    Simply Amazing

So I just finished BioShock 2 (obviously) and I was simply blown away. I picked up a –BRAND NEW- copy of the original BioShock back in 2010 while I was used game shopping mainly because I saw it for $9.99. As soon as the game began I was amazed with the graphics and overall feel of the game (especially the music) and after finishing it I just wanted more. This Christmas (2012) I received a copy of BioShock 2 from my older brother (for whom I bought a copy of the original BioShock) and told him he –HAD- to play it.

The game sat on my shelf for a few weeks simply because I was afraid of the “let down factor” that it wouldn’t live up to the original. Shortly after starting BioShock 2, I was quickly drawn into the game and getting everything I wanted from the experience. It isn’t often the case when a sequel improves on just about every aspect of it’s predecessor but BioShock 2 did this with flying colors. The story, music, graphics, and creepy feel given to the underground “tomb” of Rapture is simply amazing.

Being dropped in the role of a Big Daddy was just too cool and 2K/Take-Two Interactive went all out to make the player feel as powerful as the Big Daddy looked. The Plasmid system, AI, locations, and enemies have been improved to give familiar players a whole new experience from that of the original with enough seemingly familiarity to make the player feel comfortable in an environment that seems familiar… but no too familiar.

From beginning to end, the game plunges the player into a desperate race with purpose revealed through flashbacks and audio logs which not only makes the player feel they play with purpose but make the players play with a drive which is kind of a different feeling. For anyone with doubt, this game improves on just about anything you could imagine from the original. Definitely worth a shot… in the arm… … like a Plasmid.

Bioshock 2 has long been bemoaned as the sequel that was never needed. The original Bioshock captivated gamers with its thrilling narrative and cast of fantastically eccentric characters; dealing with philosophical ideals, moral choices, a society driven to insanity and the complexities of free will in an underwater utopia gone wrong. Rapture was the star of the show; an atmospheric city built deep below the waves. Its 1930s art deco architecture housed by the criminally insane minds of the smar...

A note to begin the review: If you have not yet played the first Bioshock, do yourself an huge favor by completing that before playing this game. It's a great game that's really worth every bit of praise it receives. Short review summary: A more simple and poignant comparison of the atmospheres of both games: in the first game, you timidly held a wrench. In this game, you have a GODDAMN DRILL FOR A HAND. When 2K Games announced its plans to start a franchise based off the success of the fi...
