There is no game that I think is bad that I like.
The game is shit, but you love it.
Enter the Matrix, 007 Nightfire and Heavenly Sword. Heavenly Sword wasn't so much reviled as just consistently shat upon. I thought it was the best exclusive game for the PS3 until inFamous came out.
This. I loved that game. I also really liked Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, for some reason. Also, Shadowrun on the SNES (not the acclaimed Genesis version). I used to rent that every weekend, and I eventually bought it at a KB Toys for $20." Gauntlet Legends on N64?
" I will always have a place in my heart for Future Cop LAPD. It makes absolutely no sense, however I can never say no to how much fun I personally had with it. "I totally agree. Such an awesome game, especially in multiplayer.
" Dynasty Warriors, some critics like it but I don't think that series is exactly loved. Uh I know there's something else lemme think about it. I'll edit it in when it comes to me. I have a vivid image of clipping halfway through a door or something... This is totally gonna bother me. "Not so much these days, but yeah -- DW is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine.
Game was almost like a Star Wars RPG.It was really awesome. Didn't review well though.
Also Dark Sector.
I don't love any game that is shit, to be honest. I've played through games like Blue Dragon that weren't critically loved, but I tihnk people are exxagerating when they say it was "shit". It was reviewed as a competent game. I think "shit" has to imply something more universally terrible, such as Big Rigs or M&M's racing.
Kind of surprised that no one has said it yet, but I loved Star Fox Adventures when I was a kid. I didn't really find out that most people hated it until several years later, and I've never quite understood why.
I loved Body Harvest for the N64. But man, that game was HARD and kinda broken.
I played the shit out of that game throughout middle school and high school.
Yoshi's Story, I guess? I always loved it and played it a fair amount even after growing older. Only found out through the magic of the Internet in my teens that it was supposedly shit, but I still love it.
" Kind of surprised that no one has said it yet, but I loved Star Fox Adventures when I was a kid. I didn't really find out that most people hated it until several years later, and I've never quite understood why. "Your not the only one that loves Star Fox Adventure. Sure it's not the typical Star Fox game, but I still had a blast with the game.
I don't know if it was considered terrible but most consider car combat games terrible who all remembers this? I enjoyed these types of games because most of them had co-op split screen so was fun to play with friends and stuff i just remember this game being all out nuts.
Enchanted Arms was just awful in every regard but the solid gameplay mechanics, but I enjoyed the everloving shit out of it for that very reason. It was absurdly Japanese, obviously needed more development time, and could have stood with an entire rewrite of the horrid plot. But the turn based RPG stuff was pretty great, the collectible golems were a good idea, and the ridiculousness of the entire game gave it a post-modern charm.
" Blue Dragon. Critically, it reviewed well, but people still like to shit on it. "I finished that game. Maxed everyones levels too. I'm not really sure why though...
Anyway, Earth Defense Force 2017. Sometimes I hate loving that mess.
As far as older guilty pleasures go, I was reallllly into the N64 version of Winback. It was one of the first third-person shooters with a dedicated cover mechanic I ever remember playing, and I thought the fact that the entire game was essentially one big complex that slowly explored more and more of was really refreshing, as opposed to be whisked through to different disconnected levels. Even then though, I realized the story was nonsensical and that at a certain point, the whole 'one connected level' thing was just a cover for a lot of backtracking and very limited level design.
In more recent games, Alpha fucking Protocol. That game is so ambitious and crazy from a top-level design document level, but buggy to all hell. In reality, that kinda describes the Obsidian line-up in general: ambitious narrative and design structure hampered by totally fucked coding. You know things are bad when you resent a game for making you do the thing that you spend the majority of the game doing.
I loved Batman Forever for the Genesis. The fighting animations and controls were lifted from Mortal Kombat and it again justified my purchase of the Sega 6 button controller.
I never hear anything good about the Dance Dance Revolution games anymore, I still love and play the hell out of them.
" Kane & Lynch. Everything besides the gameplay is fantastic. A real tragedy in every sense of the word. "Is it worth trudging through for the story? I've often contemplated renting it and the sequel.
" @HandsomeDead said:Yes and no. The first half is great and it's rare to see a game so committed to its characters and their personal development, particularly when it's so relentlessly grim, but the second half is really, really bad when it turns into a standard shooter, something the game's mechanics just can't do. That being said, I picked it up for £3 so for that kind of money, I can't say I regret it and I'm looking forward to getting the sequel at some point." Kane & Lynch. Everything besides the gameplay is fantastic. A real tragedy in every sense of the word. "Is it worth trudging through for the story? I've often contemplated renting it and the sequel. "
When I first started playing this game I really loved it. It has a very old school feeling to it. It was also the first game I ever played on an HDTV and the visuals blew me away. The problem was, along with that dreadful song, it just become less and less interesting to me the farther I went into it. I don't know, maybe I'll pick it up again one day.
Naruto Ultimate Ninja storm 2 because it's anime that's why people hate it, Dragonball raging blast 2, because it's DBZ and peopel think it is the same game, lots of Koei games like Fist of the north star ken's rage because it is repetitive. And garouden breakblow fist or twist because it's old lol. And looks like a giant slugfest.
I had that game for the ps1. I liked the "facechanging" gadget that they'd let you use.
" Vampire Rain "Holy shit it looks like that game's cover was designed by a fifteen year old lunatic!
" Anyone need help with Too Human? Because I put 144 hours into developing my commander. "Yeah, I eventually ended up enjoying Too Human despite itself.
Some of the games that I enjoyed but nobody seems to like include:
- The Hobbit
- Destroy All Humans
- Gun
- Yoshi Story
