    Another great traditional Kirby game

Kirby returns with another traditional game but this time he’s got a robot. It is another peaceful day on planet Popstar and like usual the residents are being lazy. Yet this day a UFO lands on the planet and starts using the resources to turn everything into a machine. Kirby isn’t going to stand by so he sets off to stop their evil plan. Along the way he gains a mech that lets him solve problems he wouldn’t otherwise be able to handle. The focus on industry visually makes this game look very different than every other game that came before. Where else would you see a Waddle Dee in a car?

Kirby still has his old powers too like his ever trusty umbrella.
Kirby still has his old powers too like his ever trusty umbrella.

Now that gameplay hasn’t changed that much since Triple Deluxe. Kirby has the ability to suck in foes to obtain their power for himself. For example one of the new powers is turning into a doctor who can throws pills at enemies. In that form he can also mix chemicals to produce flame or whack an enemy with a clipboard. I’ve always liked when each form had different attacks depending on if you're dashing or in the air. Makes them a lot more useful than if they only had one move like the older games. Kirby’s mech can also scan enemies to turn into a new form. Like putting giant sub woofers on the side of it if he scans one of the mic enemies. Killing enemies with music is never not satisfying.

I kinda feel bad for these Waddle Dee construction workers. They don't stand a chance against Kirby's flame mech.

Whenever the player isn’t getting a new ability the game is your standard platformer with a focus on combating enemies or solving simple puzzles. That brings up the one thing that has always been mentioned every time this series comes up. It’s a real easy game with very little challenge other than accidentally falling into a bottomless pit. All the puzzles are simple enough that it is obvious what you’ll need to do like using electricity to power up something. So if you're looking for a game that’ll test your skills then this game isn’t for you.

Plenty of modes to play in this game even if most of them are rather short.
Plenty of modes to play in this game even if most of them are rather short.

Since I mentioned them this has quite a few extra modes other than the traditional story mode. 3D rumble is a small 3 stage game where the goal is to defeat every enemy in each arena. Team Kirby Clash is a boss rush mode with RPG mechanics which is neat but is pretty short too. The beefiest extra mode is Meta Knightmare Returns. As you might expect Meta Knight must slash his way through the story mode with new bosses but he doesn’t get a mech sadly. A normal boss rush is also apart of the lineup and the true arena is actually the toughest this game gets.

All of this makes a very compelling package. Even with the mech and the fantastic finale this game didn’t have as much of an impact as the previous one. They were both excellently made but more of the same does get a bit monotonous after a while. Still this is a great Kirby game worth playing. Check it out if you want something else to play on your 3DS.
