They aren't even in design phase for a new xbox. We won't even get an announcement for a new console from MS for 2-3 years or so. THe thing about this kinect thing is that they are trying to get a new audience for it. They aren't going after a lot of the people that own one already. They want the casual gamer. Unless of course you like mini games in the vein of the Wii, in which case, you should pony up and spend $150 for it. But at that point, why not buy a Wii that does something similar as far as game play goes and have access to Nintendo's library and all of the games that are coming out for it. Here's my take: I would buy a Wii for the new Zelda, SMG2, Metroid, and GoldenEye. I'm not remotely excited about any of the 15 announced games for the Kinect.

A new XBox would flop, economy isn't doing good.  The next generation needs to provide something new after HD gaming, and it ain't 3D.

I think they have too much marketing behind Kinetic for it to fully flop.

Well the assumption is that kinect won't flop, Microsoft is really hammering the Wii demographic, and with this new Xbox 360, a lot of people will probably end up getting both.

Keep in mind, Kinect is getting a harsh opinion on game websites because it's a casual product. I will be surprised if it flops since they did such an excessive job of advertising it.

My guess is a new Xbox is 2012 & Kineck won't fail but won't have the sales M$ is hoping for.

no, they won't release a new xbox 360 if kinect flops. they will just act like it never happened. if they do release a new system then it will end up like the dreamcast. i don't think nintendo or sony have plans on releasing a new system. sony just came out with their motion controls also.

no, even if it totally fails, a year is not long enough to develop a new console from scratch. They might begin to work on a new one/announce it, but it wont come out next year.

It's Microsoft.  There will be another one, but not next year.

I doubt Microsoft is gonna sit there and be like "man no one is buying Kinect, well lets scrap this and move on to the xbox 720", it would cost way too much money, a more likely response would be to cut the Kinect price(like sub $80), just like Sony did with the $600 ps3.

If Kinect fails I think that we will see a new Xbox sooner than not, because it will be more powerful and also have more options, that will offer something more conventional motion controls.

Yea cuz I wanna pay $200 to replay Heavy Rain with more controllers after it's patched. I think the idea of motion controls for hardcore games is silly. sweet instead of my 1:1 regular controller let me use these 2 sometimes unrelaible motion controllers.
 
idc that Kinect has no games. it has more uses than just games and if it gets integrated into windows somehow thats a win. depending on the CPU they end up putting into Kinect it can handle any number of people. it is actually limitless. 
 
but i still am looking for an xbox console info release around E3 2012, about the time Sony gives us PS3 people party chat. especially if Kinect flops. the gen is over for them. the 360 is at its limits. it will be time to look forward.

We won't be seeing a new system anytime soon.

Kinect is already being heavily advertised at places like Gamestop.  Microsoft is really starting to push the marketing for it, so it's likely to attract at least a casual audience, though how large a casual audience exists for the 360 market, I have no idea.

There's no reason for them to make another console yet. Give it another 4 years or so.

It's strange that they're supporting the 360 for this long considering the Originally Xbox just had a short 4 year cycle before they totally dropped support for it. However, it seems like there won't be a new Xbox announcement until around E3 2012 maybe?

I don't think that a new xbox would be released next year just because of kinect possibly failing. It'd be sweet if they announced they were working on a new xbox at next years E3 though.
