It seems nifty, but that's all really. Using it for dialog choice seems immersion breaking for me at least. Speaking one line, only to hear something different from Shepard seems illogical. Much rather use the mouse for that tbh. Squad commands again seemed nifty, doubt I'd use it more than a few times though.
Mass Effect 3

When Earth begins to fall in an ancient cycle of destruction, Commander Shepard must unite the forces of the galaxy to stop the Reapers in the final chapter of the original Mass Effect trilogy.
Mass Effect 3 Will Feature Kinect-Enabled Voice Commands
QFT. So much Kinect stuff coming out yet nothing makes me want to really buy one. Well besides Dance Central 2. :)The little bit of this they demoed during the conference was actually pretty cool. But like every other Kinect-supported game that will come out, it's really more of a novelty than a practical way to play a game.
Actually I had another thought: At the moment Voice recognition isn't available in non-English speaking countries even though you know, we can actually speak English. So how will this work with all these games that do feature voice recognition? Are we getting the short end again? Can MS at least give us the option?

I think the most important part is that Liara and Garrus are returning as squadmates!!!
Or that Mordin is hanging around!
It sounds neat but in all my play-throughs of Mass Effect games, the only thing I ever bothered to direct my team to do is use the right weapon for their skill. Unlike DAO where I have to micro-manage the fight, in ME, I just roll with it and don't tell them anything. They're surprisingly competent. Now, I admit, I only play on defaut/normal.

Isn't Mark Meer just the face-model for male Shep, and not a voice actor?
I may be wrong though..
No he is the voice of male shep, some European model is the face of male shepard
I think the commanding stuff is actually pretty good, since it allows you to issue commands without pausing the game. That specific use of voice recognition may actually enhance immersion.

Yeah, I fixed that up after I said it. I got Mark Meer and Mark Vandaloo mixed up.
This seems really...pointless, and kind of a sad attempt of integrating Kinect support into a game that really doesn't need it.
I had to get a new xbox two weeks ago since my launch one was on it's last legs. I just got a kinect bundle since there was a deal on Amazon. I'm still in the honeymoon phase with Kinect, but I'm enjoying it, and the voice commands for battles could be nice. A few times in ME2, it was getting a tad frustrating to pause so often during heavy fire fights. The voice commands could be helpful.
"I imagine if you're a man playing as female Shepard, or vice versa, that's gonna be a little awkward."
get your girlfriend to sit beside you and yell at the screen!
*problem solved*
I've gotta say...this is pointless really, gimme a mic and the ability to use these commands without kinect, and I'd be happy, otherwise, this is just microsoft trying to will kinect into life because they failed to get proper support for it. Nintendo has seen that the motion control ship is sinking, and are going back to basics. Microsoft need to somehow break even, but won't be able to at this rate. They can't shoehorn it into triple A titles, they can't get 3rd party support that isn't a pathetic cash-in. Lets just kill kinect off like the virtual boy, and then move on, back to old fashioned games that don't have good ideas that cost a player 150 quid...Now as for the rest of mass effect...at least they brought back grenades, and it does look interesting, but the whole Omni-tool knife thing? No thank you, its a goddamn hologram.
@YukoAsho: Yes it would have worked with a headset but why would they do that when they can use the Kinect? It benefits MS by getting more Kinect support and benefits Bioware by having the Kinect name on the box.
It benefits MS, for sure... but Bioware would benefit more if they include the feature in PC and PS3 by not artificially restrict themselves with Kinect.
*Rant mode*
Can I just say that I totally called this happening when Kinect first came out. And what did those douches on the bioware forums say when I suggested this? They called me fucking stupid. Well whose laughing now assholes?
*Rant mode*
Anyways, It looks pretty neat. I play Mass Effect on the PC so this doesn't really mean that much to me, but if more companies start doing things like this I may have to go buy a Kinect.

Its a shame you couldnt' pursuade anyone to stake actual cash money on it, because it was always a pretty safe bet this'd happen :-)
There was a Q&A with one of the devs and he said the reason it's Kinect only is because they get all the voice processing tech for free from Microsoft. If they supported normal microphones they would have to do all that themselves. As someone who will never own a Kinect I'm glad they're spending as little time as possible on such a gimmick feature.
