@jeff As an electrical installer, I can confirm electric cookers/hobs are just as good as gas these days. You just need one that doesn't suck ass. Which is to say, not one that comes with a house.

In regards to how "fans" ruined the whole being more open about development movement:

I recently saw a tweet about the new PS5 UI and within a list of replies there was this guy that said something lame about how it's over now for Xbox. For whatever reason I got curious and checked out his profile and his entire timeline was full of these tweets that I can't even replicate - like Another loss for the xbox three sux - or something similarly embarrassing. Like tweet after tweet after tweet. Granted I don't really frequent many gaming forums so I'm not exposed to this sort of stuff on the daily although I know it exits, but I was really astounded by the feverish, cult like approach this person had. I mean it was really wild to what degree people will still align themselves with a brand.

Anyway, just wanted to share that while I thought maybe we were even slightly moving past this type of behavior, it still very much exists and I honestly now doubt it will ever go away.

@humanity: Its downright crazy that some people can get so into a brand. I remember on the CAGcast some years ago one of the hosts, Wombat was featured on the Xbox website on their Xbox gamer spotlight page.

The amount of vile messages he got from that was nothing short of staggering. And these where Xbox fans, attacking a guy who had done nothing to offend anyone. So never mind brand on brand psychotic breakdowns, these people can't even tolerate their own cult.

Found the clip (11 years old now, god time is something else)

That Sega CD intro is such a jam. I've always loved the filthy blues lick in the middle of all the space grooving.

@meierthered: Yah it's just nuts to have this mentality of "I like product A therefore I must absolutely destroy anyone that likes product B." I can't recall if I was as insufferable about this stuff as a teen - I was mostly a PC gamer so I didn't really get into console wars much - but the console wars are a difficult concept to understand as an adult.

EDIT: Specifically it's this idea that if you're obviously not going to buy an Xbox then why do you care? Why put all this effort into putting down a product that you're not going to interact with, that has no bearing on your enjoyment of games on the PS5.

Why can't people just be happy.. I guess.

The killer WIndows 98 start up music with the sick bass line Vinny mentioned:

That song is such a jam. I'm pretty sure there was a check box to stop showing it on start up that I left unclicked for a good long time.

Curious how none of the privacy critiques over the PS5 recording were brought up during the Facebook Quest 2 discussion when it's both far more invasive and run by an organization that is infinitely worse in every regard than Sony.

Yeah the FB connection completely rules out the Quest 2 for me. It's a shame no other headset is in that price bracket but I guess that's because Facebook has the money to take losses on the hardware whereas someone like HP probably doesn't.

For all the tech focus I'm surprised you guys haven't checked out induction cookers.

It's practically the same reaction time as gas but none of the anxiety about open flames.

I did not know the original fat PS3 had a different symphony opening than the Slim's. I only ever heard the Slim version. When he played it, I was like that is definitely not the symphony sound I'm used to, so I looked it up. I liked the symphony opening, though. I didn't read it as being ostentatious or anything.
