US08 Presidential Election Discussion
"Kratos81 said:Just for everyone to know, anyone that studies history will realize that the longest surviving empires of Socialist empires, what you all need to realize is, we need to forget about who votes for who and what your party lines are. We need to reform our country and we need to do something that proves we are still a superpower."jakob187 said:Democrats are for more government control and Republicans are for less."I'm definitely not looking forward to a Democratic-majority country."Why not? I always thought democratics were for the common and the republicans were for the rich. You must be rich."Hope you enjoy being policed to death.I'm also not a fan of socialism."
"It's nearly 5 am in the UK, I had to see the result of the election, I can't say much as an outsider but I am a democrat supporter. I think that tonight we have seen a step forward for society as a whole in terms of our unity as well as a change in the mode of government."Me too mate, plus i won £10 now Obama has become the President or future President. But genuinely i think he just felt or came across as the stronger candidate in this election, not to say he is the best choice but out of what was offered he was by far the best in my eyes. Now if only we could get a better PM in the UK :P
"Plus, I will be banning anyone that is confirmed to dislike Star Wars. "Hi!
Anyway, i'm just glad this is over, i hope the politics thread calm down for the next... i dont know 4 years :D

"HandsomeDead said:Your lack of faith is... disturbing."But I like Star Wars!"Thats enough reason for you to get out."
I must admit, I thought it was terrible the way the Republicans booed Obama during McCain's speech but the complete opposite happened during Obama's speech.
"HandsomeDead said:I'm glad you said it and not me. As an outsider, i'm from the UK, i can't comment too much on policies or who i support but man you'd think the Republicans would have a little respect and lose graciously...."I must admit, I thought it was terrible the way the Republicans booed Obama during McCain's speech but the complete opposite happened during Obama's speech."kinda shows the sort of crowd republicans pull to their rallies"
W00T I never thought this day, seriously, I thought Bush would declare himself emperor and we would follow the way of the Romans
I'm sorry we don't like socialism? Don't worry. You guys will learn your mistake soon enough.
Therefore, I would say what most Americans would say: this was a very close battle.
"W00T I never thought this day, seriously, I thought Bush would declare himself emperor and we would follow the way of the Romans"You mean you thought America would essentially play out the plotline to the Star Wars Prequel films?....if so then fucking awesome sir, i totally call dibs on Obi Wan Kenobi since i'm British!
"I'm sorry we don't like socialism? Don't worry. You guys will learn your mistake soon enough. What a sore loser? K i'll tell u wat you should do, First game consoles have never taken away civil rights, mmmmmmmmkay second, go buy a history book, third get a hair cut this isnt the 80sAs for this whole "landslide" thing: electorals were, yes, a "landslide"...but then again, you don't really get to control the amount of electorals are in each state, now do ya? SOOO...I wouldn't base a landslide off of electorals. And if you go by the pop vote, there was no landslide to that.
Therefore, I would say what most Americans would say: this was a very close battle. And if you say otherwise...then you are no better than someone claiming that PS3 is the best console over 360...or that 360 is the best over PS3...or that Wii is the best over both...or anything else. And a lot of shit that I've seen in this thread makes me regret that some of you are of voting age, because the immaturity you showed in your "celebrations" and "responses" will cause the future of this country to flounder and fail."
"What a sore loser? K i'll tell u wat you should do, First game consoles have never taken away civil rights, mmmmmmmmkay second, go buy a history book, third get a hair cut this isnt the 80s"I dont know if you're being sarcastic or not. But if you aren't you're proving his point.
"oh One more thing......I was about to post that rofl.
bye. the world is wonderful after all"
I voted for Obama and I feel proud of our united states. I'm one of the coveted independent votes and I chose.
I'm old enough to remember watching, with my family, the Roots saga, I was 12. I was born on the same day as Martin Luther King Jr. and knew the understanding of that when I watched the mini-series. In the words of Yoda, "Angry I was.", my mom sent me out of the room many times because of my outrage toward the treatment of other human beings.
My neighbors were treated differently because of their color, I saw them as neighbors and friends. I was ignorant, I was white and I lived in the south, I would never know how it felt. I feel proud of my country for it truly is, a country of opportunity.
We are all human beings living on a gift that we call earth. Let's treat it that way.

The awesome thing is, Obama was a Constitutional law teacher, that means he will follow the Constitution unlike Bush, its an amazing day, the hype of terrorism is fading
"jakob187 said:First, I would say that people like you are the reason that racism still exists on this planet, and it's a fucking shame. How about you look past the fact that the President is black for five seconds? I know that I did when I went to the voting booth. I grew up colorblind to the world, sir. I base my judgments on what values people hold, and the values Obama holds are not what is best for this country in my own eyes."I'm sorry we don't like socialism? Don't worry. BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Democrats write their own laws and pass them. They don't amend shit, sir. Learn your politics.

Lets hope the dems get the magic 60-40 in the senate, it doesn't look like that's going to happen, but if it does it will let Obama go through with his plans(Easily, or, more easily.). They (dems) have the house already, and they have the majority in the senate already. Of course, a 60-40 in the senate and complete ownage of the house is scary, no matter what party has control. It's basically a free ride and they can pass whatever they want. Again, lets hope it works for the better.
One more bit, I thought McCain's concession speech was the best speech he gave all year. That's the John McCain I would of happily voted for, it's a shame the tone of his campaign was such a far cry from the tone in his concession speech. Shame on those who booed Obama, I know people who will refuse to congratulate Obama and his accomplishment, and who would be at those rallies booing. Sad, really.
Peace
"Let's stop bickering and salute our president."First sensible thing that I've heard all day about this. I wasn't necessarily a supporter of Barack Obama, but people need to realize that whoever is in that office, is working hard to make our country a better place. Never have I recalled a president in our history that had the objective of "make the American people as pissed off as possible." That's just not how it works and I understand when someone feels bad because they didn't get their way. If I had a choice, I would want McCain to lead the country, but it seems that wasn't what the rest of the country wanted.
I salute you, Senator Obama.
Also, a funny inspirational picture I made for the occasion.
"I think I am going to an independent voter as well. I don't dedicated myself to one party, america is the land of the free so I choose to be free of all parties because I love parties.I voted for Obama and I feel proud of our united states. I'm one of the coveted independent votes and I chose.
