character (i.e. XP, leveling up, increasing your combat reflexes, etc)...basically to be an achievement whore.  It's nice that they did this...especially since Bionic Commando does NOT let you go for the achievements in the Level Jump option (the bastards).

Four of the achievements that I was SUPER close to finishing were "Fully Loaded", "Samurai", "Boomerang" and "Devil's Brigade".  In order to get these achievements, you have to:
    • Fully Loaded - Obtain all upgrades (such as claw damage, etc...done by leveling up)
    • Samurai - Maxed out all Combat Reflexes to master level (there are five reflexes that you build up from just killing enemies under that type)
    • Boomerang - Kill 25 enemies by deflecting their rockets at them (I had 19/25)
    • Devil's Brigade - Find all the Dog Tags (little collectibles...I was at 77/95)

Well, there is ANOTHER achievement called "Walking Death" where you need to beat the game on the Hard difficulty...which is locked until you play through the game once...which is bullshit right off the bat.

Well, I needed to finish out two more levels on Wolverine, about half a bar on the reflexes for Machetes/Robots/Jungle Mutants, and get 18 more Dog Tags.  The reflexes were taking FOREVER to farm on Chapter 3 (where all three of these enemy types occur the most).  So, I thought like most RPG gamers would think:

"Hey, maybe if I play through the game on Hard difficulty, I'll get more XP and combat reflex from the enemies since it's a harder difficulty"

Now, I have a Hard save game going...and I'm at Level 3...with no Dog Tags...no Combat Reflexes...nothing.  All the kills...all the Dog Tags...all gone.

Starting over on Hard mode saves over ALL your information from before.  It DOES give you a prompt saying that you'll lose save progress, but my assumption was that they would be saving over my ability to replay missions...NOT TAKE AWAY EVERYTHING I JUST FINISHED WORKING MY ASS OFF FOR!!!  I would've even been fine with going back to Level 1...if I could've held on to my 19 Boomerang kills and my 77 Dog Tags.  The Combat Reflexes and Upgrades didn't take that long to get where they were, I guess...and on Hard, it seems to be moving the Reflexes along much quicker...although the XP level doesn't seem THAT much different.

I'm fucking cheesed right now, man.  FUCKING     CHEESED!  This is the stupidest design I've seen in a game.  Why would you lock the Hard difficulty mode from the start WHEN YOU ARE GOING TO START ME OVER ANYWAYS...and then when I want to play on a more difficult setting, you take away everything I just spent about 7 hours of gameplay time collecting?!

So this is a warning post to all the achievement whores looking to bust ass on this mediocre game for another S-rank:  DO NOT START ON HARD UNTIL YOU'VE FARMED ALL THE OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS!!!  You'll be at least level 37 before you get all the upgrades, and the Combat Reflexes mean you'll just need to play Chapter 3 a FUCKLOAD!!!

*EDIT*  Hard doesn't save over ALL your information, actually.  I got to keep the three costumes I unlocked.  -_-  Because they help...

What the hell did you think would happen? You yourself said there was a warning message before you proceeded.

Sorry, but it was a pretty silly move on your part considering this game hardly qualifies as an RPG.

It said it would save over the save progress, which I ASSUMED would mean it would save over the ability to replay missions.  I figured that only meant it would save over my levels gained and maybe the combat reflexes, which was cool.  I could get those back just playing through the game anyways.  I busted to level 30 on one playthrough on Normal, so it's not like that would be anything tough to achieve.  I didn't expect it to save over the Dog Tags I collected or the Boomerang kills, as those are working towards achievements.  It just seemed silly for them to do something like THAT!!!

Yeah.  I gotta play through Hard anyways for the Walking Death achievement, so I'll just be building back up towards it.  You can guarantee I'm going to have the Rooster Teeth Achievement Hunter videos for Devil's Brigade right next to me this time though, as I'm going to get all the Dog Tags on this run through.  lol

It's either this or WoW.  With this, I at least get some variety in my games.

Tonight, however, I think I'm going to be jamming out on the Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged and Xbox Live Arcade Compilation discs that we've got.  That's 11 games with 200 points a pop.  Which games?
    • Bejeweled 2
    • Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved (which I know I can at least get to 500,000 on based on my playtime with the Wii version)
    • Wik: Fable of Souls
    • Texas Hold'em Poker
    • Outpost Kaloki X
    • Hardwood Backgammon
    • PAC-MAN Championship Edition
    • UNO
    • Feeding Frenzy
    • Boom Boom Rocket (which I loved the first time I played it)
    • Luxor 2

So...it's going to be a LOOONG night.

I got every achievement except Walking Death, Devil's Brigade, and the one you get on the Blob level.  I tried going for that last one but i think it glitched because i destroyed everything i didn't get it.  I can easily collect all the dog tags while playing through on hard so that's not too much trouble.

Too bad my 360 is bricked though. :(

"Clean Up On All Aisles" glitched for me the first time as well.  I went back and did it a second time, and I got it.  Then again, part of my brain keeps struggling with whether I destroyed EVERYTHING on the walls at the front of the store or not.  Then again, in running around for almost 7 minutes and looking closely for stuff...you would think I would notice.  =  /

Good thing achievements are stupid as hell and I don't one bit about them, but when I rented Wolverine, I assumed that was what happened when it said you're stuff will be overwritten. I got my money's worth out of it anyway, so I was still happy.

I'm actually planning to zip through it on medium and do all the upgrading stuff on hard.  It's more fun to be all badass killing guys who are harder.  That's the same reason I upgraded everything in Insane difficulty in Dead Space.  It just gets boring when there's absolutely no challenge.

What he probably meant is that your post did not bring anything constructive or relevant to the conversation. Which is the case.

that being said, it IS a design flaw. That kind of error should be mentionned before you start a game or something, like a warning. But hey, at least now we now. thanks for the heads-up.

@jakob187: Yep same thing happened to me. Instead of getting the trophies I would have collected, I gave up. I like X-Men Origins but, well, replay value is low. Especially when you're reset to a basic Wolverine.

Well, the Xbox Live Arcade Compilation one comes with new Xbox 360 Lites.  The Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged is available at retail and such.  There's quite a few compilation discs for Arcade games.  If I could find one that happened to have...oh...Castlevania: SOTN, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Braid, and Geometry Wars 2...that would be FUCKING AWESOME!!!  Then again, it would be awesome if John Bonham and Keith Moon were risen from the dead and put against each other in a drum battle to the re-death.  =  /

Thanks for reminding me that I sold my copy of Dead Space without getting two of the 10 point achievements and the 150 point one for finishing it on Impossible.  =* (  Now I gotta rebuy it...or rent it...or something...

Also, I plugged in the Arcade comps last night.  Wik & The Fable of Souls is retarded, I'm apparently no good at Geometry Wars anymore (couldn't even get Pacifism even though I've gotten it on lansharx58 before with NO problems...first try), and Bejeweled 2 had my number ALL night.  Bullshit.  THEREFORE, I've decided to pick up a game that I never did go too far in:  Star Wars - The Force Unleashed.  Hopefully, that amazing guide here on Giant Bomb will come in handy.  = D
