On Monday they streamed around an hour of unseen gameplay with the developers. It looks great and is pretty faithful to the original games.

Hour long gameplay with developers
Love this sort of meat and potatoes gameplay showing.
Game mechanics are looking sweet.
But the camera work during mission seems a bit hectic and a bit too much busywork just to get a simple LoS reading as well as iffy cinematic shots, they could do some more work on that.
Looks like they just got a preorder out of me. Beware the alien, the mutant, the heretic and all that.
I already liked the Firaxis presence on GB's E3 streams but this was very cool too. Thanks for posting the thread and reminding me of the video. I'm still pretty prejudiced towards dev or publisher controlled material since it can be intolerably full of shit or inevitably exceptionally biased at least. But this stuff is just straight up fun to watch and informative. I'm really looking forward to the game a lot.
Can you use your mod powers and make this game come out sooner?Looking good.
Also, watching these guys struggle with what to say and do during their own quick look makes me appreciate how skilled the Giant Bomb guys are at producing content like this.
@Extreme_Popcorn: Hey, thanks for the link! The PAX streams archived on Twitch from 2k Games have a ton of X-COM footage too. I've learned more about Enemy Unknown watching these dudes play and talk strategy than I have from anything else I've seen for the game.

@1 hour 12 minutes: Xbox System Link Multiplayer on a Cemetary map.
@3 hours 37 minutes: X-COM Enemy Unknown PAX 2012 Panel
In case someone has trouble with twitch, here is a youtube version:
Thanks for more vids fellas, the PC interface was a joy to behold really digging the old style position indicator.
Camera is still fucked tho, they even seem to be aware of it's messed up nature, hope there are dudes working on it before release and they aren't just going to leave that mess in, don't want the game to be critricized by mainstream press due to simple issues like this :/
Well that stream just sold me on this game. I've been very hesitant of it so far, but after watching that stream I'm really excited to play it.

Yeah, it's pretty sweet.
I gotta say for a while i was considering playing this on a controller with my PC, because they seemed to have done great controls for that too.
But having that grid-selection booth is now a MUST!
Seems somewhat easy compared to the original, which you can buff by turning up the difficulty I can imagine, so no big deal. And damn soldiers can move far on their turns. But it overall it looks soooooo good, I've been waiting so many years for this game.

I don't think i have ever had such a dramatic shift in an opinion of a game as I have had watching the archived footage of the game and the guys talking about it. I was luke warm this morning, and now I can not wait for October. I promised myself I would only buy one new game until i finish my pile of shame (or at least dent it) and today I totally cancelled my Borderlands 2 pre-order for an XCOM preorder. I am so pumped, this game is right up my alley.
Some of the camera footage can be really walking on certain angles during the firing animation, hah.
@NinesSC2: Yes, there are difficulty settings. I'm actually considering going above the normal setting, perhaps that'll make for a more exciting experience even though I might fail hard at first. Games are never fun when they are too easy, however they can be a lot of fun when they're tough as it'll bring some more sense of accomplishment.
Also, I have to resist the urge of Quick Saving/Quick Reloading if a soldier gets killed. That and the added difficulty setting should make things interesting.
