Which sounds do you find utterly pleasurable in games?

I recently played through Transistor and it was a pretty cool game but one thing I just couldn't get enough of was the terminal opening sound. It feels nostalgic but I can't quite put my finger on what it's reminding me of. It's like part THX logo sound, part old video game sound. I've also been playing Chibi-Robo for the GC and the voice work is all gibberish but there is a thank you noise with an echo that gives me so much pleasure. I've marked it on the video but if it's not, it's at 2:48.

Death Stranding had tons of pleasurable sounds, maybe too many to list.

Are there sounds in games you just can't get enough of? What do you think are some of the most pleasurable sounds in gaming?

Not game specific, but I think Microsoft did a really good job with their rare achievement sound.

The Halo grunt party sound is always pleasant.

also the sonic spring.

also also snes era capcom (think street fighter 2) and konami.

In a similar vein to the Xbox achievement dings the noise for Pure Platinum trophies in Bayonetta is pretty good.

I also enjoy the cash register noise for gaining xp in the Fallout games.

The Stardew Valley item pickup sound is utterly delightful.

It'd be cool if ppl provided samples for some of these sounds. I'd love to hear 'em cuz I haven't played a bunch already mentioned.

I also love many sounds in Bayonetta. Especially the chorus sound right before you get graded on the encounter you just completed. I was quite sad they removed that from the 2nd game.

Specifically, I like the sound the stamp makes, and the sound the fingerprint paper makes when it slides out from the side.

I sound like a crazy person. But they are good sounds.

In Dark Souls 1, when you try to add more levels than you can afford, there's a "nope" sound that is refrshingly meaty. I don't like sounds that are flat and have all the oomph of a centenarian's left hook and a lot of games seem to suffer from that. It's less of a problem now than it used to be, though.

And Parodius is just a treasure trove of pleasurable sounds.

@obcdexter: I'll second the X Buster charge and shoot from Mega Man X. It sounds powerful.

Also, I always love mashing out a quick spin dash in Sonic 2/3/Knuckles/Mania. It's got that same rapid pitch increase that sounds like you're about to do something cool.

On the opposite end, I find the sound of blocks breaking and items entering your inventory in Minecraft very relaxing.

Wilhelm Screams and the level up sounds in Call of Duty.

When you level up in wow you're bathed in yellow light from the heavens and it's accompanied by the sound of a gong being struck amidst a shower of coins.

Mario's little chirps as he jumps around are also timelessly delightful.

The lockpicking sound in Morrowind. I cant explain it, but that little soundbite is just real, real good to me.

Always really enjoyed this for some reason, his weird double voice which they never used again, combined with that grab move.

The shovelling sounds in the DS/3DS Animal Crossings was delightful.

Also, the weird swirly ambient sound on the PS2 start screen.

I got another one, currently playing Fable and I always love hearing the new quest card jingle.

Super Mario World. Just... all of it. Man, that game had gorgeous sound effects. Super Metroid too, especially the elevator sounds.

Tumblers slotting into place in Oblivion's lockpicking minigame.

The sound of painting reticles on targets in Red Dead Redemption's dead eye mode.

All the sounds associated with healing up your party at a Pokemon Center.

The XP gain noise in Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

The "Rah!" tech discovery noise in Civilization III.

@justin258: I would add the bonfire light up sound as well. As soon as you hear it you know you can relax just for a little bit.

Playstation-era JRPGs had a slew of satisfying sounds.

Eating a Ration in MGS, The 'Critical Hit' sound in Pokemon Sword/Shield, the 'Last Hit' effect from Smash Ultimate and the Home Run bat from Smash.

The cash register sound in fallout

The hit marker sound in Call of Duty is probably the longest-lasting one for me. I love any sort of *tick* feedback on damage.

A good reload sound is always super satisfying to me. The slide out, slide back in and click telling you you're ready to kill more fools, and it always sucks to die in the middle of doing so leaving you wanting that last click. Been playing a lot of Modern Warfare multiplayer and that has a good reload sound - its sound design is insane (not in a good or bad way just in a wtf is even happening way).

The sound for nailing an active reload in Gears is pretty good too, and it's always followed by a gravely "nice."

I can't think of any specific Nintendo game sound but we all know they rule supreme on the soundiest sounds.

I particularly enjoy a great engine sound whenever I'm driving in a game.

Predictably the sim games do this the absolute best: RaceRoomRacingExperience, Assetto Corsa, Automobilista, MotoGP etc. Some arcade games offer great sounds as well, like Gravel and Gran Turismo Sport.

It doesn't even have to realistic: the engine sounds in Redout, Grip and Xenon Racer are quite addictive to my ears, with their futuristic "swoosh" sounds.

Nor does it have to be a racing game. I really enjoyed driving around in Mad Max, and much of that had to do with the sound of the cars.

In Ocarina of Time, I love the distorted warbly sound of hitting certain metal objects (with the hookshot I think?) when underwater. The fact that they went to all the trouble to nail this particularly rare sound effect shows the level of care that went into this game, especially for 1998. (I also love this weird sound in real life.)
