Nah i think its gore will add to its mature personality, so I'm all for it. Never one for turning down gore anywhoo in the first place.

Dragon Age: Origins is an epic fantasy role-playing game featuring a rich story, personality-driven characters, and tactical, bloody combat. It is considered a spiritual successor to the Baldur's Gate series.
Is the gore in Dragon Age too far over the top for you to enjoy the game?
Are you a sissy or something? I love decapitating my foe's head, from their body, and watching a jetstream of blood fly from their neck.
It just seems to be another part of the horrible "fuck yeah Xtreme, this is the new shit" stuff that Bioware seem to be going for with this game, that said people literally exploded if they died from a critical hit in the Baldurs Gate games so its not too bad. I imagine there will be a slider that lets you adjust gore anyway, I just hope this game is good.
The more gore the better is what I say!
If it's realistic enough. I don't want to see guys explode into guts when sliced in half though....
Is this a serious poll? Who the fuck is going to say "No I don't want this game, I heard it's too bloody. "
" @evanbrau: Oh yes, nothing like D&D rules that say if you get a high enough critical, something explodes into a blood sausage. ""Radscorpion exploded like a blood sausage."
I missed those vivid descriptions...
Anyway, nah, the I think the violence is all good as long as it looks realistic as opposed to the excessive blood you see in the Ninja Gaiden series. That's fun too of course but I prefer controlled blood loss.

I never saw anything really that over the top from Gore on this game..and I enjoy it regardless. If you want over the top, L4D2, you shoot a dude in the back with a deagle and half of his back comes out exposing his insides and spine...over the top and overkill, but hilarious and great anyway.
My only problem is that some people cry for " more realistic looking gore" but don't take into account that you couldn't cut someone's head off with one fell swoop from a sword. I think if a game really wanted to have realism it should make you actually work for your gore, if you really want to decapitate someone you should have to stand over their dead carcas and chop at it for 5 minutes.
" The way they're handling gore & sex is unappealing to me. They're simply being used as a marketing device, it's like Mortal Kombat. If it was a decision being made by game designers and not marketers and fatcat CEOs in board rooms I'd feel differently about it. "I hear you there. MK is an interesting comparison. There is certainly worse than dragon age as Venatio mentioned. The thing is, something like L4D is a horror game, and it fits great. I'd just prefer this genre a bit less over the top.
I will rejoice on the day when the TV will splatter blood across my face thanks to killing something in-game.
Of course you could. Enough force behind the swing and a sharp enough blade and heads will be rolling. They've used decapitation as a means of punishment pretty much everywhere and I guarantee you they weren't all chopping for 5 minutes on every kill." Actually, historically speaking it usually took at least two or three whacks to take someone's head off. Even with a huge axe the human spine is pretty sturdy. About the only execution device that could take a head off with one slice was a guillotine. Even that didn't do that job every time.
I dunno, I don't really have any calculations to support it. I'm just going by what I saw on Spike's Deadliest Warrior. Dude chopped through two and a half hogs with his katana, so I'm pretty sure that at the right angle and with enough force it could take off a head.
Anyways, I'll be grabbing the game for sure, and the blood and gore and stuff doesn't bother me at the least. It's not too theatrical or over-the-top, so I'm fine with it.
Too much gore? Have you not played Resident Evil 4 in its prime? Or seen God of War 3 Quick Look? I also like in the Dragon Age Quick Look how the naked dwarf is covered in blood. It just looks so ridiculous lol. But I do like the persistence of the blood.
Oh and The Witcher had decapitations too come to think of it.
I gotta agree somewhat with the topics of the thread. I'm not scared to say that I think the gore in this game is over the top (in a bad way) and overdone. I love gore. I loved the gore in the ninja gaiden series, i love it when enemies blow up and you can see the anatomy of the human body in specific detail, i love that stuff. What i hate most about DA:O is the damn blood spray. After combat, the characters come out with blood ALL OVER THEM. Looks cool at first, but then you realise it happens after every single fight, and the worst part is, the blood spray pattern is exactly the same, so you, and everyone else all have the EXACT SAME blood spray pattern over your face and body etc. It just looks stupid imo.
I see excessive gore as compensating for a lack of realistic gore. Face it, we're far from realistic gore in video games. We're barely able to do realistic gore in high-budget movies, let alone video games. And honestly, who would want realistic gore in a video game? Stylized exploding heads = comic gore = moral ambiguity = old people not coming down on video game censorship like in Australia.
I'll take the instagibs over fully modeled realistic decapitations with scientifically accurate blood spurts, thank you very much.
Yeah doesn't bother me at all. My guys being covered in blood speckles all the time is kinda silly but really, I just don't care... It's a freaking great game, why would gore of all things (at this point in videogames?) bother me so much that I wouldn't play it?
I'm all for the gore as long as it's at least somewhat appropriate, such as being covered in blood spray after a big group battle. When my dog and I killed a few rats in the larder however? Not appropriate, it looked downright ridiculous in that instance to be honest.
If it has to be all or nothing - I'll take all.
The Dragon Age blood is very stylized and while it borders on "XTREME", it doesn't quite cross over into ridiculous. I think some people are acting a little too elitist when it comes to blood in video games. Just because there is an excess of gore doesn't mean that it's necessarily bad.
Now Fallout 3, I think, did gore very unstylized and ridiculous. Even without the bloody mess perk, sometimes shooting a mutant in the head with a pistol would result in limbs magically being blown off.
Frankly, I'm enjoying the stylized blood spray of Dragon Age. It carries a certain dark charm.
