    A Brave New World 1

New IPGuerrilla is a studio most notably known for Killzone, a heavily first person focused shooter franchise entrenched in a gritty and dark future civil war, which makes their debut into the open world third person genre such a surprise. New IP is always exciting all by itself, and more so when it takes on such a fantastical setting as Horizon: Zero Dawn. A post apocalypse not of rusted browns and arid wastelands, but one of reclaimed nature: of green forests, sprawling jungles and ice cappe...

Truly one of the great Playstation 4 experiences 0

As I have discussed with friends in the past, I do not believe any game deserves a perfect score. There is always something that could have been better, that pulls the player away from the experience. That being said, Horizon Zero Dawn from Guerrilla Games comes about as close as a game can get. With great action, a well realized world, an engaging story, and a host of characters, Horizon Zero Dawn deserves to be on the shelf of every Playstation 4 owner.Horizon Zero Dawn is a third person (also...

An Improbable Game of the Year Contender 0

Even after playing over fifty hours of Horizon: Zero Dawn, I still can’t believe Guerilla Games were capable of making something like this. There was no good reason too, really. The Killzone franchise had its moments, but the only thing anyone remembers about those games is how incredibly brown they were. You could’ve convinced me pretty easily that the creative heads of the studio had never heard of the color wheel, let alone seen any of these hues with their own eyes. But hey, it ...

Don’t be too proud of this technological terror you’ve constructed. 0

With such an intense media profile it would be forgiveable to assume that Aloy, the red-headed protagonist from Guerrilla’s open world adventure, was some sort of political deity. You know the type, the kind whose portrait adorns the walls of every household to remind the citizenry of the devotion they owe to their beneficent goddess. But whilst the girl certainly doesn’t have the egomania bordering on psychosis that affects such demagogues, she is however very much Sony’s own ...

This is what the PS4 was made for 0

Its almost unreal to think that this is the same studio who has spent years making the Killzone franchise but Horizon Zero Dawn couldn't be further from Killzone. I'd be remiss if I didn't say Guerilla knew how to make a beautiful game but Horizon Zero Dawn reinvents that wheel for them. One of the first things that really got me as far as from a technical graphics standpoint is when you see the way the grass blows in the wind but will shift directions as a large robot walks by. The textures...

The full potential is farther in the horizon than you'd hope 0

For their first new product from a new IP since 2004, there's been a lot of buzz around Guerilla Games' Horizon: Zero Dawn since it's reveal almost two years ago. A studio known for making first person shooters moving into third person action, and an RPG at that was an exciting new direction to see explored. Although those RPG elements end up being very light, and more akin to the recent Tomb Raider or Far Cry games, Guerilla has created a lush open world full of inventive and cool looking robot...

The Most Important Game of this Console Generation. 0

I’m going to start this off by stating that I didn’t have the massive hype for Horizon: Zero Dawn that everyone else seemed to have. In fact, when the game was first shown at E3 2015 I remember remarking: “That looks cool, but can Guerilla Games pull that off?” Flash forward two years and yeah, they totally can.Horizon: Zero Dawn is probably as close to a masterpiece as we are going to get in this eighth generation of consoles. And while yes, there have been some really t...

    An acheivement 0

I was pretty iffy on this game before it came out, on the surface it looks very much like a Ubisoft ripoff and why would anyone want to do that?On a very fundamental level this game is what I feared it would be, but this game has just enough special sauce to make it special; sort of like how Blizzard is able to take an established genre and make it better in every way; this game has achieved that for the open world genre and that's equally rare and impressive. The story was probably the biggest s...

Open word fatigue doesn't detract from an overall incredible game. 0

Ever since I first saw this game as part of Sony's 2015 press conference, I have been excited about it. The prospect of robot dinosaurs isn't something you get in every game, and the more I saw of Horizon: Zero Dawn, the more excited I became. It won my "Most likely to be Game of the Year" award 2 years in a row and my award for best gameplay trailer at last year’s E3 and I have been looking forward to this game more than a new Mass Effect, so it's safe to say my expectations are absurdly ...

    Horizon: Zero Dawn 0

After finishing this game, there is still that overwhelming feeling that it went well beyond expectations and did so in great fashion. The story revolves around Aloy, a young women trained as a hunter in order to survive the savage world she lives in. She is a motherless child raised as an outcast by a fellow outcast, Rost. Her desire to understand herself draws her directly into a civilization she knows or cares very little for. As she digs deeper into her own past she finds that there is a grea...

    Horizon Zero Dawn 0

Horizon Zero Dawn is a beautiful game with an incredible sense of detail; however it offers next to nothing new to the open world genre. Its hard for me to describe Horizon Zero Dawn without making a big boring list. If you're bored of the things on this list then you're probably going to have the same time I had with the game. You'll enjoy the beautiful graphics and art design, you'll enjoy the weak spot focused combat for the first 15 hours or so until you figure out how to cheese it, you'll e...

A Good Open World Video Game. 0

At least 15 open world video games come out every year, and I can usually count the ones worth completing on less than 5 fingers. Many open world games don't take advantage of the format properly. They'll have monotonous travel, wasted space, boring combat, and side-missions that merely exist to kill time.Horizon: Zero Dawn has none of these issues. It's one of the good open world games. Since you're living on a continent inhabited by ornery robot dinosaurs, combat is frequent and difficult to a...

    Masterpiece. 0

The creation of Aloy as the main character alone should have warranted more discussion than the gaming community gave Horzion: Zero Dawn all year. A distinctly empowered, non-sexualized female with a personal journey that has nothing to do with a man's influence or attention is something video games absolutely need to take note of. The gaming community is still one where you can't use voice chat in an online match without hearing "cuck" and "bitch" every session; an industry niche enough to let ...

A New Direction For Guerilla Games 0

Horizon Zero Dawn on paper sounds like something I wouldn't play, a huge open world, stealth to action transitional game play, and a tiresome crafting system that seemed like I would be playing the crafting menu more than the game; but surprisingly it all comes together like the gears on the machines you fight against (at least that's how I imagine it). The story is just as impressive as it engrosses the player with mystery and the lore of the world that Aloy, the character you control, o...

    Horizon Zero Dawn 0

It's no secret that there are way too many open-world games on the market right now. It feels like a lot of games are open world just for the sake of being open world when in reality they'd actually benefit from being more linear. But thankfully, Sony's new IP Horizon Zero Dawn does more than most to cut down on the shortcomings and cliches of the genre.Like the lack of fast traveling compared to most open-world games. In any Far Cry, or Assassins Creed game, for example, you can fast travel to...

Horizon wins in every way 0

I was absolutely entranced by Horizon Zero Dawn when I started playing it. I recall seeing a preview at a gaming convention a year or two prior to its release and thinking "that's not for me", not being a huge fan of many games reliant on a shooting mechanic, but when I watched streamers enjoying it the week it finally was released, I knew I'd have to play it as well. I devoured the game once I started, playing every spare minute I had until I'd finished. Then I went back and played more, colle...
