    Overview

    A RIG, which stands for Resource Integration Gear, is an exosuit worn by many people in the Dead Space universe. From a game play perspective, the purpose of a RIG is provide a no-HUD experience for the player, showing all of the vital information on the suit itself, such as health, stasis energy, and oxygen levels. The RIG also is a mechanic for inventory management, with different types of RIGs having more slots for items.

    The RIG also has built in communications capabilities, which include a holographic projector for audio visual communications as well as video playback, a regular audio communication system, and a text display projection. RIGs also provide armor for the user, if the RIG model has a built in exoskeleton.

    Types of RIGs

    In addition to the standard life bar heath indicator found all members of the Ishimura and Aegis 7 colonists, there are several types of RIGs specifically designed for various tasks.

    Dead Space

    Standard Engineer RIG


    The Level 1 Standard Engineer RIG is the player's starting RIG. In the Dead Space universe, this RIG is a simple suit worn by personnel who may be required to work in hazardous areas, such as an engineer.

    Standard Miner RIG


    The Level 2 Standard Miner RIG is the upgrade version of the first RIG in the game. The Miner RIG has a certain amount of built in armor since a miner might encounter hostile conditions while working.

    Intermediate Engineer RIG


    The Level 3 Intermediate Engineer RIG is the third RIG that the player has access to, and is perhaps the best known of the RIGs since it was used in all of the Dead Space promotional material. The suit has a bulkier appearance due to the amount of armor attached to the RIG. In the Dead Space universe, this suit is issued to Class 4 Engineers.

    Intermediate Miner RIG


    The Level 4 Intermediate Miner RIG is the fourth RIG that player has access to. The RIG is given to Class Miners, who on asteroids. This RIG is much bulkier in appearance due to its extra armor, although this extra bulk has no effect on movement speed.

    Advanced Engineer RIG


    The Level 5 Advanced Engineer RIG is the fifth and final RIC that the player has access to. In Dead Space lore, such and advanced RIG is only available to high ranking engineers, and only if said engineers have completed multiple repairs in hazardous environments, and passed a training program.

    Advanced Soldier RIG


    The Level 6 Soldier RIG is only available to players who have beaten the game, and start a new game plus. Unlike the engineering and mining RIGs worn throughout the main game, the Soldier RIG's express purpose is to provide protection, and has more standard armor. Also, instead of being brown and gray like the other RIGs, the Soldier RIG is stark white, with a black jumpsuit worn underneath.

    Dead Space 2

    RIGs in Dead Space 2 see several improvements over those found in the last game. Helmets now fold away into hidden compartments automatically, making it easier for the wearer to expose or cover their face quickly. The stasis reserve will slowly refill by itself overtime. Thrusters have been added around the suits to allow for full movement in zero gravity. Whatever RIG is equipped will take on the highest armor and inventory properties of any suit purchased.

    Engineering Suit

    The Engineering suit is the first available RIG upgrade in Dead Space 2. Resembling the RIGs from the original, it is intended for use by engineers in hazardous environments. It can be found in the first shop. It has 5% armor, a 10 slot inventory, and no special bonuses.

    Security Suit

    The Security Suit is the second RIG available. Made for use by Security guards this suit is armored for damage protection. It has 10% armor, 15 inventory slots, and a 5% bonus to pulse rifle. damage The schematic can be found in Chapter 4.

    Vintage Suit

    The Vintage Suit is the third available RIG. Though less advanced, this bulky RIG offers greater protection than most modern counterparts. It has15% armor, 20 inventory, and gives player a 10% discount at stores. The schematic can be found in Chapter 8.

    Advanced Suit

    The Advanced Suit is the forth and final RIG available on the first play through. This cutting edge suit has yet to be made available to the market and is only in prototype form. It has 20% armor, 25 inventory slots, and reduces stasis recharge time by 50%. The schematic can be found in Chapter 11.

    Riot Security Suit

    The Riot Security Suit is only available after loading a cleared save file. It is a variation of the Security Suit with 25% armor, 25 inventory slots, and a 10% bonus to contact beam damage. It can be found at the first store.

    Elite Engineering Suit

    The Elite Engineering suit is only available in new game plus. It is a variation of the Engineering Suit with 25% armor, 25 inventory slots, and a 15% bonus to medpack heals. The schematic can be found in Chapter 1.

    Elite Vintage Suit

    The Elite Vintage suit is only available in new game plus. It is a variation of the Vintage Suit with 25% armor, 25 inventory slots, and a 15% discount at stores. The schematic can be found in Chapter 6.

    Elite Security Suit

    The Elite Security suit is only available in new game plus. It is a variation of the Security Suit with 25% armor, 25 inventory slots, and a 15% bonus to Javelin Gun damage. The schematic can be found in Chapter 9.

    Elite Advanced Suit

    The Elite Advanced suit is only available in new game plus. It is a variation of the Advanced Suit with 25% armor, 25 inventory slots, a 10% bonus to all weapon damage, and a 15% increase to stasis duration. The schematic can be found in Chapter 11.

    Arctic Security Suit

    The Arctic Security suit is only available after loading a cleared save file of a game beat on Zealot difficulty. It is a variation of the Security Suit with 25% armor, 25 inventory slots, and a 10% bonus to Flamethrower damage. It can be found in the first store. The Arctic theme of the suit along with it's flamethrower preference is likely a reference to the 1982 horror movie "The Thing".

    Soldier Suit

    The Soldier suit is only available after loading a cleared save file of a game beat on Hardcore difficulty. It is a variation of the Security Suit with 25% armor, 25 inventory slots, and a 10% bonus to Seeker Rifle damage. It can be found in the first store.

    Zealot Suit

    The Zealot suit is only available to players who purchased the Collector's Edition of the game. It is a variation of the Security Suit with 15% armor, 15 inventory slots, and a 5% bonus to Force Gun damage. It can be found in the first store.

    Hacker Suit

    The Hacker suit is only available to players with a Dead Space: Ignition saved game. Cobbled together, this suit consist of normal clothes with key areas armor padded and a strapped on mask. It has 15% armor, 15 inventory slots, and shortens hacking sequences by one stage. The schematic can be found in Chapter 2.

    Advanced Hazard Engineer RIG: Elite Class

    The Advanced Hazard Engineer RIG: Elite Class, also known as the Elite Suit is only available for the Xbox 360 for 240 MS Points.

    Advanced Hazard Engineer RIG: Obsidian Class

    The Advanced Hazard Engineer RIG: Obsidian Class, usually referred to as the Obsidian Suit, was released as downloadable content exclusive for the PlayStation 3 for $1.50.

    Standard Astronaut RIG

    The Standard Astronaut RIG, sometimes called the Astro Suit, was available for both PlaySation and Xbox 360 for $3.00/240 MS Points.

    Scorpion Level Engineering RIG

    The Scorpion Level Engineering RIG, also called the Scorpion Suit, was also available for PlaySation and Xbox for $4.00/320 MS Points.

    Advanced Unitologist RIG

    The Advanced Unitologist RIG, but referred as the Tank Suit, was available for both PlaySation and Xbox for $4.00/320 MS Points. The Advanced Unitologist RIG makes appearance in Dead Space 2 for anyone who buy the collector's edition of Dead Space 2.

    EarthGov Security Suit

    A variation of the Security Suit, it has 15% armor, 15 inventory slots, and a 5% bonus to Detonator, Seeker Rifle, and Pulse Rifle damage. It can be found in the Martial Law Pack for 400 MS points/$5.

    Bloody Vintage Suit

    A variation of the Vintage Suit, it has 15% armor, 15 inventory slots, and a 5% bonus to Flamethrower, Javelin Gun, and Force Gun damage. It can be found in the Martial Law Pack for 400 MS points/$5.

    Forged Engineering Suit

    A variation of the Engineering Suit, it has 15% armor, 15 inventory slots, and a 15% bonus to medpack heals. It can be found in the Supernova Pack Pack for 400 MS points/$5.

    Heavy-Duty Vintage Suit

    A variation of the Vintage Suit, it has 15% armor, 15 inventory slots, and a 5% bonus to Line Gun, Detonator, and Contact Beam damage. It can be found in the Supernova Pack Pack for 400 MS points/$5.

    Agility Advanced Suit

    A variation of the Advanced Suit, it has 15% armor, 15 inventory slots, and a 10% bonus to stasis duration. It can be found in the Supernova Pack Pack for 400 MS points/$5.

    Hazard Suit

    A variation of the Security Suit, it has 15% armor, 15 inventory slots, and a 5% bonus to stasis duration. It can be found in the Occupational Hazard Pack for 400 MS points/$5.

    Triage Suit

    A variation of the Security Suit, it has 15% armor, 15 inventory slots, and a 10% bonus to medpack heals. It can be found in the Occupational Hazard Pack for 400 MS points/$5.

    Shockpoint Suit

    A variation of the Advanced Suit, it has 15% armor, 15 inventory slots, and a 5% decreases to stasis recharge time. It can be found in the Occupational Hazard Pack for 400 MS points/$5.

    Patrol Suit

    A variation of the Security Suit, it has 15% armor, 15 inventory slots, and a 5% increase to Pulse Rifle and Seeker Rifle damage. It is available only in the "Severed" single player DLC, which costs 560 MS points/$7. The player starts the expansion as Gabe Weller of Dead Space Extraction with the suit on. A version of this suit can be used in the core game, though it is missing Weller's unique eye piece.
