Anund was my main character in Dark Age of Camelot and kind of stuck with me since. I chose my avatar based on the fact that Jagged Alliance is a fantastic game.
Explain your Giant Bomb username and avatar image!
My username is my real name - Dan Kempster. I've never been big on internet anonymity, so I rock it with most of my online profiles. In the rare instances where it's already taken, I opt for danielkempster instead.
My current avatar is something I drew about eight or nine years ago as part of a logo for the band I was in at the time. It's supposed to be a faceless caricature of myself. When the band broke up, I held onto the illustrations and repurposed the one of myself for my own ends, attaching it to most of my creative projects and eventually my online profiles. My previous avatar was a Premier Olympic drum kit, the first acoustic kit I ever bought, with my username superimposed over it.

This is something you should never admit to on the internet.
In the Kingdom Hearts series, when you get consumed by the heartless and form a nobody, (if the soul is still strong enough to be bound to a humanoid body without a heart) then the Organisation XIII member is (usually) named by taking the letters of the original person's name, adding an X, and rearranging.
My name is David. Add X and rearrange for Dixavd.
My picture is of some arty bullshit I made. It has a Christmas hat on because I did it for that community giantbomb christmas thing and never bothered to remove it.
The name Mosaic is one I've had since the mid 90's back when the 14.4k modem was a thing. I came up with it because I went on a field trip to the art museum and really liked the name. Have been using it ever since. I think I first used it on one of the very first graphical chat rooms called The Palace that was semi-popular back in the day. As for the M80, I don't really like that part but haven't been able to figure out a better ending. M for my name (Matthew) and 80 for the year I was born. Boring, I know.
As for my avatar, it's Applejack from My Little Pony:Friendship is Magic. She's my favorite pony but I do love all of them pretty equally. Plus I think it's just a great picture of her, a little more realistic than the actual show depiction.
HA my name is pretty self explanatory and for my picture......I have AD(H)D and I feel like my brain is running on a treadmill ALLLLLLLL the time or something similar if that makes sense. I actually just googled for "brain" in the hope i'd find something similar to what I was describing and I Immediately fell in love with this picture.
I sure hope people dont think that I think that I am super smart about myself because I have the picture of a brain or anything ;p not disillusioned yet.
It's an abbreviation of my name. I use it everywhere. Current avatar is from Payday. Thought it looked sweet.
So, my friend had one of those alphabet magnet things and one day someone randomly spelled out "like hippie genocide without the suck". I thought it was weirdly awesome so it stuck. I don't actually wish death upon all hippies or anything.
My avatar is Naoto Shirogane from Persona 4, because she's awesome.
PunkXBlaze is a really stupid handle I came up with when I was like 15 to make fun of the fact that I kept getting "UR A PUNK" in stupid online personality test things. Unfortunately I think the name rings a little too earnestly lol Internet to be taken for the joke that it is. Regardless, it's followed me since.
The avatar is Doom because DOOM. This should immediately make sense to a lot of you.
Grtk is an acronym for Ghost Ride the Kodo, which was my WoW guild. It was a pretty good time in my gaming career and has just seemed to stick with me even though I quit wow right around WotLK.
And my avatar is, uhhh, subliminal messaging for my blog. ;)
When I was watching the HBO series Rome with some friends many years ago, they were all laughing at how silly the Roman religious rituals were. I pointed out people in the far future watching a show about our era will find the religions of our era equally ridiculous. They may say something along the lines of "Haha, look at those idiots. They didn't even worship the Giant Lizard King!" The laughed and it stuck with us.
I found the image on google images when searching for Giant Lizard King. I liked the classy looking lizard in a top hat.
I often use the nickname hermes in games (in reference to the Greek god). Registered the first day of the site to make sure it wouldn't got taken...
My avatar is a photoshop I did some time ago of Ryan's flipped face in Zangief body. I changed into it after his dead, and just left it there...
I've always enjoyed the names of heroes from 80s-early 90s action movies, i.e. John Matrix, Mason Storm, etc, so I came up with one for myself called Jack Stryker. Been using that as my online handle in some fashion or another ever since.
My avi is a shot of the Freddie Mercury statue that overlooks a lake in Switzerland. Because Queen Rocks!
My username actually came from a novel I was writing way back when. The main character was called Dyjeng Kazona. Before then I had always used ShadowWalker as my username, but that was a very common name (duh) so when looking for another name to use I thought that was a pretty cool one. Been using it ever since. The avatar is actually a drawing of that character made by my then girlfriend.
The novel, unfortunately, never got very far :(
When signing up for online games, I normally went with The_Immortal_Man as a display name, but that name was taken frequently enough that I shortened it to Immortal_Guy. I like it as a handle for online games, because I'm invariably getting killed all the time.
My avatar's a wierd picture of an eye my brother drew about 8 years ago. He was pleased with how it turned out, so he set it as the avatar on our (joint) steam account, which we had just got. Since then, we've both grown up, he's got his own account and the shared one has drifted to me - but I'd gotten so used to the picture I've just kept it around. Seemed the natural choice for an avatar when I signed up for this site.
I've always had this username as an online handle from as far back as I can remember. During my early online days I would frequent fantasy roleplay chat rooms and I wanted a name that sounded half way between a wizard and a hypnotist so Mezmero stuck. Started using it for multiplayer FPS games as well. For most MMO's and "build-a-character" style RPGs I'll more often than not use the name and spec myself as a magic user. For the record I was unaware at the time that there was a classic X-Men villain named "Mesmero". It was a pure coincidence that I came up with the name with a "z" instead of an "s".
As for my avatar it's Ryuji Yamazaki from King of Fighters/ Real Bout: Fatal Fury who is my favorite fighting game character of all time. Admittedly I've never been great with him but I've always dug his fighting styyyyyyyyle. The way he savagely attacks his opponents is sort of how I approach playing and completing most video games. Just win by any means necessary, even if underhanded tactics are required. Kick dirt in the game's face, drag it along the ground face first, pull out a knife and stab it in the gut. Okay so my approach to playing that way is more figurative in that sense but I often have that mind set of "don't just beat the game, destroy and humiliate it" when tackling a new game. I don't so much cheat these days but if I happen to find an exploit then I just run with it.
Worth noting that during the hay days of Whiskey Media I wanted to have some thematic consistency for my user avatar on a per website basis. Meaning that on Screened I had a film character, on Anime Vice I had a manga character, on Comic Vine I have a comic book character, and thus on Giant Bomb I have a video game character.
Username is a combination of my fandom of the Detroit Red Wings and Douglas Adams, and I've used it for almost 20 years . Also, there have only been about half a dozen players that have ever worn the number 42 for the Wings (and none of them were particularly memorable with Detroit), so it isn't a username that would be taken as often as redwing7 or redwing19. I thought that I had kind of set my own place in the internet with it, but some creepy guy from Kentucky came along and used it for a dating site and also grabbed the twitter handle to post porn. So that was disappointing.
When I first got Rock Band, a friend and I used the band name generator for a while until something good came up. What we stuck with was Cephalopod Robots, which is pretty awesome. Another friend of mine is a graphic artist and eventually made fake tour shirts for our Rock Band band, and my avatar is the logo he came up with. As you can see, it is a robotic octopus destroying a city, Godzilla-style.
@aegon: Ah, by that I meant that I could have come up with my own name instead of simply stealing a name from a great fantasy-series. I could have modified it at least.
My username became to be because of halo odst as for the avatar is a picture of the Citroen gt from gt5.
I like comics a great deal, but I didn't want XXWolverine_FanXX or Batman35214, so I got a little creative.
My avatar is from back when everyone was FUUUUMIIIIIIIIING over the visual tweaks to an already-barely defined character, so I changed it in a show of silent support. Then the game came out and was incredible, so I felt no terrible compulsion to change it back.
My username is more or less the same username I use everywhere else. It's a deliberate misspelling of my name that I made up when I was in about 5th grade...? I don't remember exactly when I created it, but I know I made it because it's always available anywhere I go. Too lazy to change it now.
My avatar is me. Fairly succinct, but a 100% accurate description. It'll change when I take a new photo of myself that I like, but I will usually always use a photo of myself.
As a hardcore Star Wars fan growing up with the Expanded Universe, there was almost no one as cool as this guy; Ganner Rhysode.
People familiar with the character will recognize this scene;
"There are thousands of warriors out here. You are only one man!"
"I am only one Jedi."
"You're insane!"
"No. I am Ganner. This threshold is mine. I claim it for my own. Bring on your thousands, one at a time or all in a rush. I don't give a damn. None shall pass."
Username: Made it up as a password for AIM when I was young, into Chevelle/Tool/etc. and thought it'd make a cool metal band when I got around to starting one. Realized years later it was my last name backwards. Use it on pretty much every site.
Image: Soulja Boy wiping his mouth as he turns his swag on, from "Turn My Swag On" music video. I just think it's a fun screen cap and have used it a lot of places as well.
My name comes from placing my first name (Ryan) into Instant Ramen since they both start with R and end with N.
I still need to put in my avatar pic, which is usually Bonta-Kun from FMP Fumoffu
I like comics a great deal, but I didn't want XXWolverine_FanXX or Batman35214, so I got a little creative.
Are you sure you don't want to change it to Unblackcatpool? Never mind, I just answered my own question.
Reisz is like an angsty, germanic, made up way to spell my actual name? It's way more metal than Rhys anyway. I drew it in a sketchbook once, I'm over it, but the sentiment lives on in this place.
The Rat is the Richter mask from Hotline Miami, that Motherfucker starts with a god damned silenced UZI, which is the most 80's action movie gun there is. I thought about changing it but then when Dark Souls II came out I got deep into the Rat King. So I decided to stick with it.
After a whole slew of aliases like IEatKneecaps, smeifsmoof and Skullbinder...all the Hamster related stuff began in 1996 with, "Jamez The Giant Hamster". That name in itself has a bit of history to it, but whatever. That's too long for most sites though, so it got shortened to jamezthegh and GiantHamster. In some cases, that was still too long - and often, "Hamster" was already taken - so I went with Hamst3r.
The whole, "Hamster Alliance" thing is because somewhere in there a couple of friends showed interest in writing music as a group. That fell through after a couple songs though and I was left with a second name and a domain. For a while I thought, for music stuff it'll be Hamster Alliance and for gaming it'll be Hamst3r but I didn't stick with that distinction. It's all sort of blended together now.
Lastly, my avatar is a hamster face I drew around 2003.
