I personally don't have a problem with American box art because boxes don't really matter to me. They just sit on my shelf and I look at the spines most of the time. That being said the simple reason that the covers are different is because some marketing department figures out that in certain areas of the world people respond to certain things.
I would definitely consider importing the Non USA version of the 3rd one for the cover because the USA one looks like crap. On the other hand, the first two look pretty good.
GOW3 kinda shoots my theory that when US box art is changed it usually has a weapon of some description added. Well it has got the word War in big gold letters, so I guess that's ok.
I actually think the US box art looks better for the first two games. The non-US art for the first game looks awful. While the non-US box art for God of War 3 looks better.
Call me crazy if you will, but I think the US versions are better, with the exception of God of War 3. The original God of War box art is totally a classic. The European version of it looks pretty cheesy and predictable. The back shot of Kratos in God of War 2 is immensely cooler, if you ask me.

I actually brought up that same point when discussing the respective wiki page at one point. Apparently if it's not the whole face, it's half a face.

Okami for the Wii had an IGN watermark from where they took it. Yeah, I do think its that easy.
Australia gets fucked over time to time with release dates and censorship and whatnot, but you can't argue that PAL gets the better end of the stick when it comes to box art. Latest example:

Exactly. And judging by how well a lot of games with 'bad' boxart, including GoW3, still sell in America it's safe to say they're doing they're job. Well...either that or we just don't care enough to let the boxart influence us.
I like the GoW3 US box. Usually western box art looks the same - the protagonist holding a weapon. I like it when they do something different. Red on white is eye-catching, faces are eye-catching, eyes are eye-catching. So, for it's ability to jump out at people from the shelf I think it's pretty good too.
When it comes down to it us hardcore gamers are going to buy the games we want regardless of what the box looks like. The box art is there to catch the eye of someone wandering through Wal-Mart or Gamestop who is just browsing a wall of games. Thus we have to think in that context when judging how awful or awesome we think a game's box art is.

Then where the hell did that other GOW3 artwork come from? There were articles saying that the the Kratos face GOW3 one would not be the official cover, and was only a place holder...
