The only thing they fear... is you.

The fifth main game in the Doom franchise, Doom Eternal, takes place eight months after the events of 2016's Doom. During these eight months, the demonic forces teleport Doom Slayer/Doomguy to Hell so they can take over Earth, which Khan Maykr is using human souls as energy to save Urdak, the home world of the Maykrs, and she has plans to awaken the Icon of Sin. The Slayer/Doomguy eventually returns to Earth and sets out to drive the demons away, stop Khan Maykr from awakening the Icon of Sin, and save humanity. Since this game came out along with Animal Crossing: New Horizons (which my sister loves), a meme spawned of Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing being fused together, which resulted in Doomguy being friends with Isabelle canon.

You need a Bethesda Account in order to play the game at all, even when you're playing the single-player mode. When starting the game up, an error message will often pop up telling the players that they were unable to log into Bethesda.net, thankfully logging in isn't mandatory for playing the game. An update further added Denuvo Anti-Cheat, resulting a huge backlash and review bombing. Fortunately, it was removed in Update 1.1 after the backlash.

Most of the good qualities in 2016's Doom return here, and have been improved upon, such as an amazing story that expands on the Doom lore. It's also much longer length than its predecessor. What I really like are the extraordinarily stunning photo-realistic graphics with magnificently lush visuals, lavishly rich production values, outstanding technical achievements and exceptional levels of attention to detail, especially with the weapon effects, map designs, the designs for both new and returning enemies and Glory Kill animations, all of which are thanks to the capabilities of the new id Tech 7 engine. Although there are a few small frame-rate drops here and there, the game for the most part runs very smooth, even on higher graphical settings. Sometimes the textures will not be fully loaded. Also, for some reason, the game constantly flickers every 30 seconds, which can interrupt your playthrough, especially while fighting demons.

The game confirms that the Doom Slayer is actually Doomguy from the original game, Doom II, and Doom 64. Doomguy is now equipped with a shoulder cannon, which can shoot grenades, ice grenades or be used as a flamethrower. Also, a new attack called the "Blood Punch" is introduced, where players can deal massive damage to enemies once they perform enough Glory Kills. In addition to this, the Glory Kill system returns, and has more kill animations than before.

In addition to weapon and armor upgrades returning, a new type of upgrade called "Sentinel Crystals" are introduced, where they can upgrade health, armor, or ammo, with it being six perks being in if upgrading two of the three on to one to unlock a perk. Speaking of ammo, ammo is also much scarcer, encouraging the player to use different tactics to kill enemies such as using the Chainsaw more often.

Although it might look awkward with the modern graphics, you can pose your weapon in the center of the screen, just like the older titles. If you're used to modern FPS games, check the "classic weapon pose" box so you won't have the urge to aim down your sights, since you can't do that in Doom.

Movement is more focused on, as Doomguy now has a grappling hook attached to the Super Shotgun, can swing from poles, and gains the ability to perform two boosts, which can be done in the air or on the ground to either make long jumps or to dodge enemy attacks. Exploration is also more emphasized than in past Doom games, as Runes are hidden within levels rather than having to complete Rune Trials, unlike the first game. Secrets and collectibles return, with there now being a wider variety of collectibles.

Platforming sections return, and they are handled better than in the previous game because of the improved movement. The platforming sections are really difficult due to the fact that you have to time your jumps perfectly while shooting at a target that opens the door in mid-air.

The difficulty is even much more challenging than the previous game, with players having to fight more demons than before. The difficulty and AI are unfair and unbalanced, even on "I'm Too Young To Die", the easiest difficulty of the game.

There's around twice as many monsters to fight here than in 2016's Doom. A bunch of the new enemies have interesting and challenging tactics they use against the player, such as one of them using shields to either block the player or to protect other enemies. Bigger and stronger types of demons have weak points, and they are quite challenging to hit. Some enemy spawns can be unfair, such as when enemies spawn everywhere, including right behind the player, and quickly overwhelm them.

The boss fights are epically incredible, especially Khan Maykr, a great antagonist that is a massive threat to the Doom Slayer/Doomguy, and the Icon of Sin. Each one of them has an intense difficulty that tests the player's skills. The Unmaker also finally returns in this game, this time with an angelic appearance.

For the first time in the franchise, there is a hub area known as the "Fortress of Doom". There, you can listen to the soundtrack from previous Doom games, Quake games, and even two of the tracks from Wolfenstein 3D, play the full games of Doom (1993) (which unlocks when you find all of the cheats) and Doom II (See tips) and choose which mission you want to play. The soundtrack itself composed by Mick Gordon is dark, intense, and action-packed. Unlike 2016's Doom, the soundtrack's dynamic range is mixed so every instrument has the same volume, which can cause some parts of tracks to sound poor as a result. Composer Mick Gordon revealed that he mixed only a few tracks while someone else mixed all the other tracks. Because of this, he stated that he will likely not work with id Software again. Additionally, the excellent and extremely well-done sound effects, with improved weapon sounds and improved surround sound that makes it easier to tell where nearby enemies are.

Multiplayer returns, and has a new mode called "Battlemode", where The Doom Slayer and 2 player controlled Demons fight with the goal being either the demons killing the Slayer 2 or more times or the Slayer kill the demons.

There is no (at least not greedy) monetization present in the game. Furthermore, Bethesda stated that they have no plans to add said feature. The DLC expansion The Ancient Gods is really good as well, and serves as a satisfying conclusion for the game. Andrew Hulshult and David Levy also do a really good job with the soundtrack for The Ancient Gods DLC.

Cheats make a appearance, and they are very fun to play around with. There also many easter eggs everywhere where you can find collectibles item and find funny moments in there. The library is even filled with easter eggs. For example, the game features a fictional book, titled How to comb your mustache, where the author is signed as Cliffton M. Fischbach, which refers to now-deceased Markiplier's father.

Here are some tips for players:

To unlock Doom II, you need to enter the the secret code. Go underneath the room where you go to missions, and enter the following code to unlock Doom II: FLYNNTAGGART

For those forgot or struggled to beat a Marauder, you can shoot him after his green flashing eyes with the Super Shotgun (which stuns him), Grenade from behind and Quick Switch (upgradeable Suit/Fundamentials/Hot Swapper) with Ballista after each shot until he puts back the shield.

      1. In an arena containing aggressive enemies around him, you can kill them first or try to position yourself.
      2. NEVER shoot the shield as he will summon a wolf to bite you. Otherwise, you have to shoot a wolf to let it disappear. The double Marauder fight in The Ancient Gods expect you to hit another Marauder's shield as you have to deal with both at the same time.

DOOM Eternal is brutal, ruthless, unmerciful, and unconditionally brilliant. 0

Hell and Heavens, Demons and Humans, DOOM begs the question: which is more corrupt and wicked? Us or them, Hell or heavens?DOOM Eternal is brutal, ruthless, unmerciful, and unconditionally brilliant.I didn't expect the game to be this good and it blew me away from the get-go. The music, the combat, and the story and lore all fall together to create a masterpiece of a game. The game takes everything that worked in DOOM 4 and just improves it further on, the combat is faster, the music hits harder,...
