"Hot garbage" and "Hella" or Jeff's more proper "Hell of" are in rotation.
I'll tell you what I DIDN'T pick up though..."at some point," calling things "weird" (these guys need a new descriptor bad), and "do a thing." These phrases are doo doo.
Ryan and Dan are the two who've probably impacted my actual vernacular the most. Jeff has probably had the largest influence on my disposition.
"That's a cool thing to do" is a really common phrase. Or any form of "doing [descriptor] stuff." Doing cool guy stuff. Spy stuff.
Introduced a friend to a new beer the other day and was asked, "What's in this?"
To which I responded, "I don't know. Beer stuff."
The stupid high pitched way of talking Jeff does sometimes. I'm not sure what else. Probably adding "super" to things.
I do find myself doing the thing James May from Top Gear did as a running joke where he would say "Good news!" or "Great news!" and then follow it up with something completely boring or dull, or even bad (in his case it was talking about the Dacia Sandero, for me it's when stuff goes wrong at work).
I'm British and say hot garbage a lot but it just doesn't have the same power as Jeff due of my accent.
I also I have picked up the way Dan says "yeah!" when something exciting happens which is quite strange.
"Hot garbage" gets used a lot.
^ have to agree with this too.
Although it can go the other way, there are thing I hear on podcasts that I REFUSE to use - ever. An example is wheelhouse, as in "as an pedantic twat, saying stupid things is right in my wheelhouse." I think I first heard that phrase uttered on 1UP yours by Garnett Lee (otherwise, a nice fellow), and I instantly took a dislike to that turn of phrase . Every time Brad says it, and it is mostly Brad, I cringe.
Something being "on fire" or "actively on fire," as well as previously mentioned "hot garbage" and "bananas"
Also "I don't know guys" when feeling the game or film is not as good as expected, "Maaan" when that game or film ended and left me disappointed. "Meh" from Vinny a long time ago.
Freakily enough, I've started murmuring "Do you wanna ride the rollercoaster" way to often...
Risky life choices.
Considering this website has been my primary source of downtime entertainment and background noise, I've picked up a bit from Jeff, "hot garbage" "on fire" and "totally fucked or busted"
I was around my mother and stubbed my toe and said "sugar" instead of shit...thanks Vinny
And playing a game and coming across a fucked situation I will exclaim "I'm out!" repeatedly until failing
But seriously though, my vocabulary has improved thanks to listening to those dudes for so many years. They say words that no normal person who wasn't an English major in collage would say out loud. It kinda catches me off guard sometimes and I have to look the word up. I think Brad does that more than anyone else, but I've noticed that Alex is doing it pretty often now as well, same with Austin.
I am starting to pick up Dan's "to where" habit, or at least I'm starting to notice how much I say it already.
Noooooooo.
It was off-putting enough when I realized that he'd spread this to the other members of the Bombcast. If you're saying it's spreading in the world at-large...man if I hear someone say this in real life I'll probably explode. IMO it's worse than "like".
Also, to add to the thread, I definitely do use "hot trash/garbage" just like almost everyone else in this thread apparently does! Also, things like "That's DUMB", "Yay!" (in an unusually enthusiastic manner like Jeff sometimes does), and "What? What? What?"
I find that a lot of my speaking mannerisms have come from Jeff more than any of the other duders.
@mrmathias: that was it! You're the best
Edit: weird that it was 3 years ago today too haha
@quantris: Do you feel like it's getting to where you can't escape it anymore?
I'm pretty sure that It's Always Sunny and Giant Bomb idioms have entirely replaced my original vocabulary by this point. I'm not ashamed.
Most of the things I've picked up come from Jeff:
'Janky'
'Huh'
'In a lot of ways'
'Get up on him' (and)
'Give him the business'
'I mean... what?' (after saying something self-incriminating)
And I like to say pairs of one syllable words the way Jeff says 'Big Bo', but never when anyone can hear me. Also, I've recently noticed that Austin's 'hot minute' has started to spread around the GB East office.
Besides the obvious ones, I didn't realize I picked up on Drew's occasional habit of saying 'my' like 'muh' until someone snickered after I said it recently.
See: 'Did you get into a fight in your bathroom?' 'With muh butt?'
@quantris: Do you feel like it's getting to where you can't escape it anymore?
AAAH stop it!
Actually that one isn't *so* bad, since "getting" and "where" do work together. Dan just happens to use "to where" as a general purpose preposition (and sometimes a conjunction like "but" or an interjection like "umm"), and it totally drives me up the wall whenever I notice it. And from what I've seen, when he writes he has a decent flow free of such weird constructions. So that's extra annoying.
"Hot garbage; "[name]-ass"; "ostensibly"; and other, sometimes more nuanced influences. I think I might have said "hella" out loud at some points in my life. Most recently I think I've been occasionally saying "real talk" because of Austin.
EDIT: Reading through other posts is making me realize other influences I wasn't thinking of like "throw dark" - so who knows just how much GB has shaped my English vernacular. Apparently a lot. At the time I started listening to the guys, I was about to enter an international school, and would, for the first time in my life, spend whole school years speaking in English. I think I based a lot of my speech from what I heard from Giant Bomb.
I catch myself doing stupid Dan eyebrow stuff when I'm drunk and playing video games. They've helped me accept dope as a part of my vocabulary. I still refuse to say bangers.
Referring to bad things as "Hot garbage".
"Broke-ass shit."
General over use of the word "dumb" in several different contexts.
"Shit, man you throw dark."
"Ostensibly" aka: The Patrick Klepek Special.
Saying "Hell of" instead of "hella" because saying "hella" is hell of dumb.
"Man, that was a deep cut."
"That's some (blank)-ass (blank), right there!" Example: "That's some platforming-ass platforming right there!"
"Hey, you guys!"
Referring to things as "Super"
Referring to someone as Young as a title. Like how Brad refered to Dan as Young Ryckert that one time.
"FUCK THIS SHIT, I'M OUT"
I also do the "That's the name of my new [dumb music genre] band" thing constantly, but I've kind of always made that joke. GB has just forced me to think of better dumb genres.
