It may get compared to Crackdown, but I had more fun
Listen up all you action/superpower/superhero/open-world fans, this game is for you and its one of the single best reasons to own a PS3, honestly. I do not want to get into a specific detailed review, Brad's review serves that purpose, what I want to reiterate here, is that InFamous is a product of intelligent game design, fun/exciting gameplay, and an interesting story.
The game design and gameplay were well thought out and tie together nicely. Its interesting how your character learns powers by returning power to the city through some of the story missions, almost as if the main character Cole is linked or should I say has become a part of the city's fabric. Side missions are varied and completion clears a % of the area of enemies and locks out the appropriate opposite karma side missions in the area (if your good the evil ones will get locked in an area you clear thru side missions). Consider that with how the code in this software recognizes your characters actions. For example if your good, as your clear areas the city actually heals itself (becomes cleaner or repairs itself) and the people reacte to you based on your Karma alignment. There is alot of intelligent code running in the background on this game to make Empire City feel alive to me.
I have read some nitpicking about the graphics and yes there are some pop-ins, but consider the sheer size of this city and its environments and I am not convinced that the current hardware generation can effectivly run these worlds without pop-in, I think its to much to ask, because I have noticed Crackdown and GTA4 with times of pop-in. Aliasing (jaggies) is the other thing talked about and honestly I have to tell you, there is some but I do not see alot or maybe its minor enough to where I do not notice it much, so its not a real issue to my eyes.
The story reveals itself through comic book style story boards that come to life by them moving around onscreen, its hard to describe, you have to see the cutscenes to understand how they tell the story, they are great.
Lastly, I wanted to mention that the final retail copy is more polished than the demo released a short time ago based one my observations.
In conclusion, I feel InFamous is a must own title and it's a great exclusive for the PS3. AAA game.
