Overview
Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China is a 2.5D historical-fantasy side-scrolling platformer developed by Climax Studios (along with Ubisoft Montreal Studios) and digitally published by Ubisoft for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on April 21, 2015.
The first chapter in the Assassin's Creed Chronicles trilogy (a spin-off of the mainline Assassin's Creed series), Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China switches from the series' standard third-person, open-world formula to a smaller-scale side-scrolling platformer while retaining the series' stealth and parkour.
As the name implies, the game is set in 16th century China. Players take the role of Shao Jun, one of the last remaining members of the Chinese sect of the Brotherhood of Assassins who seeks to liberate the country from the Templar Order. After learning the secrets from an elderly Ezio Auditore da Firenze (as depicted in the short film Assassin's Creed: Embers), she returns to eliminate each member of the Eight Tigers, a group of Templars who rule China from the shadows.
The game later received two sequels, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India and Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia, each of which sports a new unique setting, timeline, and protagonist. All three games were released in a single compilation (known simply as Assassin's Creed Chronicles) with the release of the third, which also received a retail release (and, later, a PlayStation Vita release).
It also received a serialized manga adaptation in 2019-2021, known as Assassin's Creed: Blade of Shao Jun (or, in Japan, Assassin's Creed: China).
