Was this a thing? I don't use Twitch that much but I don't recall seeing much in the way of exhibitionists.

From what I understand, there are a small handful of female streamers (possibly a couple male) who dress provocatively and set up their stream so that the self-cam is bigger than the actual game. So obviously, if you're doing to that stream, you're probably not going for the wicked-hype gameplay these people are putting out. These people pretty much always ask for donations.

This makes me very, very sad.

Drinking games and shirtless shenanigans (male) were two very important parts of some of my favourite streamers.

Amen.

A very sad day indeed.

I actually think this is written really badly and unprofessionally. These are terms of service, not a chat with your bros. Also twitch seems quite prudish with some of this.

You're being too sensitive.

The #Kappa was a nice touch.

Good. It's about time they cracked down on perverts and pervert appeasers. If it were up to me I'd have outright banned them the moment they paraded their filth on my service.

So Giant Bomb is banned during E3 streams?

Haha! Maybe just Greg Miller, but I think he's an exception to the rule everywhere.

Oh boohoo, what ever will we do now that the "streamers" who only get viewers by having a webcam picture of their cleavage covering ~50% of the stream are going to go away? Woe is us!

This has been coming for a long time. So many streams have girls with giant tits in a top that shows off their cleavage. Also it's only fair this goes both ways so that dudes that stream half naked can't do so anymore.

Also ran into one of these streams one time and the girl was getting up and wiggling/showing her ass of after every donation.

Anyone else find it ironic that when they just started to supervise copyright infringements more closely, they link in their own rules to copyrighted material on a Youtube-channel that probably has no rights to the content?

I notice that a lot of people who absolutely hate when people are forced to dress this way or that way in real life have no problem with businesses enforcing their own dress standards if it results in preventing people using sex appeal to earn money.

Edit: In this thread I discovered the phrase 'pervert appeasers', which is one of the coolest sex-negative phrases I've read. 'Pervert appeasers' is a stone's throw from 'whorish gender traitors'.

I thought you had spelled it wrong (I thought it obviously had to be Wii Dare), and was surprised to see it was also released for the PS3. What a missed branding opportunity!

I'm thinking pasties are a very different thing to Americans? That's not something you want to be trying to wear, especially when people are watching.

@iamaboat: I think it's pretty shitty that James called out only women on this. While it makes me a little sad when people demean themselves for money, ultimately it's their choice to do so and their viewers choice to support it. Not all content is made for me/you, and if I/you don't like it then I/you shouldn't watch it.

Hah, I saw that too, and now I'm wondering if it was the same streamer, or there are several people doing this in various ways.

The one I saw had a world map on the wall behind them, and every time someone donated, they'd put a pin on the world map to show where the donator was from. Nothing wrong there! Except the world map was waist high and the lady made sure to show off and wiggle her butt as much as possible while bending over to place the pin.

Needless to say, there were frequent donators, and not for the game content or quality of commentary that she was streaming.

It's not exact a mystery what her logo's inspiration is.

Amazon owns Twitch. Suits know that now. Suits sometime look into the companies they invest, or are considering investing in. Amazon doesn't want them seeing streams with girls taking donations to (if stripping is considered a sexual act) prostitute themselves or streams with people getting drunk outta their skulls and losing their minds. Amazon is a decent person.

Using 'sex appeal' to farm donations has been a thing for a while.

Yeah, I do understand trying to weed out people trying to prey on viewers with the mentality of some weird, sad person who probably thinks "durrhhh, if I give her 50 bucks maybe she'll show me her tits" or whatever. Then again, if people are dumb enough to have that thought in the back of their head, I'm not sure I feel that much sympathy for them.

Regardless, these rule changes seem reaaaaal dumb to me. I'm not even getting into the baffling "well, we have to make the rules the same - if girls have to wear shirts, so do guys" thing.

Pasties are a food here too, but they're also the term for small stickers designed to hide nipples while leaving the rest of the breast exposed. Occasionally they also have bright, sparkly tassles hanging off them as well for extra attention. They're a trademark of burlesque, where performers often want to go to the very edge of sexualization without actually being nude.

As far as I know, and I could definitely be wrong, nobody actually ever wore pasties on twitch.tv, they're just covering their bases with the language.

@kanerobot: The thing that amazes me about people who give people on twitch money (I'm sure there where good looking guys doing it too) is that they're on the internet, giving people money for a little shot at that persons ass or chest, as if the internet wasn't full of free images and videos of asses and chests and everything else.

I suspect it's more of a brand and legal issue than a matter of prudishness, at least on Twitch's part. I don't have any problem with people using their sex appeal to earn money, but I also don't see any issue with a company like Twitch not wanting to have to navigate the waters bordering on the adult entertainment industry. There are a lot of laws and regulations around that stuff.

I also don't see any hypocrisy in respecting the rules of a business but also wanting to maintain freedom of expression in public places or their own homes.

@scrawnto: I didn't criticize Twitch or their right to do anything. I'm criticizing certain elements of the reaction.

I agree it is a brand issue, because it's certainly not like Twitch earns less money from sexual or flirtatious streamers as opposed to more conservatively dressed people. They just don't want it. Adult entertainment is a little far gone; they already had rules against nudity or pornographic content and I don't remember any controversy over it being applied.

For real, though, it's how this actually gets applied that's going to be controversial. Inevitably a time will come when they close some person's account because they deemed them to be too promiscuously dressed, and the line won't be as simple and easily drawn as habitual rulemakers might believe.

Yeah, I can definitely see some impending drama on, let's say, if a cosplayer started streaming.

There are already streams where the streamers dress up as the characters of the games they play (Video Games Awesome being the more recognised one) where they dress up as, say, Phoenix Wright and Maya for the Phoenix Wright games.

I did a quick search for Video Games Awesome outfits, and saw this one for their Saints Row streams. I can easily see people reporting for their outfits, even though they're not exactly revealing, and are clearly played for comedy value, because they fall under 'inappropriate / sexual clothing./ lingerie'. I don't really see it as something worth banning them from streaming for.

im torn. I think saying basically No tank tops etc. for a site about casually playing games is silly though I have seen an influx of shows that are more about being sexy then it is about the games. It can be a bit of slippery slope especially with video game video monetization becoming bigger and bigger.

the real thing is they are a big company now who doesnt want to have to deal with someone controversy over sexy mindcraft videos so im not surpirsed really

@brodehouse: I guess I see this as Twitch trying to encourage people not to flirt with that line, but I see what you mean. People will push against whatever limits you set for them.
